GSIS Executive Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Strategic Advisory Atty. Joseph Philip Andres discusses the reopening of the Coconut Palace, formally known as Tahanang Pilipino, to the public on Tuesday, Aug. 25, following extensive renovations in Pasay City.

According to Andres, GSIS values the Coconut Palace, with its reopening aimed at preserving Filipino heritage while providing a venue for cultural programs and tourism initiatives, including the ASEAN Leaders’ Summit scheduled for Nov. 10 to 12, 2026. (Video courtesy of Carol Hamilton I MB)

00:00Advanced compensation along serving the public?
00:05Well, as we said earlier, the GSIS values this property as owners of the property.
00:12We want to share this part of the Filipino heritage to the general public.
00:16So that is what we are going to do moving forward.
00:20But of course, after the ASEAN Summit, because we want to show the best of our visits this coming November.
00:26So after that, we will endeavor to be able to open it to the public.
00:31Perhaps by early next year, if there is a property manager to handle this property.
00:38So it seems to be the first quarter of 2027?
00:40Yes, it's a fearless forecast, yes.
00:43But of course, subject to approval of our Board of Trustees at GSIS.
00:47When we say open to the public, sir, free?
00:50Previously, it wasn't free before.
00:55But that's part of what we have to agree upon.
00:58Because I can't remember, it's just free before.
01:02But if you are going to book it for specific events, there is a fee.
01:06But of course, that's part of what we will try to figure out
01:09as you coordinate and procure that property manager.
01:15All right, sir, thank you. Thank you so much.
01:18Thank you very much.
