00:00and i want to share this image with you to kind of get your technical uh thoughts on this so
00:04he
00:04took this flat cat putting grip and so what he said was you know that flat cat putter grip you
00:10basically put that on the club at a 45 degree angle so like halfway back which is where the
00:15screenshot's taken your right hand sits on that flat part of the grip like on top where you want
00:20to sort of want your grip to be um where you want your right hand i want my right hand
00:24on top of the
00:25club halfway back so the flat cat just gives you that feeling of where it needs to be so he
00:29does
00:29this he feels like he's in much greater control of his golf ball this week obviously almost once a
00:34golf tournament going to a place where he's had a ton of success at east lake what what's he what's
00:39the feel he's working on here smiley uh i've done a similar drill mark blackburn uh when i was working
00:45with him he put a flat cat on my grip and i think we were more training more downswing fields
00:51to try
00:52to get a feel of where he wanted the club in the similar position um or at least at the
00:58height wise
00:58parallel to the ground uh so you're able to kind of simulate you know the feel of where that right
01:04hand is whether it's in the backswing or the downswing and just the squareness of that flat cat
01:10and just how flat it is i mean it the name is exactly what it is it's it's something that
01:15is not rounded off you can really just feel like it's like it's like a flat top with like a
01:21circular
01:22bottom right yeah yeah okay so just you know it almost feels like you're holding like a yardstick
01:27so you can really kind of simulate where square is and then also where you can kind of position the
01:34club and but he's trying to get his right arm to to set the club better on the way back
01:39because for
01:39him he'll just keep it straight straight and then he starts getting across the line and for him with
01:44the longer clubs it makes it difficult to fade the golf ball so uh when he get when he starts
01:50slotting
01:50it like when he's hitting it really well he can do both things and i think he's doing it from
01:55a
01:55better and more neutral position which i think a flat cat helps you definitely um kind of train
02:01that halfway back feel and then from there like he was hitting great shots you could see him kind
02:05of feel like he was comfortable working at both ways especially with his irons and and so for this
02:11particular image essentially they're installing the grip so that he knows that club face is you know
02:17square or slightly closer wherever he wants to be in that position and then that's where his right
02:21hand needs to be for him to achieve that club face position is that like kind of boiling it down
02:26for everyone it's a different feel for everybody you know like some guys are trying to accomplish
02:29something different some player might be um just focusing on what the club face is doing like they
02:34may say yeah i'm too shut on the way back and this you know a really square grip makes me
02:41feel like
02:41i'm shaking hands with somebody over here to the right of me like that shake hands feel uh is something
02:47that helps get a you would think it's representative of what the club face would be doing
02:51too which would be a little bit more square um especially if you were super shot and then most of
02:58most likely you would you want it to be square to your spine angle not quite square to like actually
03:04shaking someone's hand actually that would be open um but a similar type of feel that that some guys
03:10are trying to create i think it's so interesting and we did a bunch of this we did that rain
03:15show
03:15at aeronomic this year where you got scotty scheffler with the pre-installed grip that that
03:19you know kind of checks his grip every single time out the classic grip trainer now you got rory
03:24using the flat cat we saw windham clark a couple weeks ago with like an actual hanger he took out
03:29of his hotel room to simulate a certain feel we saw some wild stuff on the range is there like
03:33is
03:33there what is the the training aid that you either you used or you saw someone else using your career
03:39that stood out to you the most as being like wow like this is this is wild or elaborate or
03:44i don't
03:44know that i'll ever see this thing again now the the best training aid that i ever saw
03:48on the pga tour it was super old school and how they did it two guys used it charlie hoffman
03:54and ameliano grillo and both of these guys use it to train rhythm and they had one club in their
04:01bag that would have a little mini b like a bb in there and so it would be loose in
04:07the shaft and so
04:08they would take a full swing you would hear the bb go all the way up to the i think
04:13yes so we go to
04:13the club head uh as it would like roll down the shaft and as soon as it would stop then
04:18they would
04:18start their downswing and hit it and so all it was doing was training your your rhythm out of the
04:23top to not be quick and if you watch both of those guys like they're they have such great rhythm
04:28emiliano's i think has some of the best like transition of anybody on the pga tour i think a
04:34big reason why it's just that simple drill now if you're hitting nexum on the range like you
04:39you know you kind of hear it a lot maybe it's nice to throw in those headphones but like also
04:43you kind of can hear it and listen to it and you and you kind of get better with uh
04:47just through osmosis right like just hearing you're like oh yeah that's that's good
04:52is
