00:05:28So here is Almanza there, 97 points

00:05:31off the World Championship lead.

00:05:33Not really thinking of a World Championship challenge.

00:05:35Of course, the illness and injury already this season

00:05:37has kind of put paid to that.

00:05:39It's potentially a Moto2 ride on offer

00:05:42for David Almanza, though.

00:05:43We did hear from Jurgen Ling yesterday

00:05:45who is certainly a senior in the Moto2 intact project

00:05:49with the likelihood that Manu Gonzalez

00:05:50is going to stick around in that team

00:05:52with a young rider likely to join him

00:05:54and the young rider from their own camp.

00:05:57The likeliest contender to that is Almanza,

00:05:59another opportunity to showcase his credentials today.

00:06:01Was fourth here last year.

00:06:02Almanza triumphed back-to-back podiums

00:06:05for the first time in his Grand Prix career.

00:06:07He'll have some stiff competition on that front row.

00:06:09They'll get alongside him.

00:06:10Morelli in second place,

00:06:11the 19-year-old Argentinian third front row.

00:06:15Second, well, two in the last three for Morelli.

00:06:18And here is Chiles there,

00:06:19who has impressed on his return.

00:06:21Of course, that plated and screwed right collarbone

00:06:23after the heavy crash he had

00:06:25on qualifying at Silversone.

00:06:27It really hasn't disrupted any kind of his speed

00:06:29or his rhythm, has it?

00:06:30A 156.390 getting himself on that front row

00:06:34in third place in what was a super, super tight Q2.

00:06:37Not even five hundredths of a second

00:06:39dividing Almanza, Morelli and Chiles on that front row.

00:06:43Yeah, and Max Chiles,

00:06:44despite having collarbone surgery

00:06:46exactly three weeks ago,

00:06:48do we expect Max Chiles to take any kind of backward step?

00:06:50I don't think we do.

00:06:52That is not really the Max Chiles way

00:06:56with a long lap penalty to serve is Brian Uriate.

00:08:17which is his best career run

00:08:19and a best qualifying for Bertelli

00:08:21since he was on pole position

00:12:04Pini, though, who's been out in qualifying one in the last couple of Grand Prix's.

00:12:08A timely return to Q2 for the 18-year-old Italian.

00:12:12He scored just five points in his last seven Grand Prix's has Pini.

00:12:17It's been a rather alarming slump since that breakthrough first victory at Austin in Texas.

00:12:22What a race that was when he pinched it at the very last corner.

00:12:25Five minutes, 10 and 2, we're underway in Chapter 13 in 2026.

00:12:30Blazing sunshine, scorching heat.

00:12:32It's going to be the order of the day.

00:12:34We're expecting ambient temperatures into the mid-30s,

00:12:37possibly a little bit more when the muddard GP riders go all-out attack here in Aragon at 2pm local

00:12:43time.

00:12:43We saw on screens earlier on that Marco Morelli is looking to become the first Argentinian winner in Moto3.

00:12:49So is Valentin Peroni, who starts from ninth on the grid and, of course,

00:12:52comes here off the back of a return to the podium, his first in 11, back in Silverstone last time

00:12:57out.

00:12:57That was, of course, from the front row.

00:12:59He comes from the back of row three this time, which he shares with Alvaro Carpe and Adrian Fernandez.

00:13:03Could he be the first Argentinian since Sebastián Porto back in 2004 to have back-to-back Grand Prix podiums?

00:13:10That is an accolade that Peroni is chasing from the back of that third row.

00:13:14A third row which also features Carpe and Adrian Fernandez.

00:13:18Carpe second, a quick reminder, in the World Championship, 146 points for Carpe.

00:13:23Second place, still knocking on the door of that first win here in Moto3.

00:13:37He goes away from third.

00:13:4385 points clear at the top of the Championship is Chiles.

00:13:46Alongside him, his teammate from the Aspire Camp, Marco Morelli.

00:13:49But it has been David Almanza's weekend so far here in Aragon.

00:14:35Before we find Jesus Rios, his fifth top ten qualifying of the year.

00:14:45Joel Kelso is 15th ahead of Cormac Buchanan, who had a big crash yesterday.

00:14:57He's head of UC Yamanaka and Scott Ogden.

00:15:00Vader Pratama, his worst qualifying so far as a Moto3 rider.

00:15:0322nd ahead of Roussie Mugli, Leo Ramastorfer, Zen Mitani and Nicola Carraro.

00:15:08Every rider in the field is on the medium for a medium rear combination,

00:15:12with the exception of Mitani and Carraro at the back of the grid, who are on the soft front.

00:15:16Well, Chiles was so good in the first half of this 2026 campaign.

00:15:20He had the luxury of missing one Grand Prix and still holding that commanding 85-point lead

00:15:26in the World Championship.

00:15:28So much anticipation, so much excitement and expectation ahead of Chiles' move up to Moto2 next year.

00:15:35He'll be partnering Celestino Vietti.

