00:02New York City Mayor Zoran Mamdani is backing legislation that would impose new requirements
00:08on Amazon and other warehouse operators, according to the Wall Street Journal.
00:12The Delivery Protection Act would require warehouse licenses tied to safety,
00:16training and employment standards, and force Amazon to directly hire couriers
00:20now employed by delivery partners.
00:22Amazon says the bill could put more than 5,000 delivery jobs at risk
00:26and has contributed about $5 million to a campaign opposing it.
00:30Mamdani has also announced more than $9 million in idling fines
00:33against Amazon delivery vehicles and sent cease and desist orders over illegal e-bike sales.
00:38Supporters say the bill would strengthen worker protections,
00:41while delivery company owners say it could threaten small businesses.
