00:01So here comes the D-backs right now they're a half a game back of the
00:05Padres for the third wildcard spot three games back of the Phillies well
00:11Landon Root look he comes in his records not very good seven and thirteen
00:14sometimes that doesn't really give you an indication of how at times he's
00:18pitched extremely well and the other thing he's done is this is his 26 starts
00:22so he's taking the ball every time he's finessed pass on the backhand and they
00:27just got him you start out a game I mean you want to find out what's working you
00:31want to find out what you have command of it it's important that you throw a
00:33strike it's Furman who cuts it off and throws him out one two three top of the
00:38first inning we go to the bottom of the first it's the Diamondbacks nothing the
00:42Giants coming up Diamondbacks challenge in this series lies with the starting
00:46pitching we are likely to see several rotation replacements get start in this
00:51series beginning tonight with Jose Cabrera right fielder is Drew Gilbert who leads
00:55it off to the Giants hide it deep to right this one is way back
01:02well I tell you what when a guy finds that belief in himself that he can play up
01:07here it's just remarkable how things can change and it has dawned on this young
01:11man that he could not only play up here but he could make a difference I guess one
01:16of the greatest things to experience watch a young player find his his confidence at
01:20this level where Devers is supposed to hit him and he stood from the other way for a
01:24base hit he just went with it it was a breaking ball
01:27here's Cox the walk Ryan Kaplan the pitching coach coming out see this very
01:33often a bound meeting from your pitching coach in the first inning so we'll see if
01:37Cabrera can hit the reset button here this is in the air drifting over to left
01:41center is Ryan Walshman runners go halfway now they head back and Cabrera has
01:45out number two this is bounced to Fernandez at third thought about a raise to the
01:49bag he'll use that big arm and get the out at first good job by Cabrera to settle in
01:54after the leadoff homer by Gilbert the Giants get two hits strand two
01:58Ronaldo Perdomo leads off the second against Landon Root and he's on board
02:02ahead of Kepler Kepler swings hits it softly to second charging it is
02:06Furman only play is to first little underhand flip works as a sacrifice
02:10Bonomo's Tim Tawa at first base he bats sixth and Tawa gets into this one it
02:15hangs up in center for Jonah Cox Perdomo at second and here he come nope gonna
02:20change his mind and head back a good throw there by Cox to get that in there
02:24Jose Fernandez was not expected to start today because of
02:28Arnotto being in the lineup so this is his opportunity
02:31short right here comes Drew Gilbert able to run it down and save a run
02:35no runs no hits a walk and a man left we go to the bottom of the second
02:38Jose Cabrera who had a 30 pitch first bitten by Drew Gilbert a leadoff
02:43home run for the Giants which is the game's only run so far and Gilbert's eighth of the year
02:47already much better here just ahead he was falling behind so many of those hitters
02:51in the first inning and a swing and a ground ball to second Vargas has it and
02:55sets his feet throws to first in time that's a one two three bottom of the second
02:59good bounce back for Cabrera he takes us into the third Landon Root begins
03:04this one leading the National League in losses he has lost five starts in a row
03:09and Newt bar shoots it by Nate Furman into right field a two-ounce single in the third is their
03:14first hit
03:14Corbin grounded out his first time first pitch swinging along the line in left
03:19Whitcomb from third and Shea Whitcomb in a foul territory will make the catch
03:24and that will do it for the Diamondbacks here Drew Gilbert comes up here in the bottom of the third
03:29and then he rolls this one to first so three unassisted for Tawa
03:33and that'll bring up Devers who blind a single in the left field
03:36rolls this one up the middle
03:39Vargas will make the play so Jose Cabrera the starting pitcher for the D-backs
03:44have settled down since the first inning he gets this one on the ground hard but it's right at Tawa
03:49and that's a very swift one two three bottom of the third that'll take us into the fourth
03:54Gabby got the long overdue off day yesterday in the win over Chicago
03:58he has had it rolling 13 extra base hits and 16 RBIs in his last 18 games
04:05pitch number nine is driven in the air to left field
04:08welcome back Gabby we're tied at one
04:11and that ball was mushed Chris 397 feet at 110 miles an hour off the bat
04:17Gabby came into the at-bat ready to do damage and he left the at-bat doing damage
04:21that's what you love to see to lead off this fourth inning here for the Diamondbacks
04:25let's talk about the inconsistencies that Rupp has had this year
04:28it's it's been a bit strange because he'll start a game and go through the first
04:32nine guys in the lineup and just cut him down
04:34then he gets into the fourth inning and all of a sudden he loses his command
04:37and it's unsettling a little poke job to left
04:41and it's gonna fall
04:43so that'll load the bases
04:45well that's another one of those hits that are gonna make a guy mad
04:48it's okay to get bad just get over it
04:51backs up Hill who got a bad read here now has to come back in
04:55and Podomo will stay put
04:57and had to charge in to get it but that's the second out for the Giants
05:01not out of the woods yet
05:02no he's fight for his life
05:04here's Walt Smith
05:05strikes out swinging
05:07Lamb and Rupp through it all gives up just the one run
05:11Giants hitters would like to find a way to make
05:14Jose Cabrera work a little bit here in the bottom of the fourth just to give Landon Rupp a breather
05:19Cox Buds
05:20third base side Cabrera off the mound
05:23picks it up
05:23throws way too late
05:25well that it didn't it didn't even have to be a perfect but he's so fast
05:30Jonah Cox blazing speed
05:32he goes
05:34and he makes it