00:15:37David Almanza, can he leave Aragon, taking second place away from Carpe in the Championship?

00:15:43Golden, golden opportunity this, isn't it, for Almanza, as Ariati once again rehearses his long lap.

00:15:50Pretty close to the white line on the outside there, wasn't he?

00:15:53That looked all relatively clean, neat and tidy.

00:15:57Marco Morelli there, just moving through your picture on the 97th Aspard machine,

00:16:01second on the grid for Morelli.

00:16:04Silverstone 16th, he was AWOL, wasn't he, for much of that British Grand Prix weekend.

00:16:07Only the fourth time in 20 appearances, he has failed to score a point,

00:16:12ending what was a really impressive run of Morelli.

00:16:14He'd been scoring points in 14 successive Grand Prixs,

00:16:17dating all the way back to Sepang last year.

00:16:19So, a bit of a blip for the Argentine, let's see what he can do.

00:16:24KTM, the big favourites here in Aragon.

00:16:27Seven KTMs occupying the top seven places on the grid.

00:16:31The only Honda that's qualified inside, or two Hondas inside the top ten.

00:16:35Fernandes in eighth place on the Leopard Honda,

00:16:38and keep an eye on Rios, River Colt Snipers team star there,

00:16:42in tenth spot on the grid.

00:16:44He's, of course, a regular frontrunner in recent years,

00:16:46in the Junior World Championship, of which they race here at Aragon,

00:16:50so he knows this circuit awfully well.

00:16:52David Almanza, though, knows it well as well.

00:16:55Fastest in every session he's competed in so far,

00:16:57but the points up for grabs now.

00:16:59This is where David has to deliver.

00:17:01Can he be the 24th different rider to win back-to-back races

00:17:04in the Moto3 World Championship?

00:17:06He's the big favourite, gets himself ready in the zone.

00:17:09There's been so many injury problems, so many illness issues,

00:17:13severe bouts of tonsillitis for Almanza to deal with

00:17:16in the first half of the season.

00:17:17We'll be hoping that they're all firmly behind him.

00:17:19Distant memories now, as he looks forward and looks to the future,

00:17:22looking forward to clear tarmac.

00:17:24Headed on that short run down to the first corner here,

00:17:27around the Aragon circuit, measuring just over five kilometres in length.

00:17:30It's fast, it's technical.

00:17:32Who's going to be the fastest rider in Moto3 here, though, in Chapter 13?

00:17:36Lights out, we're racing in Moto3 here in Aragon.

00:17:38Not a great start by Kiles from that front row of the grid.

00:17:41Brilliant, though, by Almanza, who charges away from pole position.

00:17:44He will lead Morelli then into the first corner.

00:17:46Kiles almost running to the back of Morelli on the run down to that first turn,

00:17:50but it's as you were, really.

00:17:51It is Almanza, Morelli and Kiles, first, second and third,

00:17:55just as they were on the grid.

00:17:56Yeah, I don't know if my eyes were playing tricks on me,

00:17:57and there was a slight move from Almanza there before the lights went out.

00:18:00Hopefully, in face body view, that wasn't the case.

00:18:01The big move behind is from the two Red Bull KTM IO machines.

00:18:04They've both cleared, Adrian Cruz says.

00:18:06They're now up into fourth and fifth.

00:18:08So the dream start to what has so far been a dream weekend for Almanza.

00:18:13He's coming under immediate pressure.

00:18:15Bit of drama further back, yellow flags out at turns four and five.

00:18:18A tight first sector, particularly when the field is all bunched together

00:18:21on the very early laps, when Almanza will lead them down into eight and nine.

00:18:25Another big loser is Bertelli who's lost places.

00:18:26That's Cruz says coming back through there on Alvaro Carpe to retake fifth place.

00:18:30It's Carraro right at the back of the field who has gone down.

00:18:33No information yet as to whether he's on his own or whether he's taken someone with him,

00:18:36but there is the Italian up on his feet.

00:18:38He's having a nightmare.

00:18:3920-26 is Carraro qualifying in 26.

00:18:42Last on the grid in four of the last five.

00:18:45Almanza going ultra defensive there.

00:18:46Tight inside lines.

00:18:47He drops down into the heavy braking zone of 12.

00:18:51That's Carpe back through on Cruz says.

00:18:53Those two have already exchanged about three or four overtakes on this first lap.

00:18:56And that's a beautiful move by Uriate.

00:18:58Lovely that by Uriate.

00:18:59Instant revenge though coming from the rally.

00:19:01What an early lap this is between those two.

00:19:03Uriate gave a bit of a dress rehearsal for that one in qualifying yesterday.

00:19:06He put that move on Almanza in the early stages of Q2.

00:19:09So that has been coming from Brian Uriate who needs to make early progress of course with his long lap

00:19:14to come.

00:19:14Vitelli down five.

00:19:16Fourth to nine.

00:19:17Not the start he was hoping for here in this Aragon Grand Prix.

00:19:20Quiles with the slipstream on Almanza.

