01:04The 52 Super Series sits at the very pinnacle of Grand Prix monohull sailing.
01:08It's the circuit favored by the great champions of the sport,
01:12America's Cup winners, Olympic medalists, round-the-world race winners.
01:17The 52 Super Series represents the highest quality and the highest level of monohull racing in the world.
01:24The 52 Super Series is the place that you go to find out if you're good enough.
01:29Top sailors love the super-close racing, beautiful venues, and maybe most of all, they love the TP52.
01:37The boats are beautiful and perfectly maintained.
01:40The sailors here are guys that I've been looking up to my whole life,
01:43and to be able to come here and race against them is such a treat.
01:46A dream come true, really.
01:49It's a light, fast Grand Prix monohull, which requires great skill to achieve the final critical small percentages that make
01:58a winning difference.
02:00The 52 Super Series is more popular than ever.
02:03It started back in Barcelona in 2012 with just four boats.
02:07There were a couple of years there early on where we didn't have a lot of boats,
02:10and we were looking for people that wanted to come and join in,
02:13and, you know, now it's like, oh my God, there's so many boats.
02:17This is really great.
02:18Now, the 15th year of competition sees a record-sized fleet of 16 teams that will compete from 11 different
02:26nations,
02:27the biggest ever fleet.
02:29You can gain big or you can lose big, and if it doesn't work for you, boy, you're in last
02:33in a second.
03:032026 looks more open than ever.
03:06The team which has won most regattas and championships over the last 18 years has now stopped,
03:12but it lives on in different colours of a new Dutch owner.
03:15Terry is there, his team is there, his boat is there, and they're still sailing very well,
03:21so it's going to be a long fight.
03:26Over the season, there will be up to 50 races at five regattas between May and October.
03:32We have 50 races all year long, five different venues, 14, 15, 16 boats at some of the events.
03:39Every race counts. There's no drops. You've got to get it done every day.
03:47This year, there are not one, not two, but three new teams ready to take up the ultimate challenge
03:53to test themselves at the very highest level.
03:56I think the highlights of this season is the number of boats.
04:00The number of boats makes a huge difference on our tactical decisions.
04:05Every boat you add to the fleet, it makes things more interesting.
04:24The 2026 52 Super Series opens in Puerto Portals.
04:28It's a super popular venue in Mallorca, a lifestyle venue of choice.
04:33It's chic, it's fashionable, it's upscale, and it's quite discreet.
04:38It has long since become one of the 52 Super Series' most popular destinations.
04:46The Bay of Palma usually offers great, reliable sea breezes in the summer,
04:51but this is the first time the circuit's opened here in the springtime.
04:55That means more complicated, more complex winds, which are more difficult to understand,
05:00but probably a bigger range of winds over the course of the regatta.
05:06The level goes up and up every year.
05:09The TP52 is designed to a box rule, so the designers and teams can make their own specific choices.
05:16But by now, the boats are so very, very similar.
05:19It's a game where the pursuit of marginal gains, meters here and there on the race course,
05:24can be the result of millimeters or centimeters of adjustments.
05:30The boats have developed in becoming more simple.
05:33The racing is so tight, they cannot make a mistake.
05:36So every maneuver is personalized or improved to be accurate.
05:41The fight for millimeters that you're in, and the differences between first and tenth are one or two meters.
05:48You know, I think that type of racing, that bow to stern racing, is just incredible.
05:55Puerto Martins is buzzing with anticipation.
05:58Teams arrive in Mallorca, having optimized their boats through the winter,
06:03fine-tuning their machines, the hardware, and polishing up the teamwork on the water
06:08with spring training sessions in Palma and Valencia.
06:18People is, for me, most important than technology, because technology itself doesn't make a difference.
06:25With the right people, you can get the right technology, and then it's a win-win.
06:31Every team, every sailor knows the 2026 title is there for the taking.
06:36It's up for grabs.
06:37There's no favorite this time.
06:39Every meter matters, every point.
06:41It's precious.
06:44New keels across the fleet, everybody's spent a good bit of time and money in moding their boat.
06:50And for me, it's around acceleration, finding your lane and getting that keel to grip off the line.
06:55The skinnier cord keels, they often have high top-end speeds, but locking the boat in off the line.
07:01So that is a key point of difference across the fleet.
07:05The keel has been optimized for the behavior they want in the boat.
07:10You know, different skippers on different knowledges.
07:13They have different type of keels.
07:17of the boat in the boat.
07:18Arriving in Mallorca in the spring, it may seem strange to find athletes getting into a sauna.
07:43Merci beaucoup.
07:44Hello, mate.
07:45How are you?
07:46Good morning.
08:0885,8.
08:10Merci.
08:10Je me suis dit, je me suis dit, je me suis dit, je me suis dit.
08:40Ciao !

11:12It's really fun to be with other people who enjoy that same motivation.
11:17How can we do better tomorrow than we did today?
11:19And when you keep asking that question, you do better.
11:24It's the first time in the history of the circuit a new owner has come in with ambitions of a
11:29real fast track to success,
11:31starting with so little sailing experience.
11:34You are rookies in the series, right?
