00:00Three o'clock, great to have you with us.
00:02Little college football, and I want to bring something up,
00:05and you have the option, you pick whatever side you want on this.
00:08It is a question.
00:10Now, I understand that we have no hope of succeeding with this topic.
00:15There is no world we'll be able to have an adult conversation.
00:19So I don't care, we're going to have fun.
00:21ESPN had their top 100 college football players.
00:26So I clicked on it, because I go, okay, well,
00:29could this be something for us?
00:31And I started scrolling, looking for one particular player,
00:36Mr. Bryce Underwood.
00:37And 100 became 90, 90 became 80.
00:41Got a little worried at 70, where I'm going, all right,
00:43if he's higher than this, we got a little problem here.
00:4660, 50, 40, I'm going, all right, well, now we've reached crack phase.
00:50So he's either here, or he didn't make the list at all.
00:54He did not.
00:56So I then reverse engineered it and said, okay,
00:58if Bryce Underwood didn't make the top 100 list,
01:01before I ask, is it a snub or is it a reality check?
01:06How many quarterbacks did make the list?
01:09And I counted them.
01:1118 quarterbacks made the list.
01:14You know who didn't make the list besides Bryce Underwood just to show you
01:18what it takes to be on the list?
01:19Lenore Sellers.
01:21So I said, okay, juxtapose this, where he's essentially not a top 20 QB in the
01:28country, with the local headlines.
01:32I mean, there was a literal headline the other day,
01:35his throws are so good, Michigan DBs are stopping and staring.
01:41Now, I'm largely numb to that because the September Heisman was crafted in Ann Arbor.
01:48I've been through this with Shane Morris, Peters, Brandon Peters.
01:52I've been through it with Tate 4CA.
01:54I've been through it with Shoelace.
01:55I've been through it with Shea Patterson.
01:57I mean, it never stops.
01:59So I'm kind of numb to it, but you get the local headlines and hype and sizzle,
02:07and then you juxtapose it with a national view, only one view, but a national view.
02:13He didn't make the top 100, and I think more damning, there are 18 quarterbacks on this
02:19list, including some guys I don't think are very good.
02:22And I wanted to ask Michigan fan primarily because I'm not interested in like Notre Dame
02:30fans view of Underwood.
02:32It's your quarterback and Rico has the salary stuff, which I think is illuminating as well.
02:37Is this a snub?
02:39Do you believe Bryce is a top 100 player?
02:42Do you believe he's one of the top 18 quarterbacks?
02:45Do you believe it is so egregious that he's not on this list that it's a shoo-in?
02:49He will be by the middle of the season.
02:54Or is it a reality check?
02:57Is it a reality check that you've been lied to?
03:00You were told this guy was the three-time winner of the Golden Phallus Award.
03:04You were told this guy could have played for an NFL team last year.
03:08You're being told right now he's making throws so amazing, guys are messing their pants in
03:14all.
03:16It's one or the other, isn't it?
03:18Is it a snub or is it a reality check?
03:23Michael, I think it's a little bit of both because you would think Michigan being a top
03:2815 team preseason.
03:30You'd need a top 20 QB.
03:32That three of their players would be in the top 100, including the quarterback, your captain
03:37of the team, the leader of the team.
03:38He would be in there.
03:39So yes, if I were you, I probably would have did the same thing.
03:42Like, wow, they got him as a top 20 player.
03:45Wow.
03:45He's going to be a top 10 player.
03:46I kept scrolling and I'm like, oh, oh, wait a minute.
03:50He's not even there.
03:51But if you base it off of what he did last year and not what he did in practice and
03:56not
03:56all the hype that you get in the offseason, I could understand that because Mike, in most
04:02games, the best thing that the best throws that he made was when he didn't throw the
04:06ball when he took off and ran.
04:07And Marsh saved him.
04:08So that's he didn't make big plays against big time teams, put them up against, you know,
04:15Central Michigan, and he looked like a Heisman Trophy winner.
04:17So it can't be.
04:19Look, we know there's truth in everything, right?
04:21That it can be both.
04:23I need you to tell me 51 percent, 49 percent.
04:28Is it a snub or is it a reality check?
04:32I want to know.
04:33I want to know where Michigan fans are with it.
04:35You can feel however you want to feel.
04:37But like the local headlines, he made a throw so good the Michigan DBs were saying.
04:47I mean, like enough, just enough.
04:51But that's a local me.
04:52This is what they do.
04:53They've been doing they've been doing this since probably before I moved here.
04:57It's every summer.
04:59Every quarterback is everything.
05:01And then they are not right.
05:02So I just would like to know.
05:04Now, David, you're our resident Wolverine scumbag.
05:07And I wanted your enlightened take.
05:10Is this a snub or a reality check?
05:13You guys know how I feel in my opinion on Bryce Underwood.
05:17He has time to prove me wrong.
05:19But no, this is not a snub.
05:22This is a reality check.
05:24I didn't see that gift last year that he supposedly has.
05:30I did not see it.
05:32Yes, I've heard things in camp about him doing this and doing that.
05:36But that's camp.
05:37Let me see it in games.
05:39Let me see it week two against Oklahoma.
05:41And then I'll say, OK, he's proving me wrong.
05:44Right now.
05:45No, not not.
05:46So, David, you're kind of setting it up where you're not going to answer the question.
05:53Oh, no, no.
