00:00I said at the start of the summer, I think it's fair to say you guys were looking at maybe
00:03adding another coach and potentially a set-piece coach into the set-up.
00:07No, I think it was suggested though, it was possibly something you were looking at.
00:10I'm just wondering if anything's developed there, if it's something you're still looking at to add to the coaching group.
00:14No, we're good with the coaching group, yeah.
00:17Rob?
00:18There was a couple of set-backs in the second half of last season, Leeds and Newcastle.
00:22On both occasions you won the next game.
00:24I think particularly after Leeds you went to Stamford Bridge and won quite well.
00:27Is there anything that you find particularly important in these weeks where you've had a set-back to maybe reset
00:32the group and go again?
00:35Yeah, I think your only kind of success comes from how well you deal with set-backs in the end.
00:43In any position or in any sport, particularly this one, going through a season, there's going to be set-backs
00:48sometimes a bit smaller than others.
00:50It's how you deal with that initially, how you react to that, what comes next.
00:55I think that ultimately decides what type of team you're going to become.
01:00So far we've dealt with those set-backs really well within games, game to game.
01:07We had one last week, getting away from it.
01:09It's disappointing, but we luck to bounce back.
01:13We had a good week, boys have refocused, learnt from where we could have improved and keep pushing forward.
01:20Jamie?
01:22Just with regard to this, more of the performance actually than the result at Hull.
01:26You've got your captain Bruno Fernandes, you've got Uri Tielemans who's the captain of Belgium who knows what he's doing.
01:31Did you get enough from those two players in terms of leadership when you most needed it on the pitch?
01:35It's one game, so I think there's enough leadership in our dressing room that we'll have it throughout the season.
01:41Just because we lose a game, it's not just because of leadership or I've got passion thrown at me after
01:48the game.
01:48It's not just that, you lose two set plays like we did, it changes the game.
01:54There was actually going to be a follow-up question, you did get, let's say, rankled by Fiatov's questioning of
01:59passion.
02:00If there was passion there, how come there wasn't a performance?
02:04Because it didn't look to my very amateur eye that...
02:08You've watched football a long time, right?
02:09Sorry?
02:09You've watched football for a long time.
02:11Teams lose games and win games and it's not just because you try or you don't try.
02:15So what was the reason then, why did you lose that game?
02:17There's all sorts of different reasons, teams lose games, so there's different reasons.
02:21Concrete?
02:21I don't have to give you the total reason because we know what we're trying to improve on.
02:25What I'm just saying to you, I think it's so easy and lazy to just,
02:29a team loses a game, everything's wrong, this is wrong, this is wrong, not trying enough,
02:34not enough passion, it's just the obvious answer.
02:36So I think there's a lot that goes into a game of football that can take from...
02:43It's the manner of it though, Michael, not the actual defeat.
02:45Games can be lost but the way in which your team...
02:48It's still just a game though, we've probably played like that,
02:50and won games and everyone goes, what a great team, what a great coach,
02:53what a great load of players when we find a way to win 1-0.
02:57So from my perspective when you're analysing it, it's not the feeling,
03:00just because of the feeling.
03:02We've got to dig deeper than that and understand the details of it.
03:05And we don't get carried away when we win certain games
03:07because we know it's not been perfect and sometimes when you lose games, we know what we need to improve
03:13on.
03:13But there's certainly things that we can be a little bit clearer on and calmer on in certain moments
03:18to understand that and keep the belief that things that will do well, which we will do, will win us
03:24games.
03:25Chris.
03:26Hi Michael.
03:27Now that you've got the three New midfield players in, you've got a different look, a different mix in that
03:32area of the pitch.
03:34What's your take on what you've got now and had you been told in May what you were going to
03:38have now,
03:39would you have been happy with what you now have in your squad?
03:41I think we've got a really good balance. We've certainly got youth in there.
03:46And when I say youth, that's come with a lot of experience and not youth where it's really young,
03:51but 22, 22, 21 is a really good age with the level that we've got at the moment,
03:59with experience, with Yuri and Mace to balance that off.
04:06Offering different things, you know, and obviously it's picking the right balance,
04:11the right combinations at certain times. It's a long season and getting through these first weeks
04:15where it's one game to then getting into the busiest schedules.
04:18I think it's a really strong midfield and a really strong unit, so I'm really happy with that.
