00:27Venezuela's Acta Impresion de Celererías
00:29reaffirmed the Venezuelan state's sovereignty over its natural resources, within the framework
00:33of the oil agreement with the United States.
00:43The South Front, the devastating flash flows in Nepal, has risen to 788, with 3,000 people
00:49still missing, according to authorities.
00:56The Iranian government denied U.S. statements regarding unleashed normal flow of oil tankers
01:01through the southern route of the Strait of Hormuz.
01:16Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Sophie Fernandez from the Telesur Studios in Caracas,
01:20Venezuela. We begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:37Venezuela's Acta Impresion de Celererías reaffirmed the Venezuelan state's sovereignty over its
01:41natural resources, within the framework of the oil agreement with the United States.
01:45She stated that the country will use capital, technology and operational capacity to drive
01:51the recovery of energy industry, which has been hard hit by years of sanctions.
01:55Rorias emphasized that the country seeks to become an energy powerhouse by leveraging its oil
02:00and gas reserves through diplomacy and bilateral cooperation. Rorias expressed her gratitude for
02:05the efforts of the parties involved in reaching the agreement, making it clear that Venezuela's
02:10sovereignty over its resources is non-negotiable.
02:24I would like to thank President Donald Trump, Secretary Rubio, and his administration for the efforts made by
02:29both his administration and ours, as well as the entire Venezuelan team that dedicated their time to reaching
02:35this agreement. But there is one thing that must be absolutely clear. Venezuela retains ownership and
02:40sovereignty over its resources while you provide capital, technology and operational capability to
02:45drive the recovery of a strategic industry that has been hard hit by sanctions.
02:51Venezuela's Acta Impresion de Celererías
02:55And Venezuela's Acta Impresion de Celererías explained that the agreement with the United States
03:00calls for each party to make significant contributions with the goal of increasing production to 1.5
03:06million boroughs per day.
03:14This agreement is based on a very simple premise. Each party contributes what it does best. Venezuela
03:19contributes oil, its industry, and the experience of its workers accumulated over more than 100 years.
03:25The United States contributes the capital and technology needed to recover and develop those assets.
03:36In return, Venezuela receives production, jobs, investment in infrastructure, increased revenue for the state,
03:43and value chains for domestic industry. The benefits are endless.
03:53This binational project signed for 25 years calls for the development of 17 strategic fields with a production
03:59target exceeding 1.5 million barrels per day.
04:07And Venezuela's Minister of Communities, Social Movements and Urban Agriculture, Ángel Prado,
04:13emphasizes that the agreement on hydrocarbons between the Venezuelan government and the United States
04:17does not imply surrender, and Venezuela will continue to demand an end to sanctions by the U.S. government.
04:26Our president, Delcy Rodriguez, has very dignifiedly acknowledged that, well, the United States of America has an infrastructure
04:34suitable for the type of energy resources, comparable to the type of oil we have here in Venezuela.
04:41And what the president said was, we are going to continue selling our oil.
04:45This is by no means giving in, by no means surrendering.
04:49We, the people, together with the government, will be very vigilant to ensure that the agreements are fulfilled,
04:56exactly as they were signed and established.
04:58And we will continue to demand an end to the blockade against our country.
05:02And we will continue to demand the release of our president, Nicolas Maduro, and First Lady Celia Flores.
05:09And we want to be happy. We want to work.
05:12And if the time comes to share our wealth with the world, our energy resources will be the foundation of
05:17respect and recognition.
05:22Also Angel Prada, Venezuela's Minister for Communities, Social Movements, and Urban Agriculture,
05:27welcomed the start of the election campaign for the popular consultation,
05:31scheduled for October 18th, and highlighted President Delcy Rodriguez's call
05:34to protect the popular organization as the foundation of Bolivarian Revolution.
05:39We have decided to kick off this new election campaign for the popular consultation, which we will hold on October
05:4718th in Zulia.
05:49President Delcy Rodriguez has said that this is one of our top priorities and the most precious thing we must
05:55protect at this stage,
05:56especially within the popular organization.
05:58We will be engaging with many countries and world powers around the globe.
06:03We will be preparing to address public service issues, to address the economy,
06:07to properly address so many things that have stopped receiving funding in the country.
