A clothing company claimed a woman's social media posts caused more than $2.18 million in losses.

But when the case reached summary judgment, the question became much simpler: Where was the evidence?

In Case File 002 of The Paper Trail, we follow the federal lawsuit filed by Nine Line Apparel over a series of social media posts and a podcast interview concerning two former employees and the events surrounding a July 2022 murder-suicide.

Nine Line accused the defendant of defamation and interference with its business relationships. She denied making false statements and later asked the court to enter summary judgment in her favor.

Using the parties' court filings, motions, exhibits, and the court's Report and Recommendation, this episode follows what each side alleged, what happened during discovery, and what Nine Line ultimately had to prove for its claims to survive.

Every case leaves a paper trail.
The Paper Trail explores real civil lawsuits through court filings, exhibits, correspondence, police reports, company responses, and other public records.
