The US's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the first orexin-targeting drug which could be a game changer in the world of medicine.

00:00There has been a massive gold rush behind this drug.

00:03So Eli Lilly, who are famous kind of the world over now for their GLP-1,

00:08as we know it, they've spent $700 million acquiring Sintessa Pharmaceuticals,

00:15who have their own orexin candidate drug.

00:18So there's a lot of backing, and it's kind of seen as akin to the amount of money

00:22that went into the GLP-1s in 2005 to 2015,

00:26because they see it as being something that could potentially be very useful

00:32for other types of conditions.

00:35Much in the same way that a Zempic is seen now as being a bit of a wonder drug

00:39when it comes to other conditions,

00:41it is thought that these orexin drugs could be used to treat things like sleep problems,

00:48depression, addiction, ADHD, obesity, and just general motivation,

00:54which is very alluring for me, I have to say.