06:11But the President has told us we must take care of the popular organization.
06:16That is the foundation that supports our revolution and guarantees the continuity of our historic Bolivarian project.
06:23And we are starting with Zulia, because Zulia is where there are the most communes,
06:27and you could say it's where the most organized communes in Venezuela are found.
06:32This commune reclaimed the governor's office of Zulia, reclaimed many mayoralties, and this commune is moving forward.
06:43And Venezuelan Congressman Joel Cedeño noted that the agreement reached between the governments of Venezuela and the United States
06:49will allow the country to generate greater investment for economic recovery and circumvent the coercive measures imposed by the White
06:56House.
07:00It has been a huge step forward, the agreement reached by Acting President Delcy Rodriguez,
07:05that will allow us to open the door to social investment, generate greater investment for economic recovery,
07:09following several years of a blockade and unilateral coercive measures that led to a decline in our country's basic energy
07:15services.
07:21And today we can say that this progress in discussions regarding this bilateral agreement between the United States and Venezuela
07:27may allow us to overcome those coercive measures imposed by the world's most powerful arms-trading empire.
07:37And the governments of Venezuela and South Africa strengthen their strategic alliance in a new chapter of solidarity among the
07:43peoples of the Global South.
07:44Venezuelan Foreign Minister Felix Plasencia had a telephone conversation with South African counterpart Ronald Lamola,
07:52in which both reaffirmed the strong historical ties that unite the two nations.
07:56During conversation, they agreed to establish the first Binational Joint Commission,
08:00a key mechanism for unleashing the full potential of their political, commercial, and cooperative relations.
08:05This reaffirment reinforces their shared commitment to solidarity and sovereign development, free from the agendas of hegemonic powers.
08:39On the other hand,
08:40Venezuelan acting president de Cerrerías visited La Guayra State to deliver 210 fully rehabilitated apartments to families affected by the
08:48dual earthquakes under the Venezuela Rises Plan.
08:50The recovery effort involved the comprehensive structural reinforcement,
08:55seismic engineering inspections, and infrastructure upgrades across nine five-story buildings damaged during the June 24 earthquakes.
09:02Executive authorities highlighted that nearly 32% of the earthquake debris has been cleared across La Guayra,
09:08while technical teams have conducted more than 61,000 structural housing assessments.
09:13Government officials reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing housing construction, rental assistance, and urban restoration
09:19to ensure all displaced families permanently return to safe housing.
09:30We are handing over 210 homes that have been renovated through the Venezuela Rises Plan.
09:37But beyond those 210 renovated homes,
09:43what matters most is how many mothers, children, grandfathers, grandmothers, men, and women are returning to their homes.
09:52People who spent two months away from home and are now experiencing the joy of coming back.
09:58A home that was renovated and restored by the Venezuela Rises Plan.
10:04In other news, Brazil commemorated National Lesbian Visibility Day with protests and debates in Rio de Janeiro,
10:10highlighting the historical journey of the movement and the fundamental role of women of African descent in the struggle for
10:16their rights.
10:16Various collectives denounced the persistent marginalization suffered by the community
10:21and demanded that their demands be given priority in public budgets, labor market, and comprehensive health care.
10:28The activists warned of the constant threat from Bolsonaro supporting far-right sectors,
10:32whose conservative policies seek to limit the social achievements and civil rights gained by the LGBTQ plus community in recent
10:39decades.
10:46And now we have a short break coming up.
10:48But first, remember you can join us on TikTok at El Azur English,
10:51where you will find news in different formats, news updates, and more.
10:54We'll be right back. Stay with us.
11:07Welcome back to From the South.
11:08We continue in the United States, where one police officer was killed and another was injured during a shooting in
11:14a park in South Carolina.
11:15The officers had responded to a report of domestic violence, and the suspect was also shot and killed at the
11:21scene.
11:22According to authorities, a woman reported that a man who was subject to a restraining order was causing damage to
11:28her property.
11:29The officers relocated the vehicle near a park, and as they approached, a gunshot ensued.
11:34Officer Christopher DeLong, 29 years old and the father of two children, was taken to a hospital but died from
11:40his injuries.
