00:00Well, this is, I guess, uncensored. I guess.
00:09Now, I know when this video drops, it will still technically be the month of April,
00:14but folks, I just wanted to get out in front of it and get ready for the return
00:18of everyone's favorite themed month on this channel, Hulkamania.
00:23I'm gonna be a Hulkamania. I'm gonna be a Hulkamania. I thought it would be a billion friends.
00:28And we are going to kick things off in historic fashion with WCW's inaugural Uncensored pay-per-view
00:35from 1995, March 19th to be exact, at the Tupelo Coliseum in Tupelo, Mississippi.
00:42This show was nominated by Ron Gleason over at patreon.com slash wrestlingwithregret.
00:48Every match on this show is a gimmick match. That is the theme of Uncensored.
00:54It's supposed to be unsanctioned by WCW.
00:57I actually love this great line by me and Gene Okerlund during a control center
01:01to describe the unsanctioned nature of this show, where he says,
01:06these matches were unacceptable to the powers that be at WCW.
01:09That's why this show is a non-sanctioned event.
01:12I love it. Unacceptable to the powers that be.
01:15On the surface, going, well, this card sucks.
01:18Why do we want this? Get rid of it.
01:20But I think that, you know, I was 10 years old when this show came out.
01:24And I wasn't watching then, but I think that if I was watching in 1995
01:29and I saw a commercial for this show where it's like,
01:32there's no rules. Everything is, oh my God, people, they could bleed
01:36and they could use weapons. They could do whatever they want.
01:39Like, my imagination would fill in the gaps for that.
01:42And I would have dead-ass believed that this was truly an unsanctioned show.
01:46And I would have been like, oh my God, I can't wait for them to like,
01:48ah, break each other's arms in this thing.
01:51And yes, one year later, I would have absolutely believed
01:54that there was a pay-per-view in which, you know,
01:57professional bodyguards would fight convicts on Alcatraz.
02:00And I would have bought that shit too.
02:02Just under 5,800 people in the Tupelo Coliseum there.
02:05The show got 180,000 pay-per-view buys,
02:08the same number as Super Brawl the previous month,
02:11which in and of itself was a darn good number.
02:13And especially because this was, again, the inaugural,
02:16the first ever uncensored, a very unproven brand.
02:19And for it to do that kind of number, very impressive.
02:22It's uncensored. It's totally different.
02:24But we're all going to wear tuxes and produce the show
02:26the exact same way we produce all our shows.
02:29Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenet, and Bobby Heenan welcome the viewers.
02:32And the big storyline with this show is,
02:35where's Jimmy Hart?
02:37Because on the main event, the pre-show hour before the pay-per-view,
02:41Vader showed up with Jimmy Hart's jacket.
02:44Oh no, it's Hulk Hogan's best friend.
02:46It's his manager.
02:48What's going to happen to him
02:49as we get close to this strap match
02:52between the Hulkster and Vader?
02:54And oh my God, think of poor Jimmy Hart.
02:57Where is he at?
02:58But you know what?
02:58Hulk Hogan, as we saw on main event,
03:00has the ultimate surprise.
03:02It's a buff Ultimate Warrior ripoff
03:05in a loincloth partially obscured by some smoke
03:09as Hogan tears his shirt for the second time
03:12in a one-hour block.
03:13This was the first view we got of the Renegade.
03:17And there's a lot more to talk about him
03:19as we get to the main event.
03:21But there's still a whole rest of show to cover here.
03:24So how will the first ever Uncensored go?
03:28A night full of gimmick matches.
03:29Anything can happen.
03:30No rules.
03:31It's going to be crazy.
03:32Someone could die on this show.
03:33You don't know, but you got to buy on pay-per-view to watch.
03:36And boy, we start things off hot with the King of the Road match
03:39as the natural Dustin Rhodes takes on the Blacktop Bully.
03:43Some of you might recall my pay-per-views from before this time
03:46when the Blacktop Bully, Barry Darso, Repo Man, Smash,
03:51call him what you will, he was debuting
03:54as this member of the crowd
03:56who just kind of yelled at everyone indiscriminately.
03:58Eventually, he actually gets his hands on Rhodes
04:01sitting from the crowd area, gets arrested.
04:03And then who bails him out but Colonel Rob Parker.
04:07He bails him out for $75,000.
