00:00:00Does your name ever make you hungry?
00:00:05No.
00:00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:00:08And today, we're counting down our picks for the best times a host would break character on Saturday Night Live.
00:00:14Well, that's one way of putting it.
00:00:16Then I try to complete a pass to a tight end who usually goes deep and long, and hopefully we
00:00:21score.
00:00:25Number 50. Kate McKinnon, ABBA Christmas.
00:00:29Returning to host the show, Kate McKinnon did not disappoint, and neither did a surprise list of cameos.
00:00:35This ABBA-inspired sketch follows a fake version of the band performing Christmas songs.
00:00:40It's their 1978 Christmas album, ABBA Christmas, with songs like Santa Queen.
00:00:47Santa's lost your life's a dream.
00:00:52You're at the dance, you're 17.
00:00:56The choreography and camera angles make it all better, with the cast doing their best accents.
00:01:02Their singing in close proximity only make them laugh.
00:01:05At one point, McKinnon has to readjust and sing directly behind Kristen Wiig.
00:01:09Sung with their signature, standing close, facing different directions.
00:01:21It's just one glorious moment in a musical sketch full of breaks.
00:01:25Maya Rudolph and Bowen Yang round out the group, making this absurd parody even more unforgettable.
00:01:30Kiss for me, kiss for you, uh-huh.
00:01:34They are wrapped in red and blue.
00:01:37Kiss for me, kiss for you, uh-huh.
00:01:41Number 49. Charles Barkley, the NBA on TNT.
00:01:46Having been on the show multiple times, Charles Barkley is one of the funniest athletes to host SNL.
00:01:52He also knows how to poke fun at himself.
00:01:54Memphis is a good one. One time I was there, I ate ribs.
00:02:04That's it? Shaq, that story was terrible.
00:02:07The only thing worse than that story is your neck beard.
00:02:12In this parody of Inside the NBA, the Hall of Famer chooses to play Shaquille O'Neal instead of himself.
00:02:18He spars with Kenan Thompson's impression in an accurate parody of the show.
00:02:22Why is there an asterisk next to your time, Charles?
00:02:25Uh, because I got arrested.
00:02:28Luckily, I'm Charles Barkley, so I told a couple stories, took a couple photos, and they let me go.
00:02:33That's because people love you, Charles Barkley.
00:02:37That's right. That is true.
00:02:39There's also some skillful work by Jay Farrow and Bill Hader, with the latter offering up a funny line.
00:02:45Hader's words cause an awkward pause that the other three end up laughing about.
00:02:50Raw black friends.
00:02:56All right, let's take a break. When we return, I'll try to show some highlights while Charles tries to eat
00:03:02a hundred saltines in one minute.
00:03:04Barkley does some underrated work here, impersonating O'Neal and giving the sketch one of its best moments.
00:03:10Number 48. Chris Pine. Star Trek Lost Episode.
00:03:14It isn't the first time they've spoofed Star Trek, but this one does have a standout moment.
00:03:20Chris Pine takes on a Captain Kirk impression as Bobby Moynihan's Vulcan wreaks havoc.
00:03:25The character Spocko throws off the crew, leading to a line from Sulu.
00:03:29Hey, how you doing?
00:03:32The name's Spocko, reporting for duty over here.
00:03:35I was in the wrong hallway, I opened the door, and I almost got sucked out into space.
00:03:41Now that's a Star Trek.
00:03:44Production designer Akira Yoshimura steps in as the helmsman that shakes up the scene.
00:03:49His dry delivery causes Pine to briefly break, taking this parody to undiscovered country.
00:03:55Yeah, we've never seen him before. It's weird.
00:03:59Oh, come on!
00:04:02Sulu, don't be illogical over here. What are you doing?
00:04:04I'm sorry, but we've got no other choice.
00:04:07Yoshimura's presence only gives the sketch another reason to re-watch it.
00:04:10While the host keeps going, he does have a few seconds before the cast helps to patch everything up.
00:04:16There's also the end dance to bring everything home.
00:04:19Where are the cool kids go?
00:04:22Oh, do I stand on my pizza!
00:04:24Welcome to Pizza Beach!
00:04:27Now that's a pizza!
00:04:30Number 47. Joe Montana and Walter Payton.
00:04:34Church Chat. Joe Montana and Walter Payton.
00:04:36Taking a gamble on two NFL superstars, SNL let Joe Montana and Walter Payton host an episode back in 1987.
00:04:44Their work on the field somehow translated to some fun sketches like this church chat.
00:04:49Well, the center snaps the ball.
00:04:51Oh, oh, is that when a heavyset gentleman squats down and passes the pigskin between his thighs, where your hands
00:04:57are nestled near his bulbous, naughty place?
00:05:05The church lady asks her guests about footfall, using some descriptive language to liven up the action.
00:05:11This leads Joe Montana to break at the graphic assembly of words.
00:05:14Now, do I hear you correctly, Joey?
00:05:17You make a pass at a tight end who likes to go deep and long, and this is how you
00:05:22score.
00:05:27That's correct.
00:05:29Well, isn't that special?
00:05:32As the questions get more wacky, the hosts endure some hilarious references to their sport.
00:05:38Walter Payton also has a second to laugh as Montana prepares for a demonstration.
00:05:43With a religious woman ready to hike, the quarterback even pinches Dana Carvey's iconic character.
00:05:48Here he comes!
00:05:50Okay, okay, Wally, I'm gonna fake you out.
00:05:53I may go this way, or I may go this way.
00:05:55I just don't know.
00:05:55Oh, you don't know either.
00:05:56Oh, oh, look, it's Satan!
00:06:00Number 46.
00:06:01Adam Sandler.
00:06:03Sandler Family Reunion.
00:06:04Over the last few decades, SNL brought back the concept of the Celebrity Family Reunion.
00:06:10This time, Adam Sandler enters the scene as cast members do impressions of him.
00:06:14Adam, I was so excited when I heard you were coming, I went,
00:06:18I know, I know, it's been forever.
00:06:21How have you guys been?
00:06:22Eh, trying to get my real estate license right now.
00:06:25Who knows?
00:06:26We shall see who!
00:06:29Great, great, man.
00:06:30Good luck.
00:06:30After hearing so many different impersonations,
00:06:33Sandler encounters Jimmy Fallon as another family member.
00:06:37They converse in a gibberish that breaks the host.
00:06:39Both saluting and poking fun at the comedian's delivery,
00:06:42these performers entertain themselves with their zany energy.
00:06:57They might be professionals until they're given the opportunity to mess with the scene.
00:07:02Thankfully for the viewers, this sketch flies off the rails at just the right point.
00:07:06Hold on your yarmulke, here come the Hanukkah,
00:07:12for so much yarmulke, pushing a break the Hanukkah.
00:07:17Number 45, Lizzo, Trivia Game Show.
00:07:21There have been an endless series of game show sketches on SNL.
00:07:24For this trivia quiz, Lizzo is the contestant that's confidently wrong and opinionated.
00:07:29This New York City airport was named after the 35th president of the United States.
00:07:35Robert Kennedy Airport.
00:07:38Ooh, that's actually incorrect.
00:07:40No, it's not. I was just there.
00:07:43Well, that's still wrong, Nicole.
00:07:46She's frequently getting into it with Kenan Thompson as the scene becomes an extended argument.
00:07:50After the host buzzes in later, she flubs a line and giggles.
00:07:54Ego Wodum is quick to carry on with the script even after the notable gaffe.
00:07:59What? Nicole!
