00:00Due to droughts and water shortages, tons of fish have died at one of Hungary's largest fish farm complexes, Récimeyer,
00:08which covers 800 hectares of water.
00:11According to the fisheries owner, the problem was caused by the Water Authority, withholding water upstream of the lake system
00:17for irrigation purposes.
00:45According to Levi, maintaining water levels in this protective system, the water is not allowed.
00:52The Water Management Authority said that water withdrawals by all users had been restricted due to water shortage even more
00:59severe than expected, but that restrictions on fish ponds were limited to 20 percent, while water available for irrigation was
01:07restricted by 60 percent.
01:10It added evaporation from the 800 hectare fish ponds represented an irreplaceable loss of water that dwarfed water consumption for
01:18irrigation.
01:19Both Levi and the authorities stressed it is necessary to examine how water demands can be met amid changing precipitation
01:27patterns and extreme weather conditions.