05:35Kelly slide just to stay in shape
05:37runner in scoring position two and two to count the pitch
05:40Whitcomb strikes out swinging a cutter that stayed in
05:44a hit here could give the Giants the lead
05:47but well the center field on the move is
05:49Walt Smith and he makes the catch
05:52Kavanaugh gave it a great ride and almost got it out of here
05:56but it's out number three
05:57one one game here's Christian Koss
06:00that's a four seamer and it caught him
06:02that's the last thing that Cabrera wanted to do was hit a guy in a two strike count
06:06the guy was speed
06:07here's Furman who bunts the slot in front of home plate
06:10it's a good buck
06:11Brandon says I got it he does
06:13and here goes Koss
06:14he goes to third
06:17Fernandez forgot third base unoccupied and cost with some heads up base running
06:22took note of that and went all the way around
06:24have to go cover third you have a rookie pitcher a rookie third base when they both converge
06:30no one goes back to third and Koss takes advantage of that
06:33so Cabrera is going to depart
06:35Taylor Clark is your new pitcher
06:37infield in Gilbert
06:38on one pitch
06:40Gilbert hits a soft liner into left center field coming in to make the catch
06:44going into a slide is Kepler
06:45tagging Koss from third
06:47he'll come home to score
06:49he has driven in both runs tonight for the Giants with a home run
06:53and now with an excellent situational at bat a sacrifice fly
06:57on for the giant bullpen they have a wave of no names back there
07:01Aaron Harris is making just his eighth career major league appearance after he made his big league debut earlier this
07:07month
07:08got him it certainly sets up a fastball
07:101-0 pitch there's a high high fly ball to right coming in on it and camped under it
07:17Gilbert on number two 2-2 pitch curveball strike three call that's a pretty curveball
07:24the most beautiful 12-6 curveball in the game right now
07:28Jose Cabrera was pretty good for the D-backs and now it's a bullpen game
07:33it's swung on and popped up foul ground first base side
07:36Devers over right on the cusp of the warning track and he makes a catch one away
07:40here's Vargas ill tomorrow little jam shot third baseman Whitcomb hustling over into foul ground
07:47makes a catch on the run two down
07:49the ball to third giving ground is not a problem
07:54Walshman runs well
07:55so Walshman retiring and Trent Harris set down six hitters in a row
07:59that might be it for him but even if so what a great outing with Trent Harris tonight
08:05so Seymour in after Trent Harris was pretty pretty impressive
08:09yeah he's hit the comfort zone very quickly
08:12sent this out to center for Jonah Cox
08:14and he pitches off that cutter too just a better velocity than what we saw from Harris
08:18it's gonna be mid to upper 90s
08:20that's it hard but a one hopper right at Nate Furman
08:23two outs in the game
08:24here's Moreno
08:25two to one the Giants ahead
08:27two down three two pitch outside and he walked in
08:32so another great battle there tying run is on base
08:36and here is the switch hitting Geraldo Perdomo
08:38here goes Gabby got a big jump and he's gonna get himself picked off
08:42oh they run into the third out to win the game
08:44getting a one run game
08:45Diamondbacks run themselves out of the top of the eighth inning
08:49it'll be Kevin Ginkle another good solid season for Ginkle
08:54he takes the walk he earned it
08:56Devers a single and then he's bounced out twice
08:59up the middle
09:00and a base hit and off to the races is Jung Hu Lee
09:05that's one of those strong fella base hits
09:08middle infields in halfway
09:09Eldridge is 0 for 3 tonight
09:11there's a waste of time
09:13fair ball
09:14Jung Hu Lee scores
09:15Devers over to third and a stand up double for Bryce Eldridge makes it 3 to 1 Giants
09:22and we don't see him swinging a lot of first pitches but he'll do it in RBI situations
09:28Jonah Cox with the infield in runners at second and third
09:31Now Cox hits a pop fly into shallow center
09:35and coming down the line is Devers and the ball falls in base hit
09:39and Devers will score 4 to 1 Giants
09:42that's a ball that maybe an infielder catches if the infield is backed up in normal depth
09:48but it was left to the center fielder Waldschmidt and he could not get there
09:52he was playing very deep
09:54two runs are in 4 to 1 Giants holding it second was Eldridge
09:58and a shot into right field off the bat and ill
10:01the third Eldridge
10:02he's going to be waived home
10:04coming up with a throw to third is Carroll too late
10:08Eldridge scores 5 to 1 Giants
10:11Cox over to third
10:12and Turner Hill comes through with his first hit of the night
10:17and a run batted in
10:19Antonio Lavello is going to have to get Kevin Genkel out of the ball game
10:22new pitcher now for the Diamondbacks will be Juan Burgos making his fourth appearance
10:26against Whitcomb was still only one out and the Giants leading 5 to 1
10:30there's a bunt
10:31and Burgos looked everywhere but home
10:35and because of that Cox scored
10:37a head spasm right there
10:39I mean you're down in the ball game 5-1
10:41you don't want to give up any more
10:43your main priority is that runner at third base
10:45it's the ninth inning
10:46Ryan Walker in for the bullpen
10:48there's Jose Fernandez
10:50Fernandez a base hit in the fourth
10:52he's one for three
10:53slider grounded down the third base side
10:55diving as Whitcomb he's got it
10:56then goes over his steps on the bag
10:58jumping to his feet and beating Perdomo there
11:02he wanted to throw to first but Fernandez has excellent speed
11:05so there was no play and he just held on to the ball then
11:09outstanding play though by Whitcomb on a ball that
11:11off the bat looked like it might be extra bases
11:13but he laid out and got it
11:15two down and a chopper to shortstop
11:17right behind the bag
11:18Koss has it throws over the first
11:20and the Giants have won the game
11:23the A-backs have some work to do
11:25they're going to take this series on the road against San Francisco
11:28let's go
