00:11is investigating reports of a wild elephant roaming around Kampung Pengkalan Gelugor
00:17and Kampung Jaram in Kualaneros on Friday.
00:20State Perhilitan Director Dennis Tenchun-Yung said investigations found that the animal
00:26had damaged residents' crops, including banana and sugarcane plants.
00:31The elephant was also seen roaming around the villages, raising concerns for the safety of residents.
00:39Dennis advised the public not to enter the affected area or approach the elephant to avoid any untoward incidents.
00:47Residents have also been warned not to follow the animal's tracks,
00:52throw objects at it, or take any action that could provoke it.
00:56They are urged to give way if the elephant crosses their path and allow Perhilitan space
01:01to carry out control and translocation operations when conditions are suitable.
01:06Dennis said the nearest forest reserve to the area is the Balara Forest Reserve in Kualaneros.
01:13However, there have been no previous records of elephant sightings in the area.
01:17Police and other security agencies have been informed and are assisting with traffic control
01:24and monitoring the movement of residents.