00:19:23Not quite close enough to attack him in the hardest braking zone into turn.

00:19:2716 now the long seemingly endless two left-hands of 16 and 17.

00:19:31Almanza's got great drive.

00:19:32He will lead them at the end of this first lap in Aragon.

00:19:35And already this leading group of what six riders are starting to distance themselves.

00:19:38Because Peroni leads the second group.

00:19:40He's in seventh place and already with seven tenths of a second to make up.

00:19:44As Morelli favours the middle of the racetrack to fend off any overtaking manoeuvre from the two IO KTMs right

00:19:50behind him.

00:19:50Yeah, Cruz has got to be careful.

00:19:51He's not going to get detached from this lead group early on.

00:19:54And they now climb up the hill through the right-hander of turn three.

00:19:58Then left through four and five.

00:19:59But we lost Carraro on the opening lap.

00:20:02The Almanza start was absolutely fine, by the way.

00:20:04If there was any movement, he was clearly staged through by the time the lights went out,

00:20:08which is all you need to be.

00:20:09And at the moment, he is in position A.

00:20:11He's not pulling away yet.

00:20:12And there's a potential swap to the two Aspar riders who perhaps need to just work together here at the

00:20:17moment

00:20:17and just make sure they keep Almanza in check.

00:20:20Further down, O'Gorman just taken 13th away from Peeney.

00:20:24Red Bull KTM Tech 3 action going on further down in this lead group.

00:20:28This is Uriate toughing it out with Karte once again.

00:20:32Cruises is getting himself dragged back into contention here as well.

00:20:35Sam Meller and Peroni also along for the ride as well.

00:20:38Yeah, Battelli a big loser as you can see on the left-hand side of your screens.

00:20:41Down seven places on the first lap.

00:20:43So the Italian who started on the front of the second row is now down in P11.

00:20:47And a nightmare for him.

00:20:48He's in danger of getting detached from this leading group.

00:20:51Almanza versus Chiles.

00:20:53We've had this road yet before, haven't we, in 2026.

00:20:56That's how the season started in such dramatic fashion.

00:20:59Such an epic battle those two had at Borougham.

00:21:02Almanza has looked mustered all weekend so far.

00:21:04He has not yet seen anybody to retire at the start of this Grand Prix.

00:21:08He gets great drive out of Turn 15.

00:21:09There's nothing that Chiles can do in the slips because Almanza's pickup on the throttle out of 15 is so

00:21:15good.

00:21:15Uriate is running clearly pretty good too.

00:21:17He's now in the slipstream of Morelli's KTM.

00:21:20They've had battles around here before, of course, in the Moto Junior World Championship.

00:21:25But it's Uriate now up into third place.

00:21:28Remember, long lap penalty still to come.

00:21:30He and Eddie O'Shea will have to serve those.

00:21:32That's going to feed him somewhere into the midfield.

00:21:34Fastest rider on circuit is Leopard Honda's Adrian Fernandes.

00:21:38As they fan out now, you can see their crew sets on the inside of Carpe.

00:21:42That's nice on the brakes into that first corner.

00:21:44Fernandes in quickies ride on circuit at 157.0340.

00:21:48He looks to fight his way through from eighth.

00:21:49Only now have they given the instructions.

00:21:52It's on our timing screens.

00:21:53It's now on your screens on the left-hand side of their names as well.

00:21:56Long lap penalty for Uriate and O'Shea.

00:21:58So from now, they have three laps to serve that penalty.

00:22:02Uriate now back behind Marco Morelli, who's taken third place back again.

00:22:06So it's Almanza from a pair of Aspar KTMs and then a pair of Io KTMs, fourth and fifth.

00:22:11Was that Fernandes trying to send it on the inside of Cruces?

00:22:14I think it might have been, yeah.

00:22:15Yeah, Fernandes got through on Cruces.

00:22:17That's a lovely move.

00:22:18Fernandes is making big headway early on here as Morelli goes the wrong way.

00:22:22But keep an eye on Fernandes on that Leopard Honda.

00:22:24Ladies' victim is Cruces.

00:22:25He's got through on.

00:22:26And now I think he has picked off.

00:22:27And you get Perrone as well.

00:22:29Was it Carpe into the reverse course crew?

00:22:31Fernandes on the charge here.

00:22:32Yeah, you've got Perrone.

00:22:34Yeah, and Morelli made a complete mess of Turn 7.

00:22:36He didn't exceed track limits because the tarmac's red out there.

00:22:38But as the indication is, clearly slow out there.

00:22:41That's why it's not a track limits violation.

00:22:43And Morelli proving the point there by losing two places.

00:22:46Really aggressive.

00:22:47This third lap of 17 from Fernandes.

00:22:50He's up from eighth to sixth.

00:22:51And we know he's the quickest rider out on circuit.

00:22:53As we go, that's Cormac Buchanan.

00:22:56Well, Cormac Buchanan, unfortunately, you know a rider's engine

00:22:59when they're not immediately quickly back on their feet.