00:08:00Well, we all be mayor no more. Could I be mayor?
00:08:05No.
00:08:06Okay, so a woman can't be mayor of gang town?
00:08:09The singer laughs, composes herself, and then jumps back into this antagonistic setup.
00:08:15We have to commend the guest performer for her ability to snap back into character.
00:08:19I'm the new mayor, and the first thing I'm doing is putting us in a better hotel with a Nespresso
00:08:24machine.
00:08:26And fluffy towels.
00:08:28Look, y'all gonna burn up the batteries on them buzzers.
00:08:39With his impression of Harry Carey, Will Ferrell could seemingly go anywhere he wanted.
00:08:45The character allows him to talk about anything from baseball to the limits of outer space.
00:08:50Do you want to go to Mars with a dead guy and a sandwich, yes or no?
00:08:58Um, no.
00:09:00Yeah, you're right, it probably wouldn't work out.
00:09:03But it doesn't hurt to be a dreamer.
00:09:05If we didn't dream, we wouldn't have the space shuttle.
00:09:09Joan Allen appears as guest Linda Hamm, ready to discuss NASA until the conversation takes a turn into food territory.
00:09:16Ferrell's method performance goes so deep that it's hard not to be transfixed by him.
00:09:21He eventually reaches an absurd peak, leading Allen to crumble under the pressure.
00:09:26Also, if we didn't dream, our brains would devour themselves in madness and paranoia.
00:09:32The Viet Cong knew that.
00:09:35That's why they use sleep deprivation as a form of torture.
00:09:43Her laughs accentuate another skillful and crazed appearance from a sports broadcasting legend.
00:09:49We're happy that their discussion of ham and paranoia went completely off the rails.
00:09:54Oh, thanks, Pete.
00:09:55That's actually 8 o'clock Eastern Time.
00:09:58I'm still gonna eat a planet.
00:10:00See you then!
00:10:01Comes when!
00:10:02Comes when!
00:10:11When a possible hire shows up, Will Ferrell's boss makes the guy feel at home.
00:10:16This includes a few shocking episodes where the superior harms his employees.
00:10:20God, Raymond!
00:10:21I'm sorry.
00:10:26Office politics.
00:10:28Sometimes I think this place is like Ally McBeal.
00:10:32Is this how you deal with your employees?
00:10:36Pierce Brosnan watches it all happen, smiling his way through this dark sketch.
00:10:40Ferrell's character then attacks one of his underlings with a trident.
00:10:44Brosnan's guest watches the bloody confrontation, breaking as he covers his mouth.
00:10:49Oh, Scott Jurgensen!
00:10:51I love it!
00:10:53I love it!
00:10:54I am actually gonna murder you!
00:11:03The James Bond actor seems entertained to just be along for the ride.
00:11:08Ferrell is perfect as a rageaholic, once again breaking the host in the violent climax.
00:11:13The blood flying everywhere only adds to this aggressive sketch.
00:11:17Now balance it out.
00:11:19I'm just thinking about it.
00:11:20I don't, I just don't think I wanna work here.
00:11:23Fair enough!
00:11:24Number 42.
00:11:25Sean William Scott.
00:11:27Short shorts for the USA.
00:11:28Yes, Will Ferrell's fault again.
00:11:30In a show of his patriotism, office worker Dale arrives for a meeting in some limited wardrobe.
00:11:36The shorts.
00:11:37The shirt.
00:11:39I thought this week we were wearing, you know, little items to show our patriotism.
00:11:44Sean William Scott has to maintain order despite Will Ferrell's outrageous appearance.
00:11:49Once the SNL star puts his feet up, he runs the risk of letting it all hang out.
00:11:54Scott attempts to keep his cool as his co-stars start to lose it.
00:11:57But in a new round of hirings, we need another.
00:12:00You know, I mean, that's my two cents.
00:12:10What?
00:12:11What?
00:12:12What?
00:12:13All right, my crew.
00:12:15That's enough.
00:12:16This is just too distracting.
00:12:18The host seems about ready to burst.
00:12:20With others like Seth Meyers and Rachel Dratch hiding their faces, Ferrell knows how to draw
00:12:25some reactions out of his scene partners.
00:12:27Keeping up the pace, this star player and the others help to create an all-timer concept.
00:12:32You're the best in the biz, Dale.
00:12:37True.
00:12:39Still, you gotta admit, this is one fantastically handsome bulge, huh?
00:12:44Get out of here.
00:12:46USA?
00:12:48Get out of here, Dale.
00:12:50Number 41.
00:12:51Chance the Rapper, Judge Barry.
00:12:54Enjoying his time on the bench, Chance the Rapper is a shoo-in for his own judge show.
00:12:58This sketch gives him a chance to sentence all kinds of misfits and oddballs.
00:13:02The only reason I'm up in here is because this woman is trying to have sexual penetrations
00:13:06on me, man.
00:13:07Wait, no, no, no.
00:13:07Excuse me?
00:13:08You know I got that magic stick, baby.
00:13:10Okay, you're disgusting.
00:13:11Get him out of here.
00:13:12Judgment is for the plaintiff.
00:13:13Next case.
00:13:14As the courtroom doors keep opening, Judge Barry gets quicker with his gavel.
00:13:19Bowen Yang's character seems to be the last straw as the rapper finally drops the act.
00:13:23Guilty.
00:13:24Yeah.
00:13:30All right, can we do one with normal people?
00:13:33Hiding his reaction, the host doesn't let his laughter bury this sketch.
00:13:37He's convincing underneath the mustache and not afraid to let his guard down.
00:13:41On his next hosting stint, we hope he makes a return visit to this kooky court.
00:13:45Sir, do you have this woman's earrings too?
00:13:48Wait, these?
00:13:50If they were a gift.
00:13:52Guilty.
00:13:53All right, I need a newborn break.
00:13:55Let's take a quick reset.
00:13:57Number 40.
00:13:58Finn Wolfhard, Space Emperor.
00:14:00Sitting on a throne, Finn Wolfhard plays a galactic ruler well.
00:14:04He's then confronted by his servant.
00:14:06Ready with loads of dishes, Mikey Day's character can't stop feeding his master.
00:14:11Does it pain you to be...
00:14:12Another one, Sire.
00:14:15Yes.
00:14:17I love to watch you chew.
00:14:19And I love you.
00:14:21I think I'm good on those.
00:14:23Are you sure, Sire?
00:14:24Yes, I think I'm now...
00:14:25Are you sure?
00:14:26I need to get back to business.
00:14:27Yes, Sire.
00:14:28Wolfhard is a true professional as he eats and reads his lines.
00:14:32His overzealous co-star keeps the food coming, leading the overwhelmed host to gag.
00:14:38That's very heavy.
00:14:41Yes, they are double-button.
00:14:43Okay, yes, but let's put a pin in those.
00:14:46Yes.
00:14:49Even after all of that, the guest performer maintains his focus.
00:14:53He laughs and manages to stop choking in order to finish the scene.
00:14:57We have to commend the Stranger Things star for his efforts.
00:15:00Defying death and Day's pushy performance, the actor proves his worth during this hosting gig.
00:15:05Too much melted boo-boo fruit.
00:15:08But 49 more flavors await, Sire.
00:15:11Absolutely not.
00:15:12We're suspending the delights.
00:15:15Okay?
00:15:17No, I said suspend.
00:15:19I love my delights.
00:15:21You know I love them.
00:15:22I'm very pro delights.
00:15:24Number 39, James McAvoy, New Orleans Vacation.