04:11And so now the Blacktop Bully is a part of the Studs stable
04:15and is indebted to Colonel Parker
04:17and is continuing this feud here between the two of them.
04:20So it's going to be a match fought on the back of a flatbed truck
04:25driving very fast down the highway.
04:28And the first person to blow the horn
04:31is going to be the winner of the match.
04:34They're going to have to wrestle and fight on this moving truck.
04:37And there's a helicopter in the air
04:38and there's a car driving alongside,
04:41getting shots like close up.
04:43They have cameras on either end of the flatbed.
04:45And they got police escort to make sure
04:48that they're able to, you know, do their thing.
04:50And so it's a very big production to start things off.
04:53This was a pre-taped thing.
04:55This was actually filmed a couple of days earlier
04:57in Atlanta or in a rural area of Atlanta, somewhere nearby.
05:01And yeah, it was edited down for reasons.
05:03We'll explain that a little bit.
05:04But here it goes.
05:06We come to the match in progress.
05:08Dustin is already almost right up to the horn
05:10when Bully cuts him off.
05:12They're fighting in bales of hay.
05:14And the whole match, like this match,
05:16it goes for about 13 minutes.
05:18And it's just these two going back and forth the entire time.
05:21They're fighting over here.
05:22They're fighting over there.
05:23And all these repeat moments
05:25where they're trying to go for the horn.
05:27They get cut off.
05:28We can see at this point that Dustin is bleeding.
05:31And more on that point later.
05:32A bale of hay to the dome.
05:34And I love they point out that the car could stop at any time.
05:38While they're wrestling here.
05:39And they can totally throw things off.
05:40And Bobby Heenan is a joy.
05:42I always say this whenever I review the shows.
05:45But he really is in full force here.
05:47He's so funny all night.
05:48And especially in this matchup here
05:50where he talks about the truck could stop.
05:52He goes, oh, can I stop to pay a toll?
05:54I don't know what truck drivers do.
05:56Dustin throwing some water at Bully.
05:58The truck blatantly running a stop sign as it makes a turn.
06:01Bully is now bleeding.
06:02He's up on a post and takes this big bale bump into the hay
06:06when the truck slows down.
06:07That was pretty funny.
06:08At one point the truck runs over this piece of wood.
06:10And Heenan goes, is that Dustin's leg?
06:12Dustin has now procured a trough.
06:14That's what he and his dad eat out of, Heenan says.
06:17The truck has come to a stop at the intersection for the church bus.
06:20Oh, how nice of him to stop for that.
06:22Then Barry Darso at one point he's climbing the fence again.
06:25And he gets crotched like Dustin's pulling his leg down.
06:28And Barry makes the funniest oh no sound I've ever heard.
06:32Oh no!
06:33Oh no!
06:34They're just doing a lot of the same shit at this point.
06:36They're both fighting near the horn.
06:38Bully with the eye poke of doom, sending Dustin tumbling.
06:42Bully blows the horn and wins this very silly match.
06:45I'm going to give it negative one star.
06:48I'd give him an A for effort because, you know, this is truly something different in a wrestling show.
06:54This feels like something that Memphis, something that Jerry Lawler would have done at some time as well.
06:58But, like, man, you could do a match like this today and I think it would actually go a lot
07:04better.
07:04Because think of the advancements in technology.
07:07You know, you could have a drone, you could have millions of cameras.
07:10Like, so many cameras in that truck instead of, like, just two.
07:13You wouldn't even need a roadside car driving and getting an angle as well because you'd have so many angles
07:18for a fraction of what WCW no doubt paid to produce this whole thing.
07:24And it would look tons better, probably just go better in general.
07:27So I think if you, like, did it today and had a good reason for it and maybe made it
07:32a cinematic match or something, I think you could have something interesting with a match like this.
07:36But the fallout to this match is way more impactful than the match itself because Rhodes and the Blacktop Bully
07:44were both fired from WCW along with the match producer, Mike Graham, because they went against the company's bloodletting policy.
07:52They bled and they said, no, that's bad, and so they actually had to chop up a lot of the
07:56match with editing to obscure the blood as best they could.
07:59And so that makes the match look a bit more jumbled.
08:02And Dusty Rhodes actually suffered politically for this, too.
08:04He was taken off TV as a result of this happening.
08:07They would all eventually be brought back, although Dustin Rhodes, a bit later than the rest, because as we know,
08:13once he was fired from WCW, he would go to the WWF and become Gold Dust.
