🇮🇳 KAZIRANGA CONTROVERSY EXPLAINED

A major controversy is growing around Kaziranga National Park in Assam after the state government proposed reducing the Eco-Sensitive Zone around the park from the default 10 km to around 1–3 km in site-specific areas.

The proposal has triggered strong political and environmental debate. Critics argue that a narrower protective zone could increase pressure from development and affect wildlife corridors, while the Assam government says the boundaries should take local conditions, terrain, wildlife movement and the interests of nearby villagers into account.

The controversy has now reached the streets, with protests being held against the proposed reduction. At the same time, concerns have also been raised over alleged hill-cutting activities in the Karbi Hills adjoining Kaziranga.

🦏 So, is this a necessary step for local development — or a serious threat to Kaziranga’s fragile ecosystem?

Watch the full story and decide for yourself.
