A fast-moving wildfire near Reno, Nevada, has exploded across more than 13,000 acres, putting thousands of residents on alert. The Hawk Fire began Saturday and has been linked to human activity, while strong winds, dry vegetation and low humidity helped the flames spread rapidly.
Around 42,000 people have faced evacuation orders as the fire moved toward residential areas, with roughly 1,000 homes considered at risk. Officials have also warned residents in nearby neighborhoods to be prepared to leave if conditions worsen.
Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency in Washoe County as firefighters from local, state and federal agencies worked to slow the blaze. About 400 personnel were involved in firefighting operations, supported by helicopters and other aircraft.
Authorities say the situation remains highly unpredictable, urging residents under evacuation orders to leave immediately and follow official instructions. Fire crews are continuing efforts to protect homes, infrastructure and lives as the wildfire remains uncontained.