00:15:28This sketch taps into a specific vibe that surrounds annoying people.
00:15:32Employing some funny accents, James McAvoy and Heidi Gardner regale their friends with some ridiculous stories.
00:15:38Why don't you tell him the story?
00:15:40Which one?
00:15:41Maybe the one about Norlands?
00:15:42Yeah, yeah, the Norlands one.
00:15:44McAvoy does a great job holding back his Scottish brogue, but he's unable to stop laughing.
00:15:49Kenan Thompson trips him up at one point and the dam practically bursts.
00:15:53Her boobs swung wide, one point in east, one point in straight up.
00:15:59Up?
00:16:01Straight up?
00:16:03Very novelist.
00:16:05Anyway, anyway, she goes like this.
00:16:08Gardner gives an amazing performance, helping guide the scene through rocky waters.
00:16:13The host smiles again later, likely overwhelmed by the comical references to New Orleans.
00:16:18He looks to be having the time of his life whilst showing off his vocal skills.
00:16:23Authentic Norlands magic, baby.
00:16:28The true Norlands born and raised experience.
00:16:33Uber's here.
00:16:34Yeah, our friendship has been terminated.
00:16:37Number 38, Ana de Armas, Lisa from Temecula, Wedding.
00:16:42Pushing her luck as a guest, Lisa from Temecula brings her crazed energy to a wedding reception.
00:16:47This includes an exchange with Ana de Armas' unsuspecting character.
00:16:51As a salad gets tossed, the plates and glasses become unlikely projectiles.
00:16:56This table is ruining our special day.
00:16:59Oh, because we gay?
00:17:02No.
00:17:03We're right in the middle of our first dance.
00:17:06Well, then why are you over here talking to me, dance bitch?
00:17:11Lisa pushes her fellow guests to their breaking point until the comedic finale.
00:17:16The host also breaks after the table tosses, turns, and salad hits the floor.
00:17:21Eggo Wodum's dedicated performance goes places you'd never expect, sending de Armas into a giggling fit.
00:17:27This is my floor right here.
00:17:28And she better not have one dry leaf in that damn bowl.
00:17:33Toast!
00:17:37We love the insane energy that cracks up multiple performers with a reception from hell.
00:17:43Where is she from again?
00:17:45Temecula!
00:17:50Number 37.
00:17:51Tiffany Haddish.
00:17:53Whiskers Are We with Tiffany Haddish.
00:17:55Working with animals poses all sorts of problems.
00:17:58For this recurring sketch, Kate McKinnon and a guest have to show off some cats.
00:18:02Tiffany Haddish joins the fray this time, handling the unruly felines with some skill.
00:18:08This is Boingo.
00:18:09Boingo is addicted to PCP.
00:18:14Pets, cuddles, and purrs.
00:18:16Also hair on.
00:18:18I shouldn't laugh, but I do.
00:18:19I do.
00:18:20There's one cat in particular that gives the duo trouble.
00:18:23Haddish does her best to adjust, while also realizing that she's dealing with a furry diva.
00:18:29It's not long into the sketch until the guest performer looks at McKinnon and breaks.
00:18:34Many of these rescue cats come from owners who didn't value their specialness.
00:18:46After a collection of eclectic pets, a hairless kitty arrives to throw a wrench in the script.
00:18:51The host steps back as her co-star tries to wrangle the four-legged wild child.
00:18:56We love watching it all go down, wondering what surprise will happen next.
00:19:05Bye, Ruby.
00:19:06Thank you for coming.
00:19:07Number 36.
00:19:09John Mulaney.
00:19:10Five-Timers Club.
00:19:11Celebrating his entry into the Five-Timers Club, John Mulaney met with many of his celebrity peers.
00:19:17This all-star cast includes Steve Martin, Paul Rudd, Tina Fey, and later Conan O'Brien.
00:19:23The former late-night host interrupts the scene to talk about writing and his looks,
00:19:28but fumbles a few lines while reading the cue cards.
00:19:30John and I were never supposed to be on TV.
00:19:33We're hideous.
00:19:35Right?
00:19:35Say it, John.
00:19:36I guess.
00:19:37We are.
00:19:38And we're here and we're taking what's ours.
00:19:40When it's taken by that horn, it's ours!
00:19:42This causes Mulaney to break into a delightful smile.
00:19:45O'Brien chugs through the sketch with his funny delivery, making the younger host even happier.
00:19:50This is very, very special.
00:19:52I was in the very first Five-Timers Club special, uh, Club Back Specs thing.
00:19:58When I was a writer here!
00:20:02With so much talent on one stage, it's nice to know that these performers don't take themselves too seriously.
00:20:09Yeah, yeah, come on, let's give him his jacket.
00:20:11All right, Paul, give him your jacket.
00:20:15Oh, man, you know, it was fun while it lasted.
00:20:18Number 35, Woody Harrelson, Inside the Beltway.
00:20:22For this political roundtable, pundits discuss topics while jumping back in time.
00:20:27Each time this happens, there's supposed to be a wardrobe change to account for the flashbacks.
00:20:32This also requires some stagehands to be at the ready.
00:20:35Mm-hmm.
00:20:36No.
00:20:37He gonna win.
00:20:44When one of the crew members enters too early, Aidy Bryant and her co-stars start to break.
00:20:50This includes Woody Harrelson as one of the eager pundits.
00:20:54It's one of those humble mistakes that's both entertaining and eye-opening.
00:20:58I believe, I believe that the arc of, no, I believe that the arc of the moral universe.
00:21:10In an unintentional look behind the scenes, this sketch is much more memorable thanks to the costume demands.
00:21:16Harrelson giggles to himself, clearly amused by everything that's happened.
00:21:21Hear, hear.
00:21:22Well said, Denise.
00:21:24Yes.
00:21:25Well said, indeed.
00:21:27Number 34, Josh Brolin, Lisa from Temecula, Sports Bar.
00:21:32It's tough to do this concept without somebody breaking.
00:21:35Lisa from Temecula returns in this sketch, but this time she's tormenting a sports bar.
00:21:40But then, I see this freaking snake slithering out of the bathroom.
00:21:45You're talking about refills that's free, and I see six penny colliders on the bill.
00:21:49Okay, okay, Lisa, Lisa, I think it's gone.
00:21:51Can you just stop?
00:21:52Josh Brolin joins the fray as a friend trying to make sense of his dinner guest.
00:21:56As the tension builds, Eggo Wodum's character loves to call everyone out.
00:22:00This leads to some hilarious dialogue and breaking.
00:22:04Eventually, Bowen Yang completely drops his character, and Brolin follows soon after.
00:22:09Get up!
00:22:10Hey, don't talk to my sister like that!
00:22:13Dana, I got this.
00:22:15You know, when I look, when I see, when I look at Lisa, I see a very layered woman who
00:22:22isn't always aware of her surroundings.
00:22:24Say that!
00:22:25Wodum's work provides a splash of insanity to an otherwise normal situation.
00:22:30If SNL ever brings this one back, we're pretty sure that the next host will also break.
00:22:35I paid my way.
00:22:38Aw, hold up!
00:22:39This wing ain't done.
00:22:41That's it.
00:22:42I'm suing.
00:22:42I told them to cook, mommy!
00:22:48Number 33.
00:22:49Dana Carvey.
00:22:50George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush go hunting.
00:22:53As one of the best cast members from the 1980s and 1990s, Dana Carvey always serves up a good
00:23:00time.
00:23:00His impression of George H.W. Bush became a strong point of his original tenure.
00:23:05Nah, it's okay, son.
