00:00Sudan has lifted a two-year-old nighttime curfew and a state of emergency in the capital, Khartoum,
00:07in a move authorities say will allow residents to move and work around the clock.
00:11The decision was announced by the Security Affairs Coordination Committee
00:15following a meeting chaired by Khartoum Governor Ahmed Otman Hamza.
00:20But despite the easing of restrictions, security remains tight.
00:24Army patrols and checkpoints will continue operating across the capital
00:28and residents travelling late at night have been urged to carry identification documents.
00:34Authorities have also imposed restrictions on foreign nationals entering Khartoum state.
00:39Entry will be prohibited by public or private transport, including trains, buses,
00:45unless travellers have valid visas or permits.
00:49The curfew was introduced in May of 2024 as fighting intensified between Sudan's army
00:54and the paramilitary rapid support forces.
00:56It had restricted movement between 11 at night and 5 in the morning,
01:01while commercial traffic and pedestrians faced even tighter restrictions.
01:05Sudan's war has raged since April of 2023,
01:08killing tens of thousands and forcing millions from their homes.
