00:00Hello, hi, this is Bhapna from India Today. How are you? Namaste.
00:04Hello, how are you?
00:05How are you?
00:06I'm great, thank you so much. I am just glad to be talking to Green Lanterns.
00:10I mean, who would have thought in my bloodline, especially no one would have thought that.
00:14So I'm very, very happy.
00:16You know, when I watched the first episode, all I could really sense is the chemistry,
00:22the give and take between the two characters, Dhal and John, right?
00:26And kudos to both of you to be able to pull off the chemistry and that bromance in a way
00:32which is very infectious.
00:34But I want to know from both of you, when you heard that, you know, Kyle is playing Hal
00:40and you're playing John, like, what was your reaction to being cast as each other's co-star?
00:48I was curious to know.
00:50Yeah, I mean, so for me, Kyle was cast before me and I was aware of that casting information
00:59and I was just very excited by it.
01:02You know, I was very excited to meet him in person.
01:08And I knew a few people who Kyle knew, mutual associates, who when they spoke about Kyle,
01:18they said all the things that I enjoy the most in a collaborator and a teammate.
01:24You know, they shared how much he loves to, you know, like improvise and be present and,
01:30you know, devise things on the spot and really go as far as he'll be permitted to go.
01:38And that's very much how I operate.
01:41So I knew that when I went in for that final reading, that it was going to be fun.
01:48I knew it was going to be fun.
01:49I knew the fact that I was there in a brace recovering from a distal bicep tendon was going
01:56to be fun.
01:56And we were going to use that somehow, some way, but it was, I just knew it was going to
02:01be great.
02:01And from the first meeting, it was just, it was just a joy.
02:05You know, he's a good man.
02:07Absolutely.
02:07Kyle, what was your reaction when you found out that he's playing John?
02:12Well, it certainly wasn't the same as his.
02:17No, I didn't, I didn't know Aaron.
02:19I did not know Aaron.
02:21I didn't know anything about him, tell you the truth, other than the work he'd done.
02:25And, and I didn't, I don't think I talked to anyone personally about Aaron or anything,
02:31but the audition, you know, the audition went really well.
02:36And, and we had a good time together.
02:38And then we went and did the reading together and we had a lot of fun doing the reading.
02:43And then, then, you know, you just, you just never know until you get in a work atmosphere,
02:48what someone's really like, you know, he might said all these nice things about me.
02:52And he'd be found out that when we're sitting in a car for 10 hours and, uh, in hot weather
02:57and waiting for the thing to start,
03:00he didn't know that I, I was, I, I tend to talk constantly.
03:03And, um, and he can't get out of the car because there's a camera attached to it.
03:08And, uh, but it became real, it became pretty evident, pretty quick.
03:12Us playing with each other, um, with the, with the roles and our own personalities and sharing information.
03:17And, uh, we had a really good time and, you know, it takes a little effort to open yourself up
03:23to, to share who you are.
03:25So you can get to the point of let's find out who we are now and let's work this thing
03:30out and start playing the game.
03:32Um, and yeah, so we were all into that and we had a good time doing it and we are
03:37very different.
03:38So it was very much, um, uh, it was very much like, it was like brothers picking on each other.
03:47Sometimes in life, just because of inherently how it can be when you meet someone who, uh,
03:57maybe not fundamentally is completely different,
04:00but they have enough differences to you where you're not on the same page about everything.
04:06You never really oftentimes get to still know that person to a really deep level.
04:15Because oftentimes just on the first interaction, it might be like,
04:18well, okay, there's, there's enough differences that, you know,
04:22we may not necessarily need to pursue discovering more about one another.
04:25But when you are in this context, we, we had all that six months.
04:32And, and what's really interesting is you learn that there is actually far more that you share the same perspective
04:41on than don't.
04:42And, and, and, and it's, it was just a lesson for me as a, as a young man, you know,
04:46lesson for me that sometimes that there is actually,
04:50the people who may be on first interaction, you, you may not hypothesize or guess are on the same page
04:57as you.
04:58Actually, they can be the people that understand you the, the most, um, and comprehend who you are as an
05:04individual.
05:04Absolutely, you know, yeah, I think that is also one of the qualities that John needed to be a rookie
05:12lantern in the series as well,
05:14to be able to absorb, observe and sort of like adapt to certain things.
05:18So I think there you are the real, like the, the perfect cast then both of you, in fact, but,
05:24uh, I want to know from, uh,
05:25uh, I don't have a lot of time, but I know that Aaron, you grew up in London and the
05:30reason why I ask you that is because I know that in London Indians are almost like
05:36every 10, in every 10 person you'll find at least two Indians.
05:41So I want to know how much do you know about my country and would you, both of you be
05:45open to perhaps, uh, coming here sometime because I know both of you have a huge fan following you.
05:51Uh, I've been there. I've been to your country. I was in Chandigarh shooting, uh, Zero Dark Thirty.
05:58Yeah.
06:00Yeah.
06:00Oh, wow.
06:01Yeah.
06:02But that was a long time back.
06:03So we are not counting that.
06:05But it's still, it counts.
06:08Um, I would, I would love.
06:09Even before you were born, but it counts.
06:12Um, I would love to visit India and, and you're absolutely right.
06:16There is a, uh, very present and beautiful, um, Indian community in London.
06:24Uh, one of my best friends, one of my dearest friends growing up, um, was Indian.
06:29And I used to love, you know, I'm, my heritage is, uh, Caribbean and West African.
06:34Um, so we both, both of our families shared an enormous passion for food and how to be, uh,
06:42uh, how to love on your food with different seasonings and, uh, things like that.
06:47So I, he used to love coming to my place.
06:49I used to love going to his place.
06:51Um, and, uh, yeah.
06:55Yeah.
06:57Yeah.
06:57So you, both of you have to now come to India as well, because you have to see for yourself
07:01how much people love you.
07:03Right?
07:03Oh, I would love that.
07:04I'm not counting your, like, you have to meet us at the airport.
07:09Done.
07:10Done deal.
07:10This is on record.
07:11I shall do that.
07:12Thank you so much for your time.
07:13Thank you so much.
07:14You're welcome.
07:16You.
07:16You.
07:17You.
