00:14I want to go more modern in my picks.
00:15And I need to start with Mad Max, Fuey Road.
00:18I know a little bit older than the other picks that I'm going to get to.
00:21But that is my quintessential action movie.
00:23I remember that dropping kind of out of nowhere.
00:26Me and all my pals going to the cinema.
00:28All of us having a good time.
00:30Whether or not you knew the Mad Max franchise or not.
00:33Practical effects.
00:34A lovely orange and blue visual landscape.
00:39Just absolute summer magic.
00:42And a great representation of what it's like to grow up in County Durham as well.
00:44I think that's also important to mention there.

00:47It might as well be a biopic.
00:48I'm going to say Independence Day.
00:50I think Independence Day is not only the ultimate summer movie blockbuster.
00:53I think it's the ultimate 90s movie in general.
00:56You've got Will Smith approaching the zenith of his stardom.
00:59You've got Jeff Goldblum.
01:00You've got so many guys in that movie.
01:02It's a great all-time all-around.
01:03And was my most worn-out VHS growing up alongside The Phantom Menace.
01:08So yeah, Independence Day.
01:09So summery.
01:10So perfect.
01:11We don't make enough guys like Roland Emmerich anymore.
01:14An all-time great dudes rock movie.
01:16My second one though is a recent one and it's Barbie.
01:19The Barbenheimer event for lack of a better term was just peak summer blockbuster to me.
01:25We've gotten so far away from movies feeling like events in recent memory.
01:29And to me after the pandemic that was just a great cinema is back moment.
01:34Everyone was going out to see that film.
01:35It's not my favorite in terms of quality.
01:38But in terms of vibe.
01:39In terms of just hanging out with everyone.
01:41And everyone having a great time.
01:42And enjoying a piece of summer blockbuster cinema.
01:46I don't think I can beat that in recent memory.

01:49I'm going to go back to the scene of the crime of the 90s though.
01:51And it's another Will Smith movie.
01:52Because I think the 90s mastered the summer blockbuster.
01:54And I'm going to talk about Men in Black.
01:56Because Oh My God Men in Black I do think is a perfect movie.
02:00I do think it is probably the best movie of 1997 as well.