00:23:06Why don't we just stop here on this old log?
00:23:09Your old man's getting a little tired.
00:23:12Wanna have a seat?
00:23:13No way.
00:23:13We gotta get after that deer.
00:23:15I wanna kill it.
00:23:16Sit down.
00:23:17Sit down, son.
00:23:18All right, just for a second.
00:23:20It also provides a key addition to this sketch opposite Will Ferrell's George W. Bush.
00:23:24The two presidents go hunting, but then a missed slap makes things a little more interesting.
00:23:30Carvey and Ferrell roll with the punches as the lack of a sound effect leaves them cold.
00:23:34Put him down.
00:23:39Almost hit you for a second.
00:23:42Were you trying to hit me?
00:23:43Well, no, there was a fly right near your head and it went like that.
00:23:47Bringing their comedic timing and quick thinking, both comedians glide through the hiccup while
00:23:52only briefly breaking.
00:23:54It's so smooth that you can almost imagine them drying it up like that.
00:23:57Well, I wanna talk to you man to man.
00:24:03Sure.
00:24:04Sure thing, Dad.
00:24:05What's up?
00:24:06Well, it looks like it's really gonna happen.
00:24:09Number 32, Chris Farley, Matt Foley at the gym.
00:24:13During his hosting gig at SNL, Chris Farley gave one final performance that included a few
00:24:18highlights.
00:24:19He brought back his motivational speaker for a chaotic trip to the gym.
00:24:25You're gonna be our fitness instructor?
00:24:27Listen, hard body, I don't give a rat's behind.
00:24:31I'm here to tell you people that as you get out there in the real world, you're gonna find
00:24:37out that you're not going to amount to jack squat.
00:24:41Taking over a spin class, Matt Foley is as goofy as ever.
00:24:45Farley then chuckles his way through a wild workout.
00:24:48This includes making his co-stars like Tim Meadows laugh as well.
00:24:51As long as you're wearing an athletic supporter, everything's gonna be okie-dokie.
00:24:57However, I've forgotten mine is kind of a moot point.
00:25:03Gross.
00:25:04You cannot be serious.
00:25:06I just wish you two dolls would bring it down a notch!
00:25:11Bringing back the physical performance style that made him an icon, the host knows how to
00:25:16turn this into a one-man show.
00:25:18He's one of the most gifted entertainers ever, fighting through laughs to deliver some comedic
00:25:23thrills.
00:25:24Even as he spills coffee all over himself, he finds a way to persevere.
00:25:29Now it's time to take a little bit of a drink-ski-poo.
00:25:33So, we don't...
00:25:42Number 31.
00:25:43Fred Armisen, New Girlfriend
00:25:46When Regine comes to a party, you have to expect the unexpected.
00:25:50This is always the case for Fred Armisen's recurring character.
00:25:54She's the party-goer that never holds back.
00:26:08Did you guys notice anything that time?
00:26:10Armisen pushes the limits of personal space, stretching out on the couch.
00:26:14This leads to multiple breaks from him and his scene partners.
00:26:18Oh yeah, she's ok.
00:26:20She's more than ok.
00:26:21Her body is like a heart that only I know how to play, and only my touch is what she
00:26:27responds
00:26:29It's an incredible showcase for some physical comedy, but with the tall order of having
00:26:34to stay in character.
00:26:36The former cast member and special guest Jason Sudeikis make it almost impossible to remain
00:26:41calm.
00:26:41As Vanessa Bayer finally loses it, this sketch goes into the pantheon of hilarious SNL scenes.
00:26:47Is there any more food?
00:26:50I need to get something down my throat to fight what is coming up.
00:26:59Number 30.
00:27:00Shane Gillis, Church on Vacation
00:27:02An Ohio family finds themselves on vacation in Jamaica, trying to fit in with the locals
00:27:08at church.
00:27:09Under the blood, me say, under the blood.
00:27:11Church.
00:27:11Under the blood, me say, me under the blood.
00:27:14Jesus, you can cover me.
00:27:15Under the blood, God.
00:27:17Shane Gillis plays a dad who tries to speak with an accent and teach his kids a lesson.
00:27:21With the comedian speaking in Jamaican Patois, he breaks after diving headfirst into the new
00:27:27voice.
00:27:27Honey, you don't even know what he's talking about.
00:27:30Hush now, child.
00:27:31Me trying to hear the good words.
00:27:35What was that?
00:27:36I don't know.
00:27:36Let me worship.
00:27:37Gillis seems to stop and realize what he sounds like in a self-aware moment.
00:27:42This leads to some giggling from the comic, with the performer carrying on despite the
00:27:46laughter.
00:27:47Father is right.
00:27:48Jesus was upon the cross, died for our sins, and three days later, they're going to raise
00:27:52up into heaven.
00:27:54Ricky!
00:27:58What are you saying?
00:28:01It's a funny glimpse into the host's performance that's even more entertaining, given the mix-up.
00:28:10When controversial mascots are being fired, the Allstate guy stands up in protest.
00:28:15Dave Chappelle plays the advertising spokesman and immediately loses it.
00:28:29We're not surprised either, considering his deepened voice and outrageous lines.
00:28:34He does find a way to compose himself, but it doesn't last long because Count Chocula shows
00:28:39up.
00:28:40Chappelle breaks character again to point out Pete Davidson's features, causing even more
00:28:45laughter.
00:28:45Look at those big, chocolatey lips behind them fangs.
00:28:50Big old, fat lips.
00:28:51Seriously?
00:28:53America?
00:28:55Look at Pete Davidson's lips.
00:28:57The comedian is having so much fun here that you almost forget you're watching network
00:29:01TV.
00:29:02His loose energy might derail the scene, but it also gives it two of its funniest moments.
00:29:07Some Italian, then we'll put you on some spaghetti, you chocolate b***h.
00:29:12All right, that's enough.
00:29:13You're all fired except for Allstate guy.
00:29:15Thank you very much.
00:29:17Number 28.
00:29:18Keegan-Michael Key.
00:29:20The Muppet Show.
00:29:21Ever wonder what would happen to Statler and Waldorf in the real world?
00:29:24This take on The Muppet Show sends two aggressive security guards after the hecklers with hilarious
00:29:29results.
00:29:30Finally, something entertaining is happening.
00:29:33Hey, shut up.
00:29:36Not gonna tell you again, fellas.
00:29:38Just shut up.
00:29:41What happens next is up to you.
00:29:43Keegan-Michael Key and Kenan Thompson attack the characters, resulting in some breaking
00:29:47from both comedians.
00:29:49To be fair, the puppeteering is so real that it's hard not to laugh at it.
00:29:53Key's intense performance stops for a moment as a Muppet cowers in fear.
00:29:58Just over here being disrespectful.
00:29:59Yeah, just drink some water, man, and cool off.
00:30:03Ooh.
00:30:04Ooh.
00:30:05Yeah, okay.
00:30:07I'm gonna get some water.
00:30:08This blend of violence and comedy creates the perfect cocktail for some funny diversions.
00:30:13The host leans into the absurd scene, giving it another highlight when he can't take it
00:30:18anymore.
00:30:19Hey, Kramer!
00:30:20Kramer!
00:30:22What?
00:30:23Hey, Kramer!
00:30:26You stupid!
00:30:27Oh!
00:30:28That's gonna be fair!
00:30:30That's gonna be fair!
00:30:30That's gonna be fair!
00:30:31Number 27.
00:30:32Alec Baldwin, Platinum Lounge.