08:18Mike today is in the promo zone with the stud stable, Arn Anderson, the TV champ, putting over the last
08:24match as the start of a clean sweep.
08:26That's probably the nicest thing you could say about that match, yes.
08:29He says that Johnny B. Badd putting on the boxing gloves is a sign of desperation and it handicaps him
08:34against a wrestler and that Arn is the greatest wrestler in the world today.
08:39Colonel Parker says he's proud of bullying, saying the $75,000 he spent to get him out of jail was
08:44worth it.
08:44He says Jim Duggan is shaking in his boots over Meng, he's going to let Meng utilize nine forms of
08:50martial arts on him and make his cross eyes stay that way.
08:54And oh boy, folks, it gets better from here, because our first live bit of in-ring action is a
08:59martial arts match as the man called Meng.
09:03Takes on hacks on Jim Duggan.
09:05Meng has completed his transformation because he debuted in WCW a while earlier as the silent bodyguard of Colonel Parker.
09:15He absorbed the wooden chair shot from Dusty Rhodes in the build-up to Fall Brawl.
09:20He's this big tough son of a gun and now he has officially transitioned from bodyguard to wrestler.
09:26He's hired to have matches now in WCW.
09:29And this is one of his first ones in the company, taking on Hacksaw Jim, who's dressed the nines for
09:34this martial arts matchup.
09:36And speaking of which, look at the way Meng is dressed here.
09:39He's got the big robe on, he has some war paint.
09:41This look would not last very long.
09:43The guest referee for this martial arts contest is Sonny Ono, friend of Eric Bischoff's,
09:49and a while before he would become the selfie king we'd all know and love him for being.
09:53Duggan, dressed for a fight, he refuses to do any bowing.
09:57I ain't bowing for no one, tough guy, USA!
10:00Duggan, very disrespectful to other customs here.
10:03Meng getting the first shot in, Duggan decides he's not going to sell for anything.
10:06He immediately takes his boot off.
10:09That fails.
10:09He takes the other boot off and uses it on Meng's foot to break up the nerve hole.
10:14There are a lot of nerve holes in this match, and there are also, there's a lot of no-selling
10:19in general by Duggan.
10:20It's not as charming when he does it as when Meng does the no-selling.
10:24And they are really emphasizing the martial arts thing, as Heenan makes Sonny Bono jokes about the referee.
10:30Duggan taking a beating here.
10:32I love that apparently in martial arts matches they do the arm drop thing the same way they do in
10:36wrestling matches.
10:37Duggan fights out of it.
10:38He goes for a headbutt, but it hurts him more than Meng.
10:42He keeps coming back.
10:43Colonel Parker gets involved on the apron.
10:45Duggan grabs him.
10:46Ono grabs his other arm.
10:48Meng with the free kick to the head.
10:50Meng gets the wing.
10:51I mean win.
10:52I'm going to give it a half star out of five.
10:55Oof.
10:55How many forms of martial arts did we end up seeing in that matchup?
10:59I counted at most two or three.
11:01Yeah, it's not getting any better as the show gets on.
11:05I mean, first the live fans had to endure, you know, a 15-minute pre-tape thing on those monitors
11:10on the stage.
11:11And then they watch this match, which at least is dynamic and there's crowd involvement and, like, Duggan is, like,
11:17you know, selling to the fans and everything.
11:19But, yeah, this is still not a great match.
11:22Stunning Steve Austin.
11:24Somehow still in the company at this point.
11:26He's in the WCW hotline zone with Terry Taylor.
11:29Look at my biceps.
11:30What?
11:31Did you see me on the pre-show?
11:33What?
11:33Well, up next, a boxer versus wrestler match as Johnny B. Badd takes on the TV champion Arn Anderson.
11:40P.S.
11:41No titles are on the line in this unsanctioned show.
11:44But back in January, Anderson did beat Johnny B. Badd for the TV championship with the help of Colonel Parker.
11:50They've been fighting ever since with some return matches at Clash of the Champions and WCW Saturday Night.
11:56They had a Lumberjack match at Super Brawl, but now it's boxer versus wrestler time.
12:01Of course, Johnny B. Badd has the boxing experience, the Golden Gloves experience before he became a wrestler.
12:07And you see him backstage with his trainer, Rock Finnegan.
12:10Dugga-dugga-dugga-dugga-dear John Badd, how do you wrestle with boxing gloves on?
