00:58So can you tell me why you think prostitution is a good theme for Kanta's YouTube
01:04According to what I see in Uganda
01:06The world needs to see what is happening in Africa
01:09And this is one of the social issues we have here in Uganda
01:14That the mainstream does not take a lot of time to share
01:17People can share a lot but a few of them come up to share about prostitution
01:23Is a prostitution common for a way of life among poor women?
01:27um prostitution is one of what we call underground businesses in Uganda and Africa at large
01:33It is not that popular on the main market
01:36The people that do it always handle do it underground
01:39Because first it is illegal it is looked at as something not good by the community by the society
01:46So it is a business that is popular underground
01:49Who can we have an interview with today?
01:51We have someone that we can interview is a friend and she's a former prostitute
01:58And she has practiced in this business formally and her life has changed right now
02:03And she's moving on with her personal life
02:06So she is willing to cooperate with us right?

03:09もともと協力してくれる予定だった方の取材をですね諦

03:13他にもね何人か協力をしてくれそうな知人がいるということで

03:40ちょっとね大変なんですけれども
03:41次の協力をしてくれる方が到着するのを待ちたいと思います

04:48ウガンダで売春に従事する女性の正確な数は分か
04:51っていませんが
04:52数万人規模と考えられています
04:54特に首都カンパラではナイトクラブやバーの周辺
04:57スラム街などで働く女性が多く
04:59料金は場所や相手によって異なりますが
05:021回あたり数十円から数百円程度
05:05貧困層が多い地域では
05:071回あたり約80円で行為が行われているとも言わ
05:11れています
05:11ウガンダでは売春は違法ですが
05:14取り締まりは厳しくなく
05:15警察に賄賂を払って見逃してもらうケースも少なく
05:19ありません
05:19では彼女たちはなぜこの道を選ばざるを得なかったのか
05:23実際に話を聞いてみたいと思います

05:28Aaaat that time my dad had no money to send me back to school
05:31because we needed money to treat my mom, she was sick
05:35I decided to be home so that my father can treat my mom
05:38That's why also me I went into other things like prostitution
05:42to get money so that I can help at home
05:45Did you have other options?
05:47No
05:47Why?
05:48I was stuck by then
05:50because we were passing in a difficult situation
05:52when we need to help one another i decided to go so that even make and earn some little money
05:58i help
05:59at home so you needed urgent money treat my mom i see somewhere not not very good some had bad
06:08intentions because some had come to whenever they come they would force you to do something
06:14without paying you it was difficult by that time how did you get customers around here or other
06:22areas no they it was not around here it was in kampala away from here at home you talk
06:28to a man
06:29you ask them or they ask you they would find us on the road standing they knew what we are
06:35doing
06:35and they knew what we wanted that but some of them they would come showing they are going to give
06:40you
06:40money but after using you they don't pay the yugawe the money i was getting it was
06:46not very much
06:47because even the money which i was getting from the customers was not it was not enough to treat my
06:53mom how much could you earn from one customer for one time 10k 10 000 for one time yes
06:59what was the
07:00most difficult part of the job the difficult one was like someone coming to you you talk about the
07:07amount after doing what you've done he gives you another amount which you never asked for and which
07:12was less did you experience any violence frightening thing from customers some of them were forcing
07:20the other one comes showing he's going to pay you catches you very badly then he runs away without
07:25paying after you find customer on the street when you do that where did you shift the customers would
07:33come to the street to pick us he takes you where he feels comfortable to any hotel he pays the
07:39hotel then
07:40after pays you also you would go if it's a night he pays for the night if it was
07:45just for like minutes
07:47then he also he pays for minutes you said that you could earn 10k for one time but did
07:53that depend
07:54on the negotiation or every time 10k every customer it was 10k but you could find some customers
08:01when
08:02even they can't afford that 10k he takes you showing you pay you the 10k but after
08:07getting what he wanted
08:08he gives you like 5k 3k our customers especially ugandan people or sometimes mzungu the
08:16black maybe
08:17like ugandan people or maybe african as african black why did you stop this job
08:24i left that job that day
08:25when i found myself pregnant i decided to quit the job so that i go back home i relax to
08:32wait for my baby to
08:33give birth to my baby you don't know you became pregnant but you don't know who is i
08:39don't know
08:39that the person who is responsible but but it's maybe customer some customer yes what do you do now
08:46after you left prostitution the work i do now so that i can help myself and the kids i
08:52just go and help
08:53some people in some housework like washing clothes cleaning homes so that i can earn some money for my
09:00kids and
09:01myself how much can you earn from the housekeeper 15 000 shillings for one day 15 000
09:08yes which job do
09:09you feel better like prostitution or housekeeper housekeeping why because they give me my freedom
09:15and they talk to me very well if you could choose what kind of job would you like to do
09:21in your future
09:22i would like to own a small shop when it's for myself selling things like food many things for
09:29domestic use
09:30i heard from bena that you worked in dubai what did you do in dubai in dub
09:35ai i was a housekeeper
09:36but at first my boss was good the lady but later the husband arrived he used to come when we
09:42are
09:42cleaning the house he put some dangerous chemicals in water for us so those chemicals used to get to be
09:48very very very harm to us so i reached a time i saw when my i'm not in a
09:54good condition i decided to come
09:56back because even my hands were burnt in the palms because of those dangerous chemicals why did he give
10:03that dangerous chemical to you he never wanted us the black ones and told the wife why did you hire
10:09the black to work for me the man never wanted the black people in his family it was kind of
10:15racial
10:15discrimination i see how was the income when you were working in dubai it was not very very good
10:24because i was getting 700 ugandan shillings that's 700 you had to buy some things for
10:31yourself to use
10:32the price in the buys i see more expensive than uganda

