00:12Carson Wisenhut of the San Francisco Giants underwent an MRI today,
00:18which has revealed a tear of his UCL.

00:30Well, it's off to Dr. Neil Elitrash for that second opinion,
00:36and I think he walks around town with his scalpel in his hand.
00:39That guy cuts on everyone.

00:43So Carson Wisenhut, who was already really struggling,
00:47and arriving, I think, damn near the disappointment train,
00:54because we've heard for a couple of years that that was their big pitching prospect,
00:58and it has not gone well so far in the bigs for him,
01:01but also left the game last night with elbow discomfort,
01:04and it turns out he's got a torn UCL.
01:07So for those of you who don't speak sports, that's the Tommy John surgery.
01:13Rest in peace.
01:14That means also, yes, rest in peace, but it also means on August 25th,
01:18I think, I mean, I think you're looking at 2028 for Carson Wisenhut,
01:23and based on the performance that he was having and what the organization is doing,
01:28I mean, there's a real strong chance you never see Carson Wisenhut in a Giants uniform again.
01:32That's a very strong possibility, and so I guess the conspiracy theorists
01:37would immediately start to canvas the area around the ballpark
01:41and figure out where the nearest substation is.
01:44In all seriousness, why do they seem to have more UCL injuries than other teams?
01:50And I may just be like, well, you had Trevor McDonald,
01:53and I could be like captain small sample size,
01:56and didn't their closer have one last year?

02:09I don't know if he is going to work on that,
02:11but UCL injuries per team over a sample of however many years,
02:17it just feels like they have more of them than other teams.

02:22I do know that within baseball circles,
02:25it's something that oddly now pitchers almost,
02:29I don't want to say they hope for it,
02:30but there is a thought process for pitchers,
02:34and this would apply to, for example, Trevor McDonald,
02:37and Keaton Wynn is the latest example of this.
02:40Keaton Wynn had this a few years ago.
02:42The thought process is if you're going to have this happen,
02:46have it happen early in your career,
02:49because there is something,
02:51the surgery has gotten so good that players tend to come back
02:55with an even stronger arm.
02:56So you get your UCL, you get your Tommy John,

03:00and if you were throwing 95 before, now you're throwing 98.

03:06But Wynn Hunt, he's not a guy who throws 95, is he?

03:08He's got that changeup.
03:09Well, he's also not a guy right now that looks like a major league pitcher,
03:13so I don't even know if it's relevant.
03:15But the bottom line is,
03:16is this once upon a time was a death blow,
03:19and it has now turned into something that,
03:22again, I don't want to say you seek it out,
03:24but there are a lot of,
03:26there's a lot of talk in baseball where pitchers,
03:29it's almost like,
03:30look, we know this is coming at some point,
03:33let's get it done early.
03:35You know, you hear about this in high school and college,
03:37where it's like, let's just do it, man.
03:39Let's do it.
03:39Let's get it out of the way.
03:40Get me my three miles an hour,
03:41and let's see if I can show out and go have a career.
03:45So it's not a death blow anymore by any stretch,
03:48and it is, it's very, very common for pitchers.

03:55I mean, I'll go to the medical experts
03:57and see if they actually have that data on this sort of thing.

04:04going back to, I don't know, last March,
04:05and it was, you know, Wizenhunt, and it was Seymour,
04:08and it was the other Carson, and, you know, Landon Roop,
04:11and it was Trevor McDonald.
04:12It's like, yeah, we got these young arms that are,
04:14they're coming, and then this year Landon Roop
04:17has really fallen back, and now you've got Wizenhunt
04:20who's gone, and McDonald is gone, and Roop is really,
04:24I mean, kind of regressed to the point of,
04:26like, if you look at next year's rotation right now,
04:29is Blade Tidwell your number two?
04:33I mean, baby.

04:35He's on the list.

04:39That's why they're drafting pitchers like crazy
04:41is a lot of the young arms they had.
