00:00Okay, so there's a couple here.
00:02Rob Parker might have just earned himself Donkey of the Week
00:05because to point to Kyle Schwarber's batting average in the postseason.
00:09How many home runs does Kyle Schwarber have in the postseason?
00:11So I'm looking at just from 2015 until now,
00:15he has 23 home runs in the postseason,
00:19which is third in Major League Baseball, right?
00:22So who cares about batting average when you're talking about Kyle Schwarber?
00:26How many runs did he account for?
00:28Do you win with batting average or do you win with runs?
00:31If I batted 300 but I batted in four runs, does anybody care?
00:37No.
00:38In a postseason series?
00:39How about if I batted 230 and I batted in 14 runs?
00:44Do you think you care about that?
00:45Look, I know Ricky gets mad at the propeller heads, the analytics,
00:49but most people don't use batting average anymore
00:52to really examine how a home run hitter is doing.
00:56In the last – and the shift has really been probably in the last 10 years,
00:59but you can go back further than that, maybe 15 or 20.
01:03Players aren't scared to strike out anymore.
01:05They don't care about the strikeouts anymore.
01:08Listen, we live here in Philadelphia.
01:10We've seen enough of the bats and the at-bats and the approach of the plate
01:14to know that it's just not a thing.
01:15But it's not just a Philadelphia thing.
01:17That's across the board.
01:18Strikeouts are up across the board over the last decade.
01:22There isn't as much impetus put on the fact that you're striking out.
01:26It's a home run game.
01:28It's a runs batted in game.
01:30It's all about what you can do.
01:31So the guys that are batting 300, that's amazing.
01:34That's always going to be an impressive stat.
01:35It's always going to be good.
01:37But it's just not as big a knock as it used to be if you're batting under 300.
01:41It's not the big detriment of like, oh, that guy only batted 260.
01:45How many runs did he batted in is the very first follow-up question.
01:47And if that number is in the triple digits, I don't care what he batted.
01:52Yeah, I disagree with Parker on that.