12:14Sincerely, Mike T.N.A.
12:16He openly admits he's at a disadvantage with the gloves.
12:19He makes it sound like he didn't want this match.
12:21But then he goes, it's not about boxing versus wrestling.
12:23It's about Johnny B. Badd versus Arn Anderson.
12:26Like, yeah, you just kind of buried yourself going into this thing, so good luck to you.
12:30I do love this hype package for Arn here.
12:32He's got this new truck. He's going to tear it up in the muddy mountains.
12:35Some great sound bites from Arn in this thing, too.
12:37Just badass line after badass line.
12:40You want to jump on me? You got to go to the hospital.
12:43If you go, so what?
12:46That's the name of the game.
12:47And as the match is about to start, they explain on the rules this match has 10 three-minute rounds
12:52with a one-minute rest period.
12:54God, I hate this already.
12:56What are we doing?
12:57Round one begins.
12:58Johnny starts peppering in some body shots.
13:01Arn doing some great selling for those shots, but also doing a lot of great rope-a-dope as well.
13:05Round one concludes, and we chill for a minute.
13:08Great.
13:08Round two, fight.
13:10Arn tries getting some wrestling moves in, but Johnny's just too quick.
13:13Shot after shot sends Arn crumbling, but he's able to answer the count.
13:17More of the same until round two is over.
13:20Arn says F it and hits a beautiful DDT on Johnny during the rest period.
13:25But I love this because, like, Johnny's selling it for less time than Arn is.
13:29And Arn's the one who gave the move.
13:30Like, Arn is still, like, face down on the mat selling after Johnny's already taken the DDT.
13:36He's up.
13:37He's back in the corner.
13:38And, like, his trainer's not even mentioning that.
13:40He's just going on with his day.
13:41Ah, you're doing so good with your jabs.
13:44You didn't totally get dropped on your head just now.
13:46Arn jumps Johnny again and takes control as the rest period ends.
13:50Arn is just beating the crap out of Johnny here.
13:52Colonel Parker wants Arn to million-dollar baby his opponent.
13:56Arn throwing Johnny into the stool.
13:58We get a spine buster.
13:59But then Finnegan jumps on Arn.
14:01The match is still going.
14:03We're at the end of round three, like it fucking matters anymore.
14:06We see Rock cutting the tape off of Johnny's glove.
14:09Arn gets into it with Finnegan again.
14:11He puts the bucket over Arn's head.
14:13Then Johnny with one shot with the bucket, another one without the glove.
14:18Arn knocked out cold and can't answer the ten count.
14:20Johnny wins.
14:22I'm going to give it two and a half stars out of five.
14:24I think that this is actually, in terms of psychology, it's a really great story.
14:29We've seen it before when I reviewed stuff like the MMA rules match with Jeff Jarrett and Kurt Angle.
14:35We've seen it before with, like, the Piper and Bagwell boxing match four years after this at Bash the Beach.
14:40That one's not great.
14:42I would say that the MMA fight was somewhat better.
14:45And I think this match here was closer to that than the boxing match, certainly.
14:50Like I said, the psychology was good.
14:52The storytelling was fine.
14:53And it was a great way to get Johnny B. Badd over, winning that blowoff.
14:58And, you know, Arn sold it great.
15:00I just love the way he sold the bucket punch and everything.
15:03I mean, the selling is ace.
15:05And I think that's why, like, the last 30 seconds really elevates this matchup for me.
15:10Mike Tenet is backstage with the Macho Man.
15:12He says, what it is is what it is.
15:15And that's about the last thing I could remember him saying before he just kind of goes off and says
15:19a bunch of other phrases and words.
15:22He goes, I'll see you later.
15:23And then we go to our next match of the evening.
15:26And it's probably, like, of all the matches where it's like, oh, my God, it's uncensored.
15:30No rules.
15:30Anything can happen.
15:31This is just a regular match as the Macho Man takes on the Avalanche.
15:36It's one part of the fallout from last month's tag match where Savage and Sting took on Big Bubba and
15:42Avalanche.
15:42But this is just kind of a follow-up from that.
15:44Savage with the jump early on, doing a lot of stick and move.
15:47Lance throws himself over the top rope.
15:50Randy follows up with a top rope crossbody to the outside.
15:53A body slam attempt back in the ring goes awry.
15:56And that allows Avalanche to take advantage.
