00:00First thing I need to say, remember, the price cap only applies if you are on your firm's standard tariff,
00:07the standard variable tariff.
00:09That's the default tariff, the I haven't fixed tariff, the I did nothing when my fix ended tariff.
00:15Then this applies to you and you will in almost all cases see your prices rise.
00:21If you're already on a fix, if you're already locked into a special deal, this does not affect you.
00:26A fix is a fix, your deal is a deal, and you will stay on that price until that fix
00:30ends.
00:31And then if you do nothing at that point, you'll be moved on to the standard variable rate, so the
00:36price cap.
00:36So let's go through what's happening in detail.
00:38The electricity unit rate on the price cap is going up just under 1%.
00:43The electricity standing charge, the daily charge you pay just for having electricity, is actually going down by about 4%.
00:51The really big rises are on gas.
00:54The gas unit rate on average is going up by 9%, and the gas standing charge is going up by
01:012.2%.
01:02So if we bring that all together, if you're an electricity-only low-using household, you might actually see a
01:09slight drop in your bills, mainly because of the cut in VAT.
01:12When we get to the 1st of October, if you use gas and electricity and you've got heavy gas usage,
01:17then your rise is likely to be substantially more than 3.6% on the 1st of October.
01:22But that's the big picture of what is going to happen.
01:25The current look is January is going to get even worse.
01:28What can you do?
01:29Well, if you are on the price cap, if you're on your company's standard variable tariff, if you've not done
01:34anything, you can get a fix.
01:37Fix rates are not brilliant right now.
01:39They're about 7% cheaper than the current cap.
01:42So let's say they're 7% cheaper than the current cap, but that cap is going up 4% in
01:47October, and it's predicted to be going up 9% in January.
01:50And it's rigged, and it's on the note, and it's actually quite a bit evolving.
01:50I can see a lot of times, but it's diluted if it's going up 10%.
01:51It's because EO's is the only place that could occur.
01:51So that's going to be somewhere that travelled right and that