10:47ついてもあの見せてもらえるということでお家の中とかちょっとね見させて

10:52思いますここは先ほど協力してくれた方のですねキッチンとそれ
10:56からガレージみたいですね can you explain what she have like
11:01she she dries the family's clothes here so this is a hanging place line where the hang clothes after
11:08washing
11:08so they cook from there oh there this is kitchen so they they are cooking here what are they cooking
11:16right now lunch looks like uh oh is it possible to see inside it's hot
11:22oh oh maybe matoke okay matoke i see she says she loves matoke yeah
11:30matoke and meat
11:31every every woman in uganda loves matoke
11:37okay yeah let's go to another room okay
11:40so this is also kitchen right yeah this is the kitchen but it is not yet complete but apparently
11:46they use it for drinking water in the jerry cans this is jerry cans yeah flasks
11:52and then this is
11:53flasks for keeping hot tea sometimes we burn tea in the morning and then we keep it in
11:58the flasks
12:00so they fetch water from borehole or was it from borehole yes okay so here are the storage
12:07units for
12:08so they store these waters so they don't have tap water here no no tap water
12:14they go to swim yes to the stream i see and cutler this is another storage unit for sauce
12:23pan
12:24plates scouts i see this area is used to use the kitchen items like fries and balls
12:34and they are stored here in the kitchen like this
12:37how many families are there in this house we are nine
12:419人家族で生活してるみたいです
12:43なので人数分のコップとかここにある感じですね
12:47ここが皆さんの寝室みたいなんですけれども
12:50ここでは全部で6人の方が眠っているみたいです
12:54ちゃんと蚊帳はありますね
12:56やっぱりマラリアがウガンダーとすごい流行しているので
12:59マラリアにかからないために蚊帳は全部のベッドにつ
13:02いてますけど
13:02それぞれのベッドで2人ずつ寝て
13:05あと3人お母さんとかお父さんは別の部屋で生活されている
13:09みたいですね
13:11今この女性の家族が水汲みをしているところを教えてもら
13:16ったので
13:16連れてきてもらいます
13:19ここで普段水汲みをしているみたいです
13:22一応川になっていて流れはありますけど
13:27いろんなゴミも落ちているし
13:29それからこの辺り鳥とか野生の犬とかヤギとかも結構いるので
13:34そういう家畜がもしかしたらこういう場所でフンとかをしたら
13:37そういうものも流れ込んじゃっているかもしれないなと思いますね
13:49ここの水は料理をする時とか洗濯をする時に使うみたいです
13:54けど
13:54飲み水はまた別の場所から買って飲んでいるみたいですね
13:58こんな感じで小川が流れていて
14:01ここで普段生活の水を汲んでいるみたいです
14:04売春には多くのリスクがありますが
14:07特に深刻なのが健康への影響です
14:10ウガンダはHIV感染率が比較的高い国の一つで
14:14成人の約5.8%
14:1620人に1人以上がHIVに感染していると言われています
14:20売春を通じた感染リスクも大きな問題です
14:23適切な否認が行われず
14:25予期せぬ妊娠につながることもあります
14:27貧しい女性にとって子供が増えることは
14:30さらなる生活苦を意味しシングルマザーとしての負担
14:33が増えることで
14:34売春を続けざるを得ない悪循環に陥ることもあります
14:37彼女たちが売春を始める背景には
14:40貧困だけではなく教育の欠如も深く関わっています
14:44売春には多くのリスクがありますが
14:46それを十分に理解しないまま始めてしまう女性が多い
14:50のも現実です
14:51ウガンダにも義務教育制度がありますが
14:53貧しい家庭では学費や制服代を払えず
14:56学校に通いない子供もいます
14:58そのため読み書きができないまま成長し
15:01働ける仕事の選択肢が極端に限られてしまうんです
15:05こうして売春以外の道を選べない女性が生まれ
15:09その子供もまた教育を受けることができず
15:12貧困が世代を超えて続いてしまいます
15:15この悪循環を断ち切るためには
15:17一体何が必要なのか
15:18スラムで女性たちを支援する方にも話を聞きました
15:22多くの女性たちが
15:27女性たちが生まれています
15:31Sami Prostitution due to the Responsibility which is Personal and Family. Do realize that these girls or
15:38young girls
15:39they have their personal needs which the Father and mother cannot Supply and at the end of the day
15:44even at home.
15:45The basic needs, the parents because they no clear jobs or sources of income
15:49they end up lacking a lot at home. And when these girls grow up due to their Simple Beauty

16:59そして生きていける生活を生きていることは?
17:00市民の組織の一つにとりあえず、
17:04この女性のために助けられると、
17:07この男性のために助けることは必要です。
17:11クワンを支援するのも必要があります。
17:14そうすると、そのために助けられる可能性も、
17:17different aspects like maybe tailoring and fashion cookery bakery confectioner like we can look at
17:26Kamparayaki is a very good project when it landed here in the country so such activities
17:32if we do
17:33the empowerment in skills then we can go on by equipping them how today that have been trained
17:39maybe in fashion and design we can provide them with sewing machines to be able to put up some
17:46designs of clothes on market so that they can earn a sustainable living some who can go into
17:53confectionery cookery and bakery to make some bread making Kamparayaki for example having
18:00some
18:00little food like the fast food chips chicken and other things can help them to earn a living other
18:09than going for prostitution but all this also cannot be put up together even to me who is
18:16part of their empowerment I cannot make it because it's a very big number one two putting up such
18:23a training skill a training center or providing them with equipping them with some capital to start up
18:30some business is also hard so majorly we look at this being a better way if we can collectively
18:36come
18:36together and raise some simple resources for them in training and in equipping so that they have some
18:43sustainable business to earn a day living this can be so well to support them and revive their lives out
18:51of the slavery work of prostitution thank you very much
