00:00The DJI Osmo Pocket 4P marks a big moment in DJI's hugely popular series of pocket
00:05vlogging cameras, even if Insta360 stole its thunder with the surprise Luna Ultra.
00:10What's the big deal? Well, it's the first pocket with dual lenses, and in use it really
00:15does feel like twice the camera of the already brilliant single lens Pocket 4.
00:20They are largely identical 4K gimbal cameras with easy horizontal and vertical video, but
00:25the P version adds a versatile 3x telephoto camera to the 1x ultrawide.
00:30DJI has also refined the ultrawide's 1 inch sensor, equipping with real time supercharged
00:36HDR-like tech for a new D-Log2 colour profile with greater dynamic range than DJI's regular
00:42D-Log. I'll say it straight, now that I've tried the Pocket 4P, it'll be hard for me to
00:47return to a single lens model like the Pocket 4.
00:49That additional 3x telephoto camera unleashes a wide variety of shots to complement the highly
00:55capable, ultrawide main camera. On-the-go sequences with DJI's superb subject tracking
01:00and play can be particularly dynamic. It really is like having two cameras in one tiny device
01:05with Pro Audio tools at your disposal too.
01:08That being said, there is an inevitable but unfortunate design compromise. Twin lenses make
01:13for a bulkier camera unit and top-heavy design, with inexplicably no protective housing currently
01:18available. And with prices starting at £529 and no US availability, it also costs more
01:25than the Pocket 4. DJI also faces its first real rival in this video camera space, the
01:30Insta360 Luna Pro and Luna Ultra. For me, the first generation Luna Ultra is a compelling
01:35alternative with its 8K video and detachable module and mic, plus neat accessories such as
01:41the POV head tracker. However, I can also tell that the Pocket 4 is a fourth generation product,
01:46it feels more polished overall. The Pocket 4 has neat accessories of its own too, such as the
01:51magnetic fill light and remote module. Ultimately, having tested every major release since the
01:56Pocket 3, DJI's Dual Lens Pocket 4 is now my favourite compact vlogging camera. You get
02:01a lot of camera for your money, and with the new portrait lens, the series feels properly
02:05up to speed with the latest smartphones. I really can see myself using this camera a lot.