15:58A lot of drops and a suplex.
16:00Even it's a running dropkick, which is impressive.
16:03There's more fighting on the outside.
16:05Savage looking in rough shape.
16:07Avalanche continues to knock him onto the floor.
16:09Heenan is constantly concerned for his stamina.
16:12Sure enough, Macho with the guillotine, the bomb's away.
16:14He goes for a sunset flip, but then Avalanche sits on him.
16:18And a great line from Heenan where he goes,
16:20I can hear the air leaving his body from both ends.
16:23Macho is somehow able to get another comeback going, but it's snuffed out.
16:27He takes another power slam.
16:29Avalanche goes for a second rope splash, but Savage moves.
16:32Another bombs away off the top.
16:34Suddenly in comes a tall, stylin' and profilin' woman.
16:38Throw in knife-edge chops, bleeding all over the place.
16:40Not really.
16:41Looking amazing in alligator heels.
16:43It's Ric Flair.
16:45Woo!
16:45And boy, he really put some effort into this bit.
16:48Not only is he just wearing women's clothing and a wig,
16:51he also noticed in the promo later on, he's got eyeliner and mascara.
16:55He's got nail polish on.
16:57Like, he really went all out in proving that he looked like a woman.
17:00Then in comes Hulk Hogan to the rescue.
17:02The baddies flee, and Savage wins by disqualification.
17:06Unsanctioned!
17:07Uncensored, baby!
17:08I give it two stars out of five.
17:10The match itself, I thought, was fine.
17:12It might have been better three years earlier than the WWF.
17:15But I thought Savage's, like, come-from-behind work
17:18and the way he was selling for Avalanche was good.
17:21Then we have Ric Flair showing up, you know, dressed, beating up Savage.
17:24Like, and it's not the last time we'll see Flair on this show.
17:27So it's like, what the hell is he doing getting involved in this?
17:30Like, setting up more stuff with he and Savage down the line.
17:33But yeah, it's just, uh, it's a weird ending to that match.
17:36And this show is only gonna get weirder.
17:38Mike Tenet is backstage with the tag champs Harlem Heat and their manager, Sister Sherry.
17:43It's a Texas Tornado match with the Nasty Boys, and Stevie Ray says,
17:47it ain't nothing to it but to do it, and tonight it'll get done.
17:50Booker T is excited to be able to do whatever they want to in the match,
17:53and he says the Nasty Boys will be obliviated.
17:56Sister Sherry says they're gonna leave the Nasties laying and strut their stuff and shake their derrieres.
18:02I don't think her part of the promo really matched the energy of the other two, if I'm being honest.
18:06What's happened to Jimmy Hart?
18:08Maybe you'll hear on the hotline.
18:09Maybe the Nasty Boys will tell you.
18:11I don't know.
18:11And now we go to the second half of the fallout from that Super Brawl tag match I mentioned earlier,
18:16as Sting takes on Big Bubba.
18:19Now, a little bit before this, Bubba was the Guardian Angel.
18:22It was one of the many ways they tried getting around the whole copyright issue of,
18:26but can we make Ray Traylor a cop in WCW?
18:28And so he's the Guardian Angel for a while,
18:31and then he turns heel, goes back to being Big Bubba, which was his JCP name,
18:35and he's going,
18:36I've traded in my red beret for a big ol' fedora!
18:39Somebody stop me!
18:40We're backstage with Sting.
18:42He's full of pep in Tupelo, and he's on his way to the ring.
18:45Woo!
18:46He goes to biting the fingies right from the start.
18:48Sting grabs Bubba's hat.
18:50He puts it on the ground, and it's not enough to have him stomp it.
18:53He does a giant leaping ass drop onto it.
18:56That is extra.
18:57Bubba wants to go for ring post-itis, but Sting brings him in instead.
19:01Sting goes for a leapfrog, but we see this collision in the air.
19:04Sting appears to hurt his leg, and this great line from Heena where he goes,
19:07If you come to the hospital in this town with a bad leg, they'll shoot you!
19:10Bubba works over the leg.
19:12Sting gets beat up a good long time.
19:14Even when he fights back, he's too slowed down to capitalize.
19:17Bubba goes up top, but then he slips and falls.
19:19Whoops!
19:20Sting makes his comeback.
19:21He slams Bubba.
19:22Bubba gets caught in a sleeper, but he uses his tie to get out of it.