00:30:35This funny sketch shows audiences where veteran SNL hosts hang out.
00:30:39Alec Baldwin enters the exclusive lounge, fighting with Steve Martin and getting drinks from Martin
00:30:44Short.
00:30:44Hey, wait.
00:30:46Isn't that John Goodman?
00:30:47No.
00:30:48Oh!
00:30:51Hey!
00:30:52I was in sweaty balls!
00:30:56The real surprise comes when Paul McCartney shows up at the end.
00:31:00Mr. Baldwin, you're wanted in the studio.
00:31:07With what looks to be a genuine reaction, Baldwin can't believe he's standing next to a Beatle.
00:31:13A mixture of shock and pure happiness washes over his face.
00:31:17At that point, he's clearly loving the moment as McCartney takes in the applause break.
00:31:21It is Paul Simon!
00:31:24It is Paul Simon!
00:31:25I gotta run!
00:31:27Hey, great to see you, champ!
00:31:28You gotta run!
00:31:29You too!
00:31:30We would have loved to trade places with the actor for the surreal scene.
00:31:34Number 26.
00:31:36Kieran Culkin, Cancelling Cable.
00:31:38For anybody who's tried to cancel their cable subscription, this scene might be a little too accurate.
00:31:43Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that.
00:31:46Before we begin, would you like to add a telephone landline to your current package for $12.99 a month?
00:31:54No, I'm good. I just need to cancel the cable.
00:31:56Kieran Culkin's character tries to break free from his contract, gets transferred, and finally speaks to Spectrum itself.
00:32:03The Succession star covers his face as Bowen Yang's character speaks.
00:32:07Hi, who is this?
00:32:08I am Spectrum.
00:32:12The source, the nexus, the provider.
00:32:18This last-minute twist breaks Culkin thanks to Yang's ridiculous voice, forcing him to hide his reaction.
00:32:24The entire concept is hilarious without the added effect of the host losing it.
00:32:29Not only does the sketch have a funny build-up, it also features an enjoyable mistake from its lead performer.
00:32:35I interest you in six months of free Disney Plus to keep your service.
00:32:39No, just cancel it.
00:32:41As you wish. Enjoy your new Spectrum landline.
00:32:46Number 25, James Franco, Spelling Bee.
00:32:50Thanks to a disturbed moderator, this Spelling Bee is anything but normal.
00:32:55Your word is berate.
00:32:57Could you use it in a sentence?
00:32:59Berate. I'm dead inside because my stepfather used to berate me with insults.
00:33:05James Franco's character gives contestants increasingly strange answers to their questions.
00:33:10This culminates in the actor having to say little pig boy with a straight face.
00:33:15When trying to give the specifics of the phrase, Franco can't hold it any longer.
00:33:19Mistress hates her little pig boy.
00:33:21I'm her dirty little pig boy.
00:33:24Please stand on me with your boots on.
00:33:26Little pig boy.
00:33:28Pete Davidson also breaks in another funny moment from this sketch.
00:33:31The host delivers the definition and country of origin, but he's still full of smiles.
00:33:36Country of origin?
00:33:39Little pig boy comes from the dirt.
00:33:42He's a weaselly little mud grub who needs to be stood on.
00:33:46Little pig boy.
00:33:48It's even more hilarious that the lead performer has to be serious, making it even better when he starts to
00:33:54crack.
00:33:55Number 24, Scarlett Johansson, Hollywood Dish with Scarlett Johansson.
00:34:00During an interview, actress Scarlett Johansson endures the wrath of two excited journalists.
00:34:05Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader's interviewers eventually get crazier with a spit take.
00:34:10Just tell us how excited you are for the next and probably final season of The Jersey Shore.
00:34:16You know, I've never seen the show, so...
00:34:21With Slushy flying everywhere, the entire cast laughs at the resulting chaos.
00:34:27The Black Widow star's reaction shot finds her hiding a smile.
00:34:30If we were trapped in the scene with two comic geniuses, we'd probably be doing much worse.
00:34:36Hader and Wiig try desperately to keep going and trip up their co-star in the process.
00:34:41You have great skin.
00:34:43What is your secret?
00:34:47Well, I make sure I never go to bed with makeup on and I live for a sunblock and...
00:34:52It's a glorious mess that you have to see to believe, with everyone involved having the time of their lives.
00:34:58I cannot believe I came on this stupid show.
00:35:00I swear I'm gonna fire my publicist.
00:35:02Thank you for a junkie time.
00:35:05Oh, she was cool.
00:35:06She is so cool.
00:35:07Cool shit.
00:35:08I wanna hang out with her.
00:35:14How do you even explain this idea?
00:35:17Will Ferrell is playing radio legend Harry Carey and talking to Jeff Goldblum's doctor about space.
00:35:23Much like the majority of people watching this sketch,
00:35:26Goldblum finally breaks after enduring Ferrell's zany character.
00:35:30We all know that the moon is not made of green cheese.
00:35:35Yes, that's true, Harry.
00:35:37But what if it were made of barbecue spare ribs?
00:35:40Would you eat it then?
00:35:41The host almost looks like he's trying to make sense of the sketch in real time.
00:35:45Opposite a comedic icon, the acclaimed actor understandably has trouble keeping a straight face.
00:35:51I'm confused.
00:35:52It's a simple question, doctor.
00:35:54Would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs?
00:35:59Well, I don't know how to answer that.
00:36:01The amazing impression of Carey is more than enough to throw off a seasoned performer.
00:36:06Along with important questions about eating the moon,
00:36:09this scene is worth it just for Goldblum's slip-up.
00:36:12What about this?
00:36:13If you had a choice between being the top scientist in your field
00:36:17or getting mad cow disease, what would it be?
00:36:21Of course I would choose to be the top scientist in my field.
00:36:25Number 22. Will Ferrell. Cut for time. Cast list.
00:36:29In this sketch set in high school, Will Ferrell plays a dramatic director
00:36:33who's set to reveal his casting choices.
00:36:36The comedian then bumps into Aidy Bryant and the laughs follow soon after.
00:36:40Back up, please. Back up.
00:36:43What are you doing?
00:36:49Ferrell tries to hide his break, but it's already too late in a hilarious mishap.
00:36:54Several of the other cast members follow suit in a chaotic turn of events.
00:36:58Please?
00:37:00And our tech director dead.
00:37:08This is going to be a f*** to like, but I was promised new gels, so stay tuned.
00:37:12It doesn't help that the host's every move is funny,
00:37:14putting his co-stars on edge the whole time.
00:37:17Even former SNL legends crack up, giving this amusing look at theater kids' even more replay value.
00:37:24Yes! Gorgeous, sweet chaos.
00:37:27Number 21. Steve Martin and Martin Short. The Holiday Train.
00:37:32You don't need to know the film White Christmas to enjoy this wacky sketch.
00:37:36Well, I'm glad I sat with you three. You seem like a fun group.
00:37:39You know what? We are fun. Thank you for noticing that.
00:37:42Steve Martin and Martin Short are two passengers on a train, breaking into song to talk snow.
00:37:48Martin starts into his off-key verse and sends Short for a loop.
00:37:52Both comedians begin to crumble, with the latter even motioning to his ear in a funny bit of improvisation.
00:37:58We've never seen it. Not in person, anyway.
00:38:01Snow. I want to go outside and touch a bunch of snow.
00:38:08These two professionals have been working for so long that they know how to roll with a mistake.
00:38:13Through the power of song, they find a way to work through the pain.
00:38:17It's also great to see they both can rib each other on live TV.