11:36So lots of us are new for the series.
11:38We haven't been there before.
11:39But even though we are in that position, expectations are still high.
11:43Looking back in October on this, I want to see us at least on the first half in the league.
11:55Peter Herrema shares exactly the same dream, though, and he could not be more different to Sundberg.
12:03He's a 74-year-old Dutch businessman, a lifelong sailor who won in the Dragon Kill Boat class,
12:09In his 60s, he raced solo, non-stop, around the world in the Vendee Globe, the ultimate round-the-world
12:15race.
12:16Peter's a legend in our sport.
12:18For anybody that doesn't appreciate sailing around the world by yourself, I mean, this guy is, he is unbelievably determined.
12:27Now in his 70s, he wants to compete in the world's leading Grand Prix in one-hole circuit, and he's
12:33aiming for success.
12:35I've sailed many classes, but I believe that the TP52 at this moment in time is sort of the highest
12:44possibility in non-foiling boats.
12:47I think the level is extremely high, and that is a big challenge.
12:53It's the first time a new owner has bought a winning boat, the equipment, the coaching team, and retained most
13:01of the sailors from the team,
13:02including Terry Hutchison, one of the most successful sailors on the circuit.
13:08It was very clear to me that buying a boat and then setting up a team and setting up the
13:14whole thing around it would take me too much time.
13:18Suddenly the message came through that maybe the American Magic Boat was for sale.
13:22So that's what I did, and that means that I can have a better start in the class than if
13:28I had to build it up all myself.
13:37He's doing a very good job, though, at stepping into something that's incredibly complicated, incredibly competitive,
13:43and he has thrown himself to the wolves, and our job is to protect them from those wolves
13:48and make sure that we do the best job that we possibly can at being successful on the race course.
13:53I expect a lot from it, but I expect to be very humble for the first season because the competition
14:03is superb.
14:13The third new team is sharing the same dream of racing in the 52 Superseries is Brazilian Caballo Loco,
14:20led by co-owners Mauro de Torre and Fabio Coutrelli.
14:25We came here to Palma to race Copa del Rey, and one of the days they said,
14:30oh, let's go to Porto Portaos, there's one boat there, and let's go there to see the boats.
14:36And when we arrived here, Formula One, it's a fantastic boat, beautiful, everything perfect,
14:43a lot of boats over there, and we look at that and we get very excited and say,
14:47oh, this would be fantastic, and they say, oh, Fenix is for sale, and I say, okay, let's go for
14:54that.
15:02They admit the idea is just a little bit crazy, they're a little bit mad,
15:06but they're very, very accomplished sailors from South America.
15:10They both share the same dream to go racing in a TP52 at the highest level in the world.
15:15Mauro is more crazy than I am, so he's completely crazy, and Mauro went after the Fenix,
15:22to negotiate the whole thing, and here we are, we are now in the Super Series.
15:27It's a dream come true.
15:31The first thing to achieve your target is to want, you have to want, and I want to stay here.
15:38And to stay here with you, with all this party, fantastic organization, it's a dream.
15:45For me it's a dream, and now the dream is coming.
15:48All the sailors in Brazil follow the 52 Super Series.
15:52It is the top circuit for anything that doesn't fly.
16:02SLED have already won the circuit and the Worlds in 2021, and last year were runners-up.
16:09We are second last year, very happy with the season last year.
16:13Especially winning the last event left us with a very good sense of we can do it.
16:20This year we are really looking forward to win a few events and try to get up there.
16:26On the podium, not only that.
16:28Anybody can win races, and it's about being consistent.
16:32So we'd love to win the season, but it's a long way away.
16:34We've got 50 races, so we've got a long way to go.
16:39Gladiator from Britain won the world title in 2023.
16:43The helmsman Guillermo Parada has won the circuit four times.
16:47And new tactician Victor Diaz de Leon has won it once.
16:51It's a marathon, not a sprint.
16:53It's important that you get better throughout the season.
16:55So chemistry, consistency and improvement throughout the season are key in order to succeed at the end.
17:03Three times world champions, the 2023 circuit champions, Platoon Aviation,
17:08had a very mixed season last year with lots of changes on board.
17:12But the big question is, who is going to win the title in 2026?
17:24Welcome to day one here in Mallorca.
17:27This is the biggest fleet the 52 Super Series has ever seen.
17:31It's Thailand's Whitcraft family, underdogs on Vayu, who have the best first day.
17:36Vayu crosses the line first.
17:38The team from Thailand wins race number one.
17:41The Brazilian debutants, Caballo Loco, very quickly found just how tough it's going to be in this fleet.
17:47Very nervous. I was not nervous yesterday, but today I was.
17:53To us, it's a starter. So we are the beginners.
17:56For Peter Herrema and the No Way Back team, it's a solid opening with a third and an eighth on
18:02day one.
18:02We didn't know what to expect, but I think we're punching above our weight and that's always a good feeling.
18:08In just a second of a race on the circuit, it's a win for the rookie Joakim Sundberg steering Trinity
18:15Racing.
18:16Trinity Racing wins race two by just millimeters ahead of Provenza. Great race by the Swedish team.
