00:38So the heat effect is increasing as climate change increases.
00:42So we need to save as much green space as possible.

00:45We need a master plan before you bit by bit add things to a park with no plan.
00:51I'm here because I don't think that the skate park is suited for this space.
00:55I think the noise would reverberate around all the high rise buildings that are getting built around the park.
01:01I think the skate park would be better located down at Stewart Park or somewhere near South Beach,
01:07which is Wollongong Beach.
01:08This space could be used in a much better way by having a cafe, coffee shop,
01:15an annex of the botanical gardens to bring the fountain that used to be where Gateway Shopping Centre is,
01:21which is the Five Islands fountain, back over here and to get it working again
01:29because it's currently sitting in the botanical gardens not working.
01:32We'd like to see a proper vision developed for the park.
01:37The park was originally called the rest park and it's a park that is a place of respite, a place
01:44of relaxation,
01:46a place where people can get away from the concrete jungle that's surrounding us,
01:51a place where they can escape the heat of the city in the summertime.
01:56And so we're all for a skate park. We're all for skating.
02:02We have no problem with skaters or skateboarding, but this is a civic park
02:07and a large 1,000 ton concrete structure doesn't fit the function of this park.
02:15It'd be like putting a gymnasium in your kitchen because your kitchen's only used three times a day.