00:38:21And dream of snow.
00:38:26Snow. Snow. Snow.
00:38:32Number 20. Brittany Murphy. The Leather Man.
00:38:35A sketch starring notorious breaker Jimmy Fallon and some ill-timed sound effects sounds like a recipe for chaos.
00:38:41And that's exactly what a sketch from this episode gives.
00:38:45Can I get you into some leather?
00:38:47Well, these are kind of nice.
00:38:50These are fabulous, actually.
00:38:51Murphy plays a customer interested in purchasing a pair of snakeskin pants.
00:38:56She really sinks her teeth into the comedy and leans into the ridiculousness of the scenario.
00:39:01And props to her, she lasts far longer than we could have.
00:39:05Especially once Horatio Sands enters the scene.
00:39:07Choo-choo!
00:39:15Why did I give him that whip for his birthday?
00:39:18However, she eventually can't hold it back any longer.
00:39:21When she does break, though, she continues the scene so seamlessly that it almost looks like a character quirk rather
00:39:27than genuine laughter.
00:39:29Maybe leather isn't right for me.
00:39:32Number 19. Maya Rudolph. Super Showcase Spokesmodels.
00:39:37Given Rudolph's experience as a former SNL cast member, you might assume she'd have keeping a straight face down to
00:39:43a fine art.
00:39:44And sure, that might be the case.
00:39:46Until she's paired up with Kristen Wiig.
00:39:49It's a real all-in-one!
00:39:50When she returned as host and co-starred in this particularly memorable sketch as a game show spokesmodel, the results
00:39:57were downright tumultuous and utterly hilarious.
00:40:00Their exaggerated accents and ridiculous prizes are enough to make anyone chuckle.
00:40:05That's a chicken man guarantee.
00:40:08If you might like chuckle, you might like chicken!
00:40:11Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig are visibly struggling to keep their composure, along with Rudolph.
00:40:17However, it's Wiig's antics on the golf cart that properly set her off.
00:40:21Not only does Wiig break the set, but she breaks Rudolph, too.
00:40:26That wasn't supposed to happen.
00:40:28Number 18. Jonah Hill. Benihana.
00:40:31Fewer things are funnier than a kid with an old soul.
00:40:35Just ask Jonah Hill.
00:40:36He plays Adam Grossman, a six-year-old who seems possessed by, to quote the actor, a Catskills comedian.
00:40:43Can I get you folks something to drink?
00:40:45Cup of Joe for me, sweetheart, please.
00:40:47And I like my coffee like I like my nannies.
00:40:49Black and bitter.
00:40:51I'm kidding! I'm six!
00:40:53I'll take a fruit punch. Neat!
00:40:55In this segment of the recurring sketch, Adam goes to Benihana with his nanny Lily, played by Leslie Jones.
00:41:01Hill is absolutely hysterical as the overconfident chatty child,
00:41:05so it's hardly surprising that not only does he make Jones break repeatedly,
00:41:09but he can barely hold it together himself.
00:41:12He ain't giving me nothing here! It feels like pulling teeth without a string!
00:41:17How about some chef tricks? That'll lighten the moon. Where's Sushin?
00:41:20He goes above and beyond to bring this colorful character to life.
00:41:24And he does such a stellar job that even he can't help but laugh.
00:41:27I have no idea what that means, but Redemption song!
00:41:34It is his song!
00:41:36Number 17. Drew Barrymore.
00:41:39The Lovers with Barbara and Dave.
00:41:41Barbara, what brings you to the prestigious well-dry arms?
00:41:46The usual.
00:41:47Barrymore is practically an SNL Hall of Famer.
00:41:50She first hosted the show in 1982 when she was just 7 years old and joined the Five-Timers Club
00:41:56in 2007.
00:41:57However, as this sketch proves, experience means nothing when something is just that darn funny.
00:42:03We submitted to his ravenous desires.
00:42:07As the three of us became one with the great eagle spirit.
00:42:12Let's be honest, Will Ferrell entered this sketch determined to crack up his scene mates, and he succeeds.
00:42:18In fact, his and Rachel Dratch's commitment to their characters makes it impossible to remain poker-faced.
00:42:24Just look at Barrymore's expression.
00:42:26By the end of the sketch, she can no longer contain her laughter.
00:42:30And who can blame her?
00:42:31Lava.
00:42:33Would you care to see my bed adorned with hibiscus petals?
00:42:37And my photo of me?
00:42:41And Gina Davis.
00:42:43Gina Davis, that sounds nice.
00:42:45Number 16. Christina Applegate.
00:42:47Matt Foley, Van Down by the River.
00:42:50Take everything you know about motivational speakers and toss it out the window.
00:42:54You got Matt Foley.
00:42:55With every clunky movement or emphatic cry of...
00:42:59And I live in a van down by the river.
00:43:02Chris Farley knew how to make everyone cackle, and the cast was no exception.
00:43:07According to David Spade, Farley hid some of his characters' quirks, like readjusting his pants, until the live show, with
00:43:14the likely intention of surprising and breaking his castmates.
00:43:17He succeeded.
00:43:22Spade and host Christina Applegate can barely hide their giggles.
00:43:26And the more physical Farley gets, the more they struggle.
00:43:29We imagine Matt Foley could still hear their laughter in his van down by the river.
00:43:43When you think of SNL actor's breaking character, we imagine this springs to mind.
00:43:49John Mulaney would famously add new jokes at the last minute to make Hater break as Stefan.
00:43:53In one particular occasion, he whispers in his ear, making him fall apart completely.
00:43:59Thank you, Sean.
00:44:04However, arguably the highlight of Hater's hosting stint was Girlfriend's Game Night, where he plays Horace, the older husband to
00:44:12Cecily Strong's genie.
00:44:13Horace isn't quite in control of his wheelchair, providing ample hilarity.
00:44:18Slow, Horace.
00:44:20Slow, slow, Horace.
00:44:26Horace, slow, Horace.
00:44:30As he tries to back up, part of the set and Melissa Villasenor moves with him.
00:44:34Naturally, this makes everyone crack up.
00:44:37Hater tries hiding his laughter behind Strong, but he isn't fooling anyone.
00:44:42You should be ashamed of yourselves.
00:44:44This woman is your friend.
00:44:51Number 14, Margot Robbie, Actress Roundtable.
00:44:55Sometimes, a sketch hits a little too close to home.
00:44:59On Margot Robbie's only time hosting the show so far, one of the sketches she did was a spoof of
00:45:04an actress's roundtable discussion, featuring Robbie doing a fairly good Keira Knightley impression.
00:45:10Actually, so great to be here supporting women in film.
00:45:13The other cast members are also playing younger, real actresses, all except for Kate McKinnon, who is playing a fake
00:45:20actress named DeBette Goldry, who is much older and worked during the golden age of Hollywood.
00:45:26It's a pleasure to be alive.
00:45:29The gag is that while all of the younger actresses give standard, fairly boring answers, DeBette tells totally wacky, often
00:45:37inappropriate stories from long ago in her career.
00:45:40Poor Robbie has a tremendously hard time not laughing at her.
00:45:43But hey, it's hard not to laugh at Kate McKinnon.
00:45:50No, we don't. Is that a thing that happens?
00:45:54Number 13, Justin Timberlake, The Barry Gibb Talk Show, Bee Gees Singers.
00:46:00If anyone has proven themselves to be an SNL all-star, it's Justin Timberlake.
00:46:05To join the Five Timers Club, you can't be a slouch in the comedian department.