19:26Sting with a big top rope splash.
19:28Still not enough.
19:29Bubba with an accidental chop block.
19:31That was pretty neat.
19:32Sting has some fight left in him.
19:33He goes for a slam, but his leg gives out.
19:36Bubba with the cover and the shocking win.
19:38I think in terms of just straight up a wrestling match, this is the best match of the night.
19:44I mean, like, boxer versus wrestler, I give it the same rating.
19:47It's fun for a different reason.
19:49This is actually, like, a good wrestling match.
19:51And, like, I think this is a fantastic showing of Bubba's abilities.
19:55I think he and Sting work well together.
19:57Sting selling is great.
19:59I'm shocked at the finish, actually.
20:01It's just so kind of, like, out of nowhere to see something like that happen.
20:04My one nitpick is, like, so much for an anything goes match.
20:07I forgot to mention, this is billed as anything goes, but, like, nothing really fits that description in this matchup.
20:14Backstage, Brian Nobbs is screaming his head off.
20:17He says,
20:17Are you ready for nasty sensation to be shoved right down your stinking throat?
20:21Then in comes Jerry Sags.
20:23He screams as well.
20:24Brian Nobbs brings in a trash can and pretends to punch it.
20:27They are fired up.
20:29Up next, a Texas Tornado match.
20:31Again, not for the titles, but the tag team champions are involved here as Harlem Heat takes on the Nasty
20:37Boys.
20:37This is another matchup in their feud that they've been having for the last several months.
20:41This is not the blowoff.
20:42A lot of the matches you will see here on this show actually have, like, one more chapter at least
20:48coming up next month at Slambery.
20:50And this is another, you know, chapter in the Harlem Heat-Nasty Boys rivalry.
20:55Sister Sherry comes out by herself.
20:57Where can Booker and Stevie be?
20:58Well, the champs hit with the attack from behind.
21:01The Heat work over Nobbs for a while.
21:03They get a spike pile driver.
21:05And the Nasty Boys get some two-on-one time on Stevie.
21:08They bring Sherry into the ring and give her the pit stop.
21:11They brawl to the outside.
21:12They're actually going to make their way to the concession stand.
21:15In Tupelo, say it ain't so!
21:18Stevie trying to subdue Sags with a rack of cotton candy.
21:21I love that.
21:22At this point in the match, it's just total chaos.
21:25And it's so hard to watch because they spill some slushy on the ground.
21:29And now it's like everyone is just slip sliding around the ring.
21:33Whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop, whoop.
21:34All four guys and Sherry are just landing hard on their ass and on their hips because the floor is
21:40so slick.
21:41Mustard everywhere.
21:42That's a great callback.
21:44This is total madness.
21:45But the audience does not seem to care based on the sound we're hearing.
21:48Can we get back in the ring or what?
21:50They're still sliding around in this shit for three minutes.
21:53They finally destroy a funnel cake stand.
21:55And Heenan goes, that's somebody's house.
21:57Knob slams Booker onto the wreckage.
22:00And the camera misses the pinfall.
22:02The Nasty Boys win.
22:03Sherry eats shit again on the floor.
22:05Ouch.
22:06I'm going to give it two stars out of five.
22:08That match was painful to watch on multiple levels.
22:12Like, it actually breaks the streak I've been on lately of highly rated Nasty Boys matches.
22:17This was not a pretty sight.
22:18The Tupelo concession stand brawl, the callback to the moment that some say kind of gave birth to hardcore wrestling
22:25in America,
22:26I thought that was kind of a nice reference there.
22:28But man, it was so tense just seeing them all slip around and falling on their hips on the bare
22:35concrete from the slick ground.
22:37Like, that was so terrifying.
22:40Not a technical classic, but fun in its own right.
22:42In the promo zone, Vader shoves Mike Tenet out of the way and screams at Hulk Hogan,
22:47telling him there's nowhere to run or hide.
22:49He must now pay for his stupidity.
22:51It's unsanctioned and Ric Flair is in my corner.
22:54Flair's still wearing that makeup.
22:56He says he's not just another pretty face.
22:58And he says he's possessed, possessed with Hulk Hogan.
23:02I think he means obsessed.
23:03But he is just driven to madness after, you know, being in the shadow of Hulk Hogan,
23:08being made to retire late last year, and now his goal is to be the master plan.
23:15He even says so here.
23:16I've become the master plan.
