00:02Firefighters have contained 27% of the Hawk Fire near Reno, Nevada after the wind-driven
00:08blaze destroyed dozens of homes and forced thousands of residents to evacuate.
00:12The fire broke out on Saturday and has burned more than 15,000 acres, spreading rapidly
00:18through dry grass, brush, and forest into residential areas.
00:23No deaths have been reported, but four civilians and three firefighters suffered minor burns.
00:29To date, we've had four civilian injuries and three firefighter injuries.
00:34And our damage assessment teams made their way out into certain areas yesterday.
00:39The areas that they were able to canvas, they did discover 32 destroyed homes and six damaged
00:47homes.
00:47And we expect those numbers to increase as damage assessment teams are still out in the
00:52field assessing other areas right now.
00:54The fire prompted evacuation orders for an estimated 90,000 residents over the weekend.
01:00By Monday afternoon, some evacuations had been lifted, but 23,000 residents remained under
01:06go-now orders, while another 40,000 were told to be ready to evacuate.
01:11More than 900 firefighters, including crews from 15 U.S. states, Australia, and New Zealand,
01:18remained on the ground.
01:20Authorities said the fire was human-caused, but whether it was deliberate or accidental remains
01:26under investigation.
