00:01The last two days we've been hearing from former 2GB radio host Jason Morrison and he's been a key witness
00:10for the prosecution when it comes to one alleged indecent assault relating to one of those six male complainants, Complainant
00:16C.
00:17Now C alleges he was indecently assaulted by the veteran broadcaster Helen Jones on eight separate occasions when the two
00:23worked together in 2008.
00:25Now the last few days of this trial has been centring in on one alleged indecent assault which C says
00:32took place at a restaurant during a Christmas lunch where other people attended.
00:36Now C previously told the court that Helen Jones asked C to sit next to him at this lunch and
00:41he alleges that for most of the lunch that Mr Jones left his hand in Complainant C's crotch and that
00:49it was also witnessed by some of the other lunch attendees.
00:52And one of those witnesses he says was Jason Morrison.
00:56Now Jason Morrison was still giving evidence in chief.
01:00He's still facing questions from the prosecution who is their witness Jason Morrison.
01:05But today Georgina Wright, prosecutor Georgina Wright SC actually successfully applied to be able to cross examine Jason Morrison because
01:12they believe he was giving inconsistent evidence when it came to his police statement and the statement he was giving
01:18throughout this trial.
01:19Now he has told the court that he didn't hear anything or see anything when it came to an alleged
01:25indecent assault or Alan Jones having his hand under the table.
01:28He today was taken back to his police statement where he says that there were jokes made when it came
01:34to Complainant C and Alan Jones supposedly being coupled up.
01:38He said that was in reference to the fact that the pair were sitting next to each other and that
01:43Complainant C wanted to be seated with the other people where Jason Morrison was on a separate table.
01:48He says he was next to the people where he couldn't joke around as much and those jokes were pretty
01:54visible.
01:55There was laughing on the table at the time.
01:57Complainant C says that there were jokes made after that lunch.
02:00He says that someone said to him you were copying a feel from Alan Jones, weren't you?
02:04Now Jason Morrison denies ever hearing something like that.
02:08He says that he doesn't remember hearing a joke being made like that.
02:12But he also says that the joke around being coupled up between Alan Jones and Complainant C wasn't to do
02:17with anything romantic.
02:19He just believed the fact that they were sitting together.
02:22And it was also a joke about Alan Jones being incredibly generous to Complainant C, which he says a number
02:27of guests would have noticed as well.
02:29And what were the other points of contention today?
02:32Yeah, so eventually Jason Morrison was taken to some text messages he shared with Alan Jones between 2018 and 2020.
02:41A lot of those had to do to references to investigative reporter for the Sydney Morning Herald, Kate McClymont.
02:47And the prosecution is trying to suggest that this witness has a bias or a feeling that the Sydney Morning
02:55Herald and Kate McClymont have treated Alan Jones unfairly based on her reporting which first aired these allegations against Mr
03:02Dones.
03:02It was taken to some text messages where he described the pigs in the media.
03:06And he also used some other names that he accepts was derogatory towards Kate McClymont and the Sydney Morning Herald
03:14in those texts exchanged with Alan Jones at certain times.
03:18But he says that was not part of a general view that he held for the Sydney Morning Herald and
03:22Kate McClymont, but rather the specific kind of feelings he had on certain days when it came to whatever might
03:28have been floating around in the press and something that Kate McClymont might have been reporting at the time.
03:33He was also accused at one stage by the prosecution, who we remember this is the prosecution's witness that they
03:38have called.
03:39He was accused of tailoring his evidence for his longtime friend Alan Jones.
03:45We know that the pair worked together for a long period of time.
03:48He accepts he was a longtime friend of Alan Jones.
03:51He strongly denied that claim.
03:53He said it was offensive to suggest that and because he was under oath, it was incredibly offensive to suggest
03:58that he was tailoring his evidence anyway.
04:00So he's standing by his evidence.
04:02He's still under cross-examination from the prosecution.
04:05He's still yet to face cross-examination from the defence and that will continue into tomorrow, Joe.
04:12And still a fair few weeks left in this trial.
04:14Many more weeks and with more legal arguments that keep popping up over the coming days.
04:19And we've seen so previously many, many months that this trial will go on for.
04:23And this complainant, Complainant C, there's still 20 witnesses that need to be called in relation to Complainant C.
04:28So certainly plenty of months to go, Joe.
04:30We'll see you next time.
