00:00Amazon wants delivery drones in nearly 500 U.S. cities.
00:03Those same drones have already hit a crane in Arizona,
00:06clipped a cable in Waco,
00:08and crashed into an apartment building outside Dallas.
00:10Here's what's happening.
00:11Prime Air already flies in 11 metro areas,
00:14dropping packages under 5 pounds in as fast as 30 minutes.
00:18Amazon announced it's growing the program,
00:20aiming for nearly 500 cities and towns by the end of 2026,
00:23including Chicago and Atlanta.
00:25So a lot more people are about to have these things flying low overhead,
00:28whether they ordered anything or not.
00:30Amazon says safety is top priority.
00:33After the 2025 Arizona crane collision,
00:36spokesperson Terrence Clark told NBC News,
00:38the company's internal review found no issue with the drone's technology.
00:42Amazon also told Axios that community response so far
00:45has been overwhelmingly positive,
00:46with fewer than 1% of Prime Air's customer service inquiries this past year
00:50being about noise.
00:51But in College Station, Texas,
00:54one resident describes a different scene.
00:58He told NBC News the drones sound like a giant hive of bees
01:01and that he's heard from nurses, police officers,
01:04and firefighters who work overnight,
01:05saying their sleep got cut because of the noise.
01:08The expansion is moving ahead as planned,
01:10but would you want to trade in the noise and occasional crash
01:12for a package in 30 minutes,
01:14or is that a deal you never signed up for?
01:16Drop your take in the comments.