04:26Hi Michael. It was established about a year ago that the club were keen on Carlos
04:30and saw him have an interaction with you at Brighton and some of the other players.
04:34What was the reason that it took as long as it has done for him to come in?
04:40There's all sorts of reasons. I think you can still see now within football,
04:45the window it takes things to get into place for certain situations.
04:51It's not always straightforward and things have got to drop.
04:55In the end, we've been patient, we wanted to get the right players in,
04:58we've said that all along. That fit the group, that will take us forward
05:04and Carlos is definitely one of them, so we're delighted to have him for the season.
05:09Once he gets going in the next two to three weeks, he'll be really strong.
05:13I appreciate this isn't something you're directly involved in,
05:15but where it's the first home game of the season,
05:17there'll be a lot of supporters who won't be at the game this weekend
05:19because of the club's ticket touting clamped down.
05:23Do you have sympathy with those supporters and how they feel
05:27as though they've been mistreated by the club?
05:30I had sympathy for the supporters last week with the travel scenario
05:34and understanding that and the time and the effort and the money that they spend
05:38to come and support us all over the country and all over Europe
05:41and if not all over the world, so I understand that side of things.
05:46There are certain things that we can make better,
05:50there are certain things that are out of our control,
05:51but I certainly appreciate the supporters.
05:53I think that's pretty obvious from my perspective.
05:56Chris?
05:57Just on Mason, Michael, his players have been here a few years now
06:02and every time he seems to be getting a bit of momentum,
06:04he gets these niggles.
06:06Is the club trying to do anything to solve that
06:09and do you still think he can make a big impact here?
06:13Yes, 100% Mason can have a big impact, no doubt.
06:16I think he's a top player and he's started pre-season
06:23and gone through pre-season particularly well.
06:26He hasn't missed an awful lot of time,
06:28so he'll get up to speed pretty quickly.
06:31That constant injury, is that something you've looked at
06:34or is it just bad luck?
06:36I think with every player we want to keep them on the pitch
06:38as much as we can.
06:40Certain players end up going through spells
06:42a little bit different to others,
06:43but we've got unbelievable staff and facilities here
06:49and things we can draw upon to try and make it better for every player
06:53and keep them fit as long as we can for sure.
06:57You've been around Mason in that situation like that.
07:00How much does he get down?
07:01Like Chris said, he seems to get to that limit
07:04where he's going to make a big impact as that setback.
07:07What do you have to do to pick him up in that situation?
07:10He's very level, I think he's a really top character
07:14and personality and does a lot of the right things
07:17with the right intentions.
07:21He's the type where you can really have a good relationship
07:24and an understanding with.
07:25He was disappointed to pick up the small knock that he did,
07:29but it won't knock him for what's coming next in the season ahead.
07:33We're really positive about that.
07:36Michael, you say how important it is for a team to respond to setbacks.
07:41There haven't been that many things you took over in November.
07:44Has there been anything different in training this week?
07:47Have you seen the response that you wanted?
07:52In terms of response, I've seen what I wanted this week for sure.
07:56The boys have...
07:58It hurts when you get beat.
07:59It hurts.
08:01It hurts us all.
08:02It's how you deal with that, but the boys have come back
08:05and you could tell we were coming back after a defeat.
08:10You can sense it, you get a feeling for it.
08:12But I like the way the boys have refocused and come together,
08:16stuck together, done the right things, trained really well,
08:20at a really good level with everything we'd expect
08:23and refocus for the weekend.
08:26It's the only way.
08:28But the boys have been good this week.
08:30Obviously, you've played here for many years.
08:33Is it possible at a club like this to shut out the noise?
08:36Or is it just something that you learned to live with?
08:38I remember missing the penalty against Burnley in 2009.
08:41I think it was the second game of the season.
08:42We got beat 1-0.
08:44I'm sure they just got promoted at that time as well.
08:47I think we had just won the league
08:48and got the Champions League final at that stage.
08:52It's part of it.
08:53It happens.
08:53We don't want it to happen.
08:54You can lose games of football.
08:58As I said, it's how you bounce back.
09:00Bounce back with good performances and winning games
09:03and using that little bit to feed off it
09:06and drive you forward a little bit more.
09:07It makes you stronger.
09:09Thanks, everyone.
09:10Cheers, guys.
09:11Thanks.
