00:00The Public Accounts Committee will begin proceedings to scrutinize the follow-up to a Royal Commission of Inquiry report on
00:07Tabung Haji's management and operations between 2014 and 2020.
00:12PAC Chairman Mas Ermiyati Samsudin said the RCI findings were serious and could erode Muslims' confidence if not properly addressed.
00:22In a Facebook post, she noted that several questions remained after the RCI report was made public and debated during
00:29a special Dewan Rakyat sitting on August 11.
00:34Mas Ermiyati stressed the PAC proceedings would not repeat the RCI's investigation, which she described as comprehensive.
00:43Instead, the committee will focus on the status and progress of implementing the RCI's recommendations.
00:51Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahir Hamidi had yesterday said the PAC was better placed to conduct a follow-up investigation
00:58than for the government to establish a new RCI.
01:02The RCI had found that excessive Hiba commitments, questionable accounting practices, weak oversight, ambitious investment strategies and rising subsidy obligations
01:13placed significant financial pressure on Tabung Haji from 2014 to 2020.
01:19The report also found Tabung Haji had reported a RM3.4 billion profit in 2017 when it should have recorded
01:28a RM1.4 billion net loss, creating a nearly RM4.8 billion discrepancy.
01:36Mas Ermiyati said the PAC's terms of reference, witnesses and proceedings details had yet to be finalized.
01:45She noted the committee would use the RCI report, Auditor General's report and PWC audit report as references.
01:54Mas Ermiyati maintained the PAC would conduct the proceedings transparently and fairly to ensure accountability and restore depositors' confidence in
02:04Tabung Haji.