05:54It's reality.
05:55It's a reality check.
05:56Big time.
05:57Not for me, because I've been on this train.
05:59But here's my problem with saying that.
06:00If he's one good game away from being on the list, then it's a snub.
06:05I didn't say one good game.
06:07I said, then it's like, OK, then keep proving it to me.
06:11OK.
06:11It's just one game.
06:12And then you keep doing that for me.
06:15One game is not changing my mind.
06:18David, right.
06:19The last time you saw him, it was Ohio State.
06:22Then it was the Texas game.
06:24And then if you tuned into the big network, you saw him in the spring game.
06:27None of those jumped off the pace.
06:29None of those said you're a top 100 player.
06:32After a while, Mike, the hype goes away.
06:35And your body of work has to stand for you.
06:38And he does not have that body of work.
06:40Now, if you want to forecast and project and say, but he's going to get better,
06:44then maybe midseason he jumps into the top 100.
06:47But I could easily see how he got left out of this.
06:50Now, is this a snub?
06:51I don't know.
06:52Because I see where David is coming from.
06:55Do it against Oklahoma, and now you've piqued my interest.
06:58That's it.
06:59Yeah, you went up against Texas.
07:01OK, you want to say it was just a bowl game.
07:03But you were out there looking like you were trying to play.
07:06Ohio State, that's the game.
07:08OK.
07:08And if you wanted the comparison, too, and I know I caught a lot of crap for this last year,
07:14that's fine because people don't watch games.
07:16Do you remember when we were talking about JKS?
07:18Yeah.
07:19They laid the kid a cow, and I'm like, dude, he's running circles around Underwood.
07:23Like, this kid is awesome.
07:25Underwood is not.
07:26They have him at 46.
07:28So, like, that evaluation was not crazy.
07:30Now, from a Big Ten standpoint, I think what the list is telling you is they don't have a lot
07:35of respect for the Big Ten's quarterbacks,
07:38which I don't.
07:39So, you have two that are really up high, which are Dante, and then Sayan.
07:46Sayan, thank you.
07:47The next Big Ten QB comes in at 55, which is Josh Hoover, the kid from TCU who plays at
07:53Indiana now.
07:55Not my Ava?
07:56No.
07:57He's at 55.
07:59Then I'm going just down the list here real quick.
08:01Demond Williams, I can't believe I have to acknowledge Washington as a Big Ten school.
08:06He's at 64, and then, and I apologize, guys, we're doing it in real time.
08:11I'm sorry if you're in listener land.
08:14No.
08:15See, like, I'll give you a guy I think sucks, and this guy's terrible, and you could have put Underwood
08:21here instead of this kid,
08:22and I would have said, you know what, fine.
08:24Anytime I watch Kevin Jennings at SMU, I'm left going, did this guy get body snatched?
08:29I'm told this guy's great.
08:31I'm watching.
08:32I hate this guy.
08:33He's terrible.
08:34He was, like, 75.
08:36But, yeah, the Big Ten is light on quarterback play.
08:40That's the thing that really jumps out at you, because it's not like, hey, guys, there's a ton of amazing
08:46QBs in the Big Ten.
08:48There is not.
08:49No.
08:49So it's not like he got squeezed out.
08:51No.
08:51There's three on the list.
08:53I don't think Rocco Beck is in there.
08:55He is not.
08:57Nor should he be.
08:58Hey, Penn State, we are.
09:00Yeah, that's another guy I don't like.
09:01But I do.
09:03I want to know where you're at with it, whether it is just, look, when 18 quarterbacks make the list,
09:08and the Big Ten doesn't have good quarterback play,
09:13I think that's a reality check to where things are, not where they might be, not where you want them
09:20to be.
09:20But this idea that locally, when you juxtapose what's coming out of camp, and you pair it with something like
09:28this, that's where you're left going.
09:31Really?
09:31What's leading me, it's a story that I told you, Mike, I'm going to be paying close attention to, that,
09:36David, if the Oklahoma game does not go the way that they think, the whole Tommy Carr, there will be
09:43a groundswell to, because they're going to be like, look, his brother's doing well at Notre Dame, maybe we're sitting
09:49on something here.
09:50He's a legacy kid, maybe we need to play him.
09:54Just saying.
09:55The fact that he's not there.
09:56I would be in disbelief, I, well, you've been saying it, I have no way to disprove you, I would
10:03be stunned.
10:05Stunned.
10:05But, maybe something we can add to it is, there was an article today, we could pair up some of
10:10the salaries of these young men.
10:12This is a separate issue.
10:14I think it's showing you just how insane this is.
10:18Look, we're not even talking about, hey, this guy's making a mil or two.
10:24The top guy in the country is making six and a half, and it's not who you think.
10:30And you're getting outside the top ten, making over three million.
10:36Rico's got the list.
10:37He'll take you through that a little bit later in the hour.
10:39It is, it's showing you why this is totally unsustainable.
10:44The NFL minimum is like 800.
10:48You got guys that aren't that good making three.
10:51I mean, look, I know it's a different day and age, Mike, but yeah, Mr. Irrelevant, Purdy came in making
10:57$800,000.
10:58He just got bumped up a few years ago.
11:01I think there's something wrong with it.
11:02I think there's something incredibly wrong with guys making four, five, 10x, you know, the NFL minimum.
11:08You're not in the NFL.
11:10We'll get to it.
