Dolly Parton, the legendary country music icon and beloved philanthropist, has died at the age of 80.

Her death was announced Tuesday by her publicist, with no immediate cause of death disclosed. Parton had been dealing with health challenges in the months leading up to her passing and had recently canceled a scheduled appearance at Dollywood after doctors advised her not to travel.

The country superstar had previously acknowledged her health struggles, saying, “I have had a few little health issues,” and explaining that she sometimes experienced dizziness and dehydration.

Parton’s death marks the end of an extraordinary career spanning more than six decades. Through her music, songwriting and generosity, she became one of the most recognizable and admired figures in entertainment.

Her passing also comes just over a year after the death of her husband, Carl Dean, with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage.

From “Jolene” and “9 to 5” to “I Will Always Love You,” Parton created songs that became part of music history.

Dolly Parton leaves behind a legacy that will continue through her music, charitable work and generations of fans who loved her.