18:23It was an outcome I necessarily didn't expect. My heart rate was really high.
18:29So yeah, super happy with the day. It's been amazing.
18:32But after that day one race victory next day, Trinity bumped back to earth.
18:37Trinity Racing are out of race three. Technical problems on the brand new boat.
18:44A main halyard problem means they have to sit out the race.
18:48We've had a couple of self-inflicted issues today that made a mistake with our main halyard at the
18:55beginning of the day and then had to get it redone to fix and we didn't make the first race.
19:04By the middle of the week there's a reminder that winning events, winning regattas is about dealing
19:09with the lows and the highs. All too often after a great day it's followed by a big slum.
19:15Alkido takes the bullet. Look at them celebrating. Alkido Vitamina hit the highest of highs with a
19:22perfect scoreline. Two wins on day two are sharply followed though by a 20 points day,
19:27which includes a last place. Double champions, world and circuit winners Sled show their class,
19:34staying consistent. Here comes Sled. That's another big finish.
19:39I'm very, very impressed with how the team is managing the pressure and super happy with how
19:45things are going. It works really well because I think we all bring different perspectives to the
19:51racing, you know, emotionally. We've got Murray who's very flatline and then we've got Francesco
19:57who's very up and down and I think, you know, it's a very good mix because when we're down we
20:03get picked
20:04up but when we're on a high we we keep it down. So I think it's a really cool mix.
20:10Prevetsa win race seven, the one and only race of Friday, launching themselves into the big finale
20:16of the last day with a three points lead. That's the first bullet for Guarada as tactician. Right now
20:22we are on the up but we know how quickly things can change so we are pretty happy at the
20:27moment but
20:28really fit on the ground that we know this is not real so to say.
20:34At the same time, Sled have a real shocker. Pushing the risk factor just too hard, they get not one
20:40but two penalties in the same race from the umpires and get their worst score of the event,
20:46a 13th in the 14 boat fleet.
20:48We knew we were going to have a bad one at some stage and every boat does but when you
20:53get on a
20:54bit of a roll, you know, and we look at what we've left behind on the racetrack, we know that
20:58we're confident with what we've got at the moment.
21:05The final day, the Saturday showdown, the wind is blowing from the shore. Now that makes it unsettled,
21:11really the teams have to pick a side given how they expect the wind to vary as they get closer
21:16to the
21:17shore and to the top mark.
21:21Prevetza get it wrong in the first upwind of the first race of the day but recovered back to seventh
21:26but meantime Sled our dominant winning to lead the regatta into the final race, the big showdown.
21:34Sled almost don't make it to the start line of the last race, their main halyard fails.
21:39The Bowman has to go up to the top of the mast and manages to skew it with only two
21:43minutes before
21:44the start. But the team keep their cool as the French crew on Patprec lead their compatriots
21:51teasing machine through the finish line. Sled win the first event of 2026.
21:55Crossing the line in third, it's Sled. Congratulations to the team. Fantastic job.
22:04It's an amazing victory. We are so happy because it was a team win. It was not just the play
22:12from one
22:12player. Our Bowman Ivan today is the player of the day. He fixed our problem between the two races.
22:23The main halyard came undone and we had to fix it quite quickly and we only had a few minutes
22:28so
22:29I went up and I was just in time to make the start. Like I think we had one and
22:32a half minute,
22:33two minutes. Two minutes. Two minutes. Two minutes. Two minutes. Hi Ivan.
22:40Platoon Aviation cross in fourth to get second overall. A solid start for the three times world champions.
22:46Potentially a little bit less red flags would be better, but I'm pretty happy.
22:52Peter Herrema and his no way back team finished third overall. A great beginning for the Dutch newcomer to
22:58the circuit. First big event. Old guy but a rookie. How far up can you get? We're super happy. I'm
23:05super
23:06happy. For Swedish newcomer Joachim Sundberg and his Trinity racing team, Puerto Partals does prove to
23:12be something of a baptism of fire. I mean first day the race tube came out as the winner and
23:19we also had
23:1915 points in one race and you know the whole week has been amazing and we learned a lot. Caballo
23:27Loco,
23:27the Brazilians learn a lot but they just love it. Our first regatta was fantastic. I hope to have
23:34a lot of good times again like this one. So the final standings after nine races at Puerto
23:42Pertal's 52 Super Series Sailing Week. Winners are Sled on 42 points, second are Platoon Aviation on 51 points
23:50and third no way back on 52.
24:10It's a great feeling to come away from the first event with a win. It's super tough obviously because
24:15of the extra boats but we had a few hiccups along the way but yeah nice to finish on the
24:20podium again.
24:25So it's Sled who won the final regatta of 2025 and have stuck very much with the winning formula
24:31who opened 2026 with victory in Majorca. But as 2021's double champions Sled know,
24:39winning the circuit title is all about the ultimate consistency over the whole season.
24:45That's only nine races sailed so far. There could be up to 40 more races to come. The next challenge
24:50on the horizon is the Rolex TP52 World Championship in Porto Cervo in Sardinia.
25:20So that's what we're talking about. Let's take a look at dikkatlang
25:32.
25:32It's a good dove.
