00:00The American tanks halted briefly, waiting for reinforcements, but by late morning the battle
00:05began. The Germans fought back fiercely, using rifles, anti-tank weapons, and rocket launchers
00:12to slow the American advance. Both sides suffered losses, with around 30 German soldiers killed
00:18and others wounded. By 1 p.m., it was clear that the German defenders could not hold their ground
00:24against the overwhelming firepower of the American tanks, so the main force began to
00:28retreat south, hoping to regroup elsewhere. A small group of German soldiers was left behind,
00:36likely with the expectation that they would surrender rather than continue the fight.
00:41Supposedly, they were left behind because they were the weakest, and their commander hoped that
00:46they would be taken prisoner by the Americans and survive the war. However, he could not have been
00:52more wrong.