23:18I've become the man possessed with taking you out of this sport forever.
23:23But whether he's possessed or obsessed, regardless, it is time for our main event here.
23:28It is a strap match between the WCW champion Hulk Hogan and Vader.
23:33Again, non-title and very different from a Yuppa Pie Indian strap match, dude.
23:39Last month at Super Brawl, it was the first time meeting between these two.
23:42It did great numbers for the show, both locally and for buy rates.
23:47And earlier than that, at Halloween Havoc 94, Ric Flair was made to retire at the hands of Hogan,
23:52but is burst back on the scene, and he vows to stay involved in WCW, even if he can't wrestle.
23:58And obviously, he wants revenge against Hogan.
24:01But as the weeks have been building up to this, and as Flair's made it clear he's going to be
24:04in Vader's corner,
24:05Hogan says he's got the ultimate surprise.
24:08And of course, all the speculation around possibly the ultimate warrior coming to WCW and helping Hogan.
24:16Oh my God, like, could that happen? Maybe. You never know.
24:19But then the best part about this is, is that, oh, the ultimate surprise, da-da-da.
24:24And just before Michael Buffer makes the introductions, Tony just goes,
24:28and of course, the ultimate surprise we know is a guy named Renegade.
24:32Wow, thanks, Tony.
24:33So like I said, Michael Buffer does the intros, and one of the first things he says is,
24:37this match is sanctioned by World Championship Wrestling.
24:40No, it's not, Michael. This is an unsanctioned show, remember?
24:43We get this standoff two-on-one, then we hear some rip-off warrior music,
24:48then we get the Renegade sprinting down and saving the day.
24:52This very obvious warrior rip-off stalks Flair up the ramp, he blocks the punch,
24:57and then for the next, like, 20 minutes it feels like we're just going to be seeing those two fighting.
25:01We've got to talk about the look of the Renegade, like the big R on his face.
25:06When you look at it up close, it's not even, like, a cool font.
25:09It's not even, like, a font the warrior would have used for the R, something jaggedy and cool.
25:15It's just this big-ass, like, sans-serif, have-an-ass R, like, two-toned red and yellow,
25:22a couple other, like, smudges on his face and whatever.
25:25His singlet has, like, Renna on the front and Gade on the back.
25:30He's René G'day, as far as I'm concerned.
25:33The match begins, Heenan says Flair is possessed by Hogan, they're both doing it wrong.
25:38Flair tries to sneak in the ring, and Renegade scares him off and wags a finger.
25:42This sucks, do I focus on Hogan and Vader, or Flair and Renegade?
25:46Flair goes in the ring, Renegade thinks about it, but stops and lets Hogan stop him.
25:51Why are you there, then?
25:53Then on the outside, Flair runs away from the Renegade, what the fuck are we doing?
25:57Later on, Vader hits his bomb, there's no referee, apparently.
26:01Why don't we just have all four men in this thing at once?
26:04Renegade's only thing he's got in this match, when it's not punching people and standing around,
26:09it's just him going,
26:12Vader takes over with the strapations, dude.
26:15When a raggedy-ass, beat-up Jimmy Hart finally emerges, as if this segment needs more people!
26:20Hart distracts Vader, Vader grabs Hart, Renegade just fucking stands there like an idiot,
26:26Hogan hits Vader with the chair, why any of this?
26:28Hogan pulls Vader repeatedly into the ring post to start his comeback,
26:32they're fighting on the outside, we get another face-off with Flair and René Gaudet,
26:37Hogan pulls the strap back on Vader's taint and balls over and over again,
26:42go away, Flair, go away, Renegade, both of you get your asses to the back and go away,
26:48we don't want you here!
26:49At this point I'm going, where the hell is the referee?
26:52And only at this point on commentary, I think it's the first time they actually tell you,
26:56oh by the way, the rules of the strap match is you gotta touch all four corners.
27:00So anyway, this dogshit match continues,
27:03Vader splashes Hogan in the center of the ring,
27:05Tony is telling us on commentary,
27:07WCW is wiping their hands in this match,
27:09the hell you are WCW!
27:11Vader with the big suplex, but Hogan hymns up and gets to whipping,
27:15the boot, the leg drop, Hogan going to touch the corners,
27:19dragging Vader along the way,
27:20suddenly Vacant appears and decks René Gaudet with the chair,
27:24making him look like shit.