00:46:09Welcome to the Five Timers Club. We've been expecting you, Mr. Timberlake.
00:46:12Wow.
00:46:13Smoking jacket?
00:46:14Uh, please.
00:46:14But even five-timers fall sometimes.
00:46:18In one of Timberlake's earlier performances on the show, he did a sketch with Jimmy Fallon titled The Barry Gibb
00:46:23Talk Show.
00:46:24In the sketch, Fallon plays the titular Gibb, taking on the singer's signature falsetto and speaking voice.
00:46:30What effect do you think this is going to have home California politics as a whole?
00:46:35As Barry's brother, Robin, Timberlake is hilarious, but sometimes has a hard time, understandably, keeping a straight face at Fallon's
00:46:44antics.
00:46:44The face he makes to try and keep himself from laughing is one for the books.
00:46:55Do you have anything to have?
00:47:05Flubbing your lines in a sketch featuring a PSA-like message from the Right to Extreme Stupidity League might seem
00:47:12like bad timing, but it's incredibly funny.
00:47:15You know, we all can't be brainy like Fern here.
00:47:20Cast member Gilda Radner plays Fern, or is it Lisa?
00:47:24Whatever her name is, she's a few cards short of a full deck.
00:47:27Her friend, played by the host, tries to point this out, only to mess up the line.
00:47:32You're not too bright, are you, Fern?
00:47:35I mean, whatever your name was.
00:47:39Bergen can barely keep it together after that, but when Radner seemingly ad-libs a couple of references to the
00:47:44gaffe, she loses her cool entirely.
00:47:47Extremely stupid people are discriminated against all the time.
00:47:51And I should know, and so should Fern, because we are extremely stupid people.
00:47:59And it takes some time until she's able to regain her composure.
00:48:02We can't think of a more perfectly timed flub.
00:48:06Number 11.
00:48:07Pedro Pascal.
00:48:08Lisa from Temecula.
00:48:10I guess I had two bones.
00:48:14That's so crazy.
00:48:15What are the odds?
00:48:16Ego Wodum gave the most as Lisa from Temecula in this Season 48 sketch.
00:48:21Her all-in commitment as the bold, no-nonsense, yet blissfully oblivious Lisa is next level.
00:48:27But when she starts sawing away at her extra, extra well-done steak, host Pedro Pascal can't even hide his
00:48:33laughter,
00:48:34chortling away as openly as if he was sitting in the audience.
00:48:37I'm about to tear this thing up.
00:48:42When I open the door, he just...
00:48:48Pascal later revealed that he was set off by scene-mate Bowen Yang, who apparently rarely breaks.
00:48:53This sketch was so ridiculously over-the-top and outrageously hilarious,
00:48:58that even the most poker-faced person would feel compelled to at least crack a smile.
00:49:03Poor Pedro, he never even stood a chance.
00:49:06You know what?
00:49:07You know what?
00:49:07Y'all just haven't had it right.
00:49:09I'ma cut y'all a piece.
00:49:10Number 10.
00:49:11Janet Jackson.
00:49:12Cork Soakers.
00:49:14To Janet's credit, it's pretty hard to watch the sketch and not crack a smile.
00:49:18This is where the final step in the bottling process happens,
00:49:22where we prepare all the corks for all the bottles of Brunello that you saw earlier.
00:49:27Jimmy Fallon, Horatio Sands, and other members of the SNL cast play a group of Italian winemakers
00:49:33who are teaching a group of tourists about their craft.
00:49:36I've always actually wondered about that.
00:49:38How do you cork the bottles?
00:49:40Excellent question, Mabella.
00:49:42Throughout the sketch, they all take turns saying the words cork soaker multiple times
00:49:46in very thick Italian accents.
00:49:48We'll give you a moment to figure out what that sounds like.
00:49:51I love soaking a cork.
00:49:53I could soak a cork all night long if they let me.
00:49:57I would have soaked two corks at once.
00:50:01Janet plays one of the tourists and breaks character as she's asking the winemakers
00:50:05how they learned to soak corks.
00:50:07So how did you learn to soak corks?
00:50:11So corks.
00:50:13She flubs a bit, starts to giggle, and things just evolve from there.
00:50:18Number 9, Emily Blunt, Escorts.
00:50:21You'd think a star like Emily Blunt would have hosted Saturday Night Live multiple times,
00:50:25so you might be surprised to learn the actress only has one hosting gig under her belt so far.
00:50:31But I did get to improv a few little things, like, you know, the part where I said,
00:50:35it's me, you know, that was improvised.
00:50:37She did a wonderful job by our standards, but there was one sketch where she sorta lost her cool.
00:50:43In a sketch called Escorts, Blunt and cast member Leslie Jones play two escorts who get
00:50:48very specific about what they will and will not do.
00:50:51I will kiss, but only with this amount of tongue.
00:50:59Blunt mostly keeps it together through the first part of the sketch, but there's a moment towards
00:51:03the end where she has to fake a fall. She pops her head over the couch to say her line,
00:51:08but just can't stop a giggle fit from taking over.
00:51:11Oopsy-doopsy, I mopped it up again!
00:51:15Number 8. Larry David, New Wife
00:51:18Veteran comedians are known for their ability to keep character no matter how funny the situation,
00:51:23so it's a wonderful but rare treat when someone like Larry David can't help but laugh at a sketch.
00:51:29I got married this past weekend.
00:51:31You did what?
00:51:32I met and married a wonderful woman. She's opened up a whole new world to me.
00:51:37David was a writer for SNL during its 10th season and came back years later to play Bernie
00:51:42Sanders during season 41, but it was during one of his hosting stints that he caught a case of
00:51:47the giggles. In a sketch called New Wife, David introduces his friends to his very young new wife,
00:51:53played by Cecily Strong.
00:51:54Yeah, you guys can come, but you gotta bring three friends,
00:51:57and they have to be either buff, cute, or rude. Two out of three.
00:52:00The sketch plays on someone as old as Larry David having to say ridiculous hip lingo,
00:52:04and he seems just as tickled by it as the rest of us.
00:52:08Is everything okay?
00:52:10You got some mad.
00:52:14Yeah, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
00:52:18I took my prep on an empty stomach.
00:52:22Number 7. Jamie Foxx, Maine Justice
00:52:25Saturday Night Live has had some pretty strange running sketches over the years,
00:52:30but one of the oddest has got to be Maine Justice.
00:52:32Okay, y'all take a seat. Y'all take a seat right here, right now.
00:52:36SNL veteran Justin Timberlake once starred in this sketch,
00:52:39but today we want to honor Jamie Foxx's turn.
00:52:43The sketch itself is absolutely ridiculous.
00:52:45The people in a courtroom in Maine act like they're from the Louisiana Bayou,
00:52:49confusing a character who's from out of town.
00:52:51Hey, what the hell is going on here?
00:52:53Okay, all right now. Okay, here we go now.
00:52:56If we're being honest, Jason Sudeikis' accent alone would have probably made us laugh way earlier in the
00:53:02sketch. So kudos to Foxx for holding on as long as he did.
00:53:06But there's one particular quote at the end that involves the words swamp and butt,
00:53:10and Foxx just can't keep it in.
00:53:13I have to tie him up to Uncle Orville's airboat and drag his bare lily-white butt
00:53:19across the swamp to pull out that ass fire.
00:53:27Number 6. Sean Hayes
00:53:29Jeffreys
00:53:30Not many actors are as well-known for a singular character as Sean Hayes is,
00:53:35but Jack from Will and Grace is one of the most indelible sitcom characters of all time.
