00:18Hi, I'm John and welcome to 9 to 12. Singapore has over 380 km of cycling paths and that number
00:26is still growing. The idea? To connect people to nature, parks and green spaces. But hidden
00:32along the way are stories from Singapore's past and how we transformed over the years.
00:37Today, I'm setting off to see what I can discover.
00:53You wouldn't expect to find an old railway station in the middle of a cycling route. But this
00:58used to be part of the railway connecting Singapore and Malaysia. Today, it's part of the Rail
01:04Corridor, a recreational path connecting people to a piece of Singapore's history.
01:11Did you know, due to its proximity to the old Singapore Turf Club, horses from all over
01:16Malaysia would disembark here before going to the racecourse. Imagine getting off the train
01:20and seeing a horse. One thing I'm starting to realize, these trails don't just connect parks.
01:29They can also lead you to places you might not have visited otherwise. So we're right here.
01:43Is that a dinosaur? One minute I'm learning about railway history and the next I'm riding past dinosaurs.
01:53This is Changi Jurassic Mile, a dinosaur themed trail located along the Changi Airport connector.
01:59This path connects Changi Airport to East Coast Park and has 20 different prehistoric creatures
02:05in a one-kilometer stretch. Including this guy, the Parasaur Lophis, which is almost 5 meters
02:10tall and 2,800 kilograms. There's more to find out. Let's go find them.
02:33Okay, this might be one of the nicest stretches I've seen so far. You've got the water, the greenery.
02:40So what's so special about this place?
02:50Wait, what? Did you know Loringhalu's wetland was transformed from a landfill into a wetland habitat?
02:58Nearly half of Singapore's garbage was stored right here. Now that's one way to take out the trash.
03:10Before today, I thought these green paths were just a place to cycle or go for a run.
03:14But I've come to realize they're actually full of stories and there's plenty more waiting to be discovered.
03:19Maybe the best way to explore Singapore is not by having a destination, but by picking a path and seeing
03:24where it leads you.
03:28Today I learned about the different trails connecting some of Singapore's most unexpected stories.
03:33So here's my question. Which stop would you visit first? The old railway station, the dinosaurs, or the wetland?
03:40That's all for 9 to 12. I'm John, signing off.
03:55Ghostbusters.
03:58You're welcome.