27:26Flair comes in with a chair shot attack of his own,
27:28it's two on one,
27:30Flair hitting René Gaudet with the chair as well,
27:33Vader seems to have the match won,
27:34but Flair wants him to do more damage from the second rope,
27:37Hogan moves,
27:39Vader, who is no longer attached to the strap, it's worth pointing out,
27:42is down,
27:43Flair gets another wooden chair,
27:44where are they getting these wooden chairs from?
27:46Hogan hymns up again,
27:48beats up Flair with a Yappa Pai strap number one dude,
27:51then he attaches Flair to the strap,
27:54drags him around and taps the four corners,
27:56and the match ends?
27:58But Vader's the opponent?
28:00And Flair's retired?
28:03And he's wearing eyeliner?
28:05Like, what the fuck?
28:07What is happening in this matchup?
28:10What are we witnessing?
28:12Vader and Flair come in to beat Hogan up,
28:14René Gaudet runs in with the chair,
28:16what a useless piece of shit he's being.
28:18The masked man comes back in,
28:19he's got a chair and seems to be on the baddie's side,
28:22but then Arn Anderson shows up tied up and waddling down the ramp.
28:26Then the other masked man,
28:28Dex Vader,
28:29and it's Randy Savage,
28:30what in God's name just happened?
28:32What a diabolical main event this was.
28:35I'm giving it negative four stars.
28:38Like, I love it for how bad it is,
28:40but I cannot in good faith heartily endorse this match either.
28:44It is such crap.
28:46They gave you four or five different storylines
28:51packed into one rancid turducken of a match.
28:55You've got Jimmy Hart missing.
28:56He shows up partway through the match.
28:58We have the ultimate surprise.
28:59It's René Gaudet.
29:00He looks like crap,
29:02and like,
29:02Flair's got to sell for him for 15, 20 minutes,
29:05and we have this whole back and forth with them.
29:07We've got one masked man.
29:09We have another masked man.
29:11It's such...
29:12And we have Flair.
29:12We have all these moving parts,
29:15and there's no referee,
29:16and like,
29:16it's such confusion.
29:17It's such bullshit.
29:19It's hilarious,
29:20but I hate it.
29:21That said,
29:22my review of WCW Uncensored 95 is an F for
29:27Fuck, I Hate This Show.
29:29I can remember renting the VHS for this
29:32very early in my fandom.
29:34Like, 1998,
29:35I was obsessed with wrestling.
29:36I was possessed, you might say,
29:38and I was just like,
29:39I was going to absorb whatever I could about wrestling,
29:41and I went to Hollywood Video,
29:42and I found Uncensored 1995.
29:44Sure, I'll watch it.
29:45It's got Hulk Hogan on it.
29:46It's got Savage,
29:47and then you're watching it,
29:48and like,
29:49it's funny how little I recall
29:51from that VHS.
29:53I remember a lot of what I watched
29:54back in my first year of wrestling,
29:55but like,
29:56except for King of the Road match,
29:57and then like,
29:58that concession stand brawl,
29:59which I forgot all these years later,
30:01like,
30:01where that was from.
30:03That's all I remember from watching
30:04on the VHS
30:05when I was like 13 or 14 years old,
30:07and man,
30:08like,
30:08none of this shit holds up.
30:09I think,
30:10you know,
30:11a card full of gimmick matches,
30:13we've seen that work before.
30:14We know that can work,
30:15and I think that some of these gimmick matches
30:17would have been better
30:18if they changed,
30:19like,
30:19everything about them.
30:20You know?
30:21There was a lot
30:22that could have been done differently,
30:24a lot that could have been done better,
30:25but man,
30:26like,
30:27so many whiffs,
30:28so many weird combinations,
30:30and so many stipulations
30:31that did not help
30:32the people involved.
30:34I think it's easily
30:35one of the worst
30:36executed pay-per-views
30:37I could see happening
30:38that didn't have
30:39a bunch of technical issues,
30:41and one with one of the most
30:43head-scratching
30:44and frustrating
30:45Lol Hogan wins moments
30:47I think I've ever seen.
30:49But next time
30:49in the classic pay-per-view review,
30:51we continue Hulkamania
30:53with arguably
30:54the high point
30:55of Hulk Hogan's
30:56WWE comeback
30:57as we look at the night
30:58he won
30:58the undisputed championship
31:00with Backlash 2002.