00:53:39Okay, that's interesting.
00:53:41You'd think maybe you could have told me this, oh, I don't know,
00:53:43before I packed up my entire life.
00:53:45So it makes sense that Hayes would be given a character semi-similar to Jack on his Saturday
00:53:50Night Live stint in 2001. Think Jack, but a little more hipster. In this sketch,
00:53:56Hayes and Jimmy Fallon play a couple of sales clerks at a store called Jeffreys,
00:54:00who mock and belittle every customer who comes in.
00:54:03What? This is a genuine Looney Tunes jacket.
00:54:13Wow, I didn't know Joey Buttafuoco had a garage sale.
00:54:16Hayes mostly keeps it together during the sketch,
00:54:18but when Will Ferrell rolls in on a motorized scooter,
00:54:22well, that's the end of Hayes' straight face.
00:54:24We're going to the Dolce & Gabbana show.
00:54:26How fast can you have your bags packed for Mirage?
00:54:29Number 5. Kevin Hart
00:54:31Barnes & Noble Firing
00:54:32And once again, we get a veteran comedian who can't quite keep it together.
00:54:37But to Kevin Hart's credit,
00:54:39this Barnes & Noble sketch is one of the funniest the show has produced in its later years.
00:54:43Hart plays a manager at a Barnes & Noble store who has to fire one of his employees.
00:54:48Unfortunately, I'm going to have to let somebody go today.
00:54:50Yeah, right!
00:54:51Whoa, what?
00:54:52We know you think it's us!
00:54:54Yeah, you nerds hate us because we work in a cafe!
00:54:57Thinking they're on the chopping block,
00:54:59Cecily Strong and Bobby Moynihan begin insulting their co-workers within an inch of their lives.
00:55:04Trenton!
00:55:04Oh!
00:55:05Why do you always look so wet?
00:55:07Why?
00:55:09Do you hatch out of an egg every morning?
00:55:12These two are hilarious, but Tim Robinson is who finally gets Hart to crack.
00:55:17During one of Hart's lines, Robinson pops up behind him without warning,
00:55:21causing him to break character and let out a quick laugh.
00:55:25I would never find any person in this room, except Carl.
00:55:29Oh, no.
00:55:30Except for Carl.
00:55:31Reads a bit, he's old, he's useless, he's just that good to me.
00:55:36So, Carl, sorry, Carl, you gotta go!
00:55:39Number 4.
00:55:40Billie Eilish, Hotel Ad.
00:55:42When a host doesn't have a lot of comedy chops under their belt,
00:55:46it's easy to see why some of the sketches that Saturday Night Live writers come up with
00:55:50might throw them off their game.
00:55:52So is the case for Billie Eilish, who hosted the show in 2021.
00:55:56And it's surprisingly well for a first-time host, especially one so young.
00:56:00Our rooms provide every comfort required by law.
00:56:05Tiny soap and plastic.
00:56:07Phone that blinks.
00:56:09One of her best sketches was Hotel Ad,
00:56:12in which Eilish lent her impeccable monotone voice
00:56:14to a very strange and off-putting commercial for a hotel.
00:56:18Want to see the local sites?
00:56:19Ask her concierge Doreen,
00:56:21but be warned, she's having a hard month every month.
00:56:25But unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you look at it,
00:56:29Eilish couldn't hold that deadpan tone for long.
00:56:32Especially not next to the very hilarious Kate McKinnon.
00:56:35Situated between the DMV and a darkened Sonic,
00:56:39it's the location that will make your Uber driver say,
00:56:42you sure?
00:56:46Number 3. Lindsay Lohan, Debbie Downer, Disney World.
00:56:50Well, you guys, Disney World really is fun.
00:56:53Makes me feel like a kid again.
00:56:55I mean, the time before my two-year stint at Children's.
00:56:58This sketch is anything but a downer.
00:57:01Indeed, taking Rachel Dratch's iconic recurring character
00:57:04to the most magical place on Earth was a stroke of genius.
00:57:07Although, even Pluto walks away from her with his tail between his legs.
00:57:12When that cost him on, he's probably in the early stages of heat stroke.
00:57:18Nevertheless, as they say, misery loves company.
00:57:22And Debbie's misery is such a crowd pleaser that she soon breaks everyone.
00:57:26Credit to Lohan, though, who holds out longer than most of her scene mates.
00:57:30However, eventually, even she gets caught up in the hilarity and loses it.
00:57:35You are totally ruining my trip to Texas.
00:57:38I didn't say a word during It's a Small World when you talked about low birth weight
00:57:42or during the fireworks when you went about feline AIDS.
00:57:47The actress later told Vogue that she quickly left the set
00:57:50as she was worried she'd get in trouble for laughing.
00:57:53Number 2. Adele, Africa Tourism.
00:57:56While the subject matter is somewhat sketchy,
00:57:58this sketch is primarily remembered for Adele's infectious laughter.
00:58:03You're gonna want that coconut water.
00:58:08Last night?
00:58:12I saw the face of God.
00:58:14She plays a divorcee discovering the continent of Africa
00:58:17alongside cast members Kate McKinnon and Heidi Gardner.
00:58:20As any SNL fan knows,
00:58:22keeping a straight face while sharing the screen with McKinnon is very hard.
00:58:26And for sure, the comedian comes close to breaking the singer numerous times.
00:58:31It starts with a sly smile and a slight chuckle here and there.
00:58:34But it's Gardner who delivers the double entendre that leaves Adele doubled over and laughing out loud.
00:58:40The rhythm, the drums, the pounding.
00:58:46The fanning yourself with a palm between rounds.
00:58:50It was the breakout sketch of the night.
00:58:52Now that's some powerful laughter.
00:58:55Tell your translation that you want to see Africa.
00:59:00All of it.
00:59:02From Angola to Jamaica.
00:59:06If you love games, be sure to check out WatchMojo's new game, Terrible Influence.
00:59:11Just launched for purchase at TerribleInfluence.com.
00:59:14Terrible Influence is a satirical board game about the dark side of fame
00:59:17from the writer of the most popular girls in school and us, WatchMojo.
00:59:21Boom.
00:59:22I can make an apology video.
00:59:24Oh, you so would.
00:59:25Click on the link in the description to check out the game
00:59:27and be the first to play Terrible Influence.
00:59:35When you make Ryan Gosling break character this badly,
00:59:38the only choice is to do it again.
00:59:40And that's exactly what Saturday Night Live did.
00:59:43Yes, you three experienced the first verified case of alien abduction.
00:59:47So naturally, you are of great interest to the United States government.
00:59:50When Ryan Gosling first appeared in the Close Encounter sketch,
00:59:53there was no way we could have known just how iconic this appearance would come to be.
00:59:57The sketch portrays three people who are abducted by aliens
01:00:01and are asked to tell the government about their experience
01:00:03and marks another instance of Kate McKinnon making people absolutely lose it.
01:00:08Were these beings also bathed in light?
01:00:11Uh, nope, nope.
01:00:12They were, uh, gray with big fat eyes, little mouths.
01:00:16They just, uh, stared while I peed.
01:00:18As soon as she gets going, Gosling is absolutely down for the count.
01:00:22He tries to hide behind his hand, but nothing can hide that smile.
01:00:25So I had to just chill up there with my damn coot-coot and prune shoe hammer
01:00:30till the place opened up.
01:00:34Gosling later reprised the sketch, but nothing is as good as the original.
01:00:39Did we forget another time a host lost it on SNL?
01:00:42Let us know in the comments below.
