00:00Monique, born in 331 in Tagaste, in present-day Algeria, grew up in a Christian family.
00:06At a very young age, she was married to Patricius, a pagan man with a lively temperament and who was sometimes unfaithful.
00:13Instead of despairing, Monique faced this ordeal with unwavering faith and exemplary patience.
00:22Her constant prayers and gentleness succeeded in softening her husband's heart.
00:27who eventually converted to Christianity shortly before his death.
00:32However, Monique's greatest pain came from her son, Augustin, a brilliant but turbulent mind.
00:40Augustine drifted away from the faith of his childhood, allowing himself to be seduced by worldly philosophies and leading a life
00:47dissolved.
00:49For seventeen long years, Monique never stopped praying and crying for the conversion of her son.
00:56She followed him from Tagaste to Carthage, then to Rome and finally to Milan, persevering despite the disappointments and the
01:04false hopes.
01:06It was in Milan that she met Bishop Ambrose, a man of great wisdom who consoled her in him
01:12saying
01:12"A son of so many tears cannot perish."
01:17His words comforted her and in 386, the long-awaited miracle occurred.
01:24Augustine converted, touched by divine grace and the sermons of Ambrose.
01:30Monique's joy was immense, knowing that her prayers had finally been answered.
01:35Shortly afterwards, as he was preparing to return to Africa, Monique and Augustin shared a deep conversation
01:43to Hostie
01:44where they contemplated the divine mysteries together.
01:48A few days later, Monique passed away peacefully in Hostie, her heart filled with serenity, having accomplished her mission on
01:57earth.
01:58Today, Saint Monica is a model of faith, patience, and maternal love.
02:05She is the patron saint of mothers, wives, and people facing difficult marriages.
02:11and of all those who pray for the conversion of their loved ones.
02:15Her life testifies to the power of persevering prayer and absolute trust in God's mercy.
