00:02Another week, another close call for an airport already under the microscope.
00:08Just after 8 o'clock on Tuesday morning, a Qantas flight from the Gold Coast was heading west on the
00:14taxiway.
00:15At the same time, another Qantas flight headed for Melbourne had been given the all-clear to turn onto the
00:21same path.
00:22An incident only avoided after the crew on the Melbourne-bound plane saw the other and stopped.
00:28The Australian Transport and Safety Bureau didn't deem the incident as serious, saying there was no immediate risk of collision.
00:36But today confirmed they'll investigate any conflicting instructions to flight crews.
00:41There's no blame on any individual, but the system itself is not working.
00:45And the system that's supporting the pilots doing their job is not working as well as it should be.
00:51A spokesperson for Qantas said its aircraft was cleared to proceed following instructions from Air Traffic Control and will support
00:59the investigation.
01:00It comes after three other incidents in just over three weeks, two of which were on the same day.
01:07Including when this Qatar Airways flight narrowly avoided impact with a Jetstar craft being pulled by a tug as staff
01:15shortages plagued the airport.
01:17We're interested in how do we make sure that the right staff, the right numbers, are in the control towers
01:24at all times.
01:25The cornerstone of Australia's aviation system is just how safe it is.
01:30And we want to keep it that way.