11:41Another officer was injured.
11:42According to records from the gun violence archive, an independent investigation dedicated to research on firearms in the United States,
11:49so far in 2026, there have been more than 8,500 deaths, nearly 15,800 injuries, and 315 mass shootings
11:58in the country.
12:05And in northern Cyprus, a ferry carrying over 260 people capsized off the coast, causing the deaths of seven people.
12:13Local authorities reported that 237 people had been rescued, while another 23 were still missing.
12:19Local media reports the ship started sinking around 50 meters after departure from the coastal town of Kyrenia, earlier today.
12:28Its final destination was the Turkish part of Tazuku.
12:31As the ferry began taking water, the captain issued a distress call, prompting the Coast Guard and port authorities to
12:37dispatch rescue teams to the area.
12:39Videos posted on social media showed the upside-down ferry in the water, with people wearing live vests atop a
12:45storage full.
12:46Authorities have emphasized that rescue operations are still underway.
12:50So far, the cause of the incident is still unknown, but authorities are investigating.
13:01In the northern Swiss canton of Argal, a rave shooting was caused the death of one person at least five
13:07injured, according to local police reports.
13:10Cantonal police reported on X that a 22-year-old woman died of injuries at the scene.
13:15Four men and one woman, between 24 and 27-year-old, were taken to a hospital with injuries ranging from
13:21minor to severe.
13:22Police were alerted around 2.30 a.m. to the shooting in the canton's capital, Argal, 46 kilometers west of
13:29Zurich.
13:29A major police operation was still underway on Sunday afternoon, and locals were asked to stay away from the areas
13:35scored by investigations for possible links connected to the offense.
13:39So far, the circumstances and the moods for the crime still remain unclear.
13:44Security forces in Freiburg, in neighboring Germany, are also taking part in search efforts for the suspect.
13:58Currently, the large-scale manhunt is ongoing through Switzerland.
14:01The investigations are on the way, particularly at the crime scene, which is why the Remain Corden, a thorough process
14:07of securing evidence and getting proof,
14:09is taking place to quickly gain insights that can be fed back into the investigations.
14:15In such situations, it is always imperative to immediately notify neighboring areas, neighboring cantos, in our case Germany as well,
14:23to request their assistance in supporting the search.
14:26This has been done and is currently underway.
14:29However, at present, we have no information on the exact whereabouts of the perpetrators.
14:47The last toll from devastating flash flows in Nepal has risen to 788, with an estimated 3,000 people still
14:53missing.
14:54Nepal's National Disaster Rest Reduction and Management Authority reported the figures on Sunday.
14:59Meanwhile, the Nepali Tourism Board said 261 foreign tourists have been rescued as of Saturday evening, while 320 remain missing.
15:07On the other hand, a search is underway for more than 900 missing workers at various hydro-powered projects in
15:13Nepal.
15:13Meanwhile, a landslide detected Saturday evening created a new barrier lake on a river near the disaster zone, prompting the
15:20evacuation of rescuers in China.
15:22Heavy mud and sediment continue to block access to some areas, making rescue operations extremely difficult.
15:34A residents in Nepal's Dunding District were moved to safer areas early Sunday, after authorities warned of a possible new
15:42surge of water in the Botecoche River.
15:44Dharam Harajupretti, chief executive of Nepal's National Disaster Rest Reduction and Management Authority, said the alert following information from Chinese
15:53authorities, indicating increased water flow upstream.
15:56In this context, authorities issued early morning alerts for the districts of Hrasuwa, Newarkot and Dadin, urging residents to stay
16:04alert.
16:05In Hrasuwa, local officials reported hearing the sound of a powerful source in the river, raising concerns about the renewed
16:11flooding.
16:12Rescue teams and authorities are continuing to monitor conditions as residents in affected areas remain at risk.
16:25We got the SMS alert from the fraud control department and local police and army personnel inform us that there
16:38is a fraud coming, second phase of fraud.
16:41There is some deposit and that is dropped and the fraud is coming, go to the safe place, that's why
16:48we came to some height from the ground level.
16:59People living near the riverbanks have been asked to move away, because the danger of flood has increased from above.

17:35Welcome back to From the South.
17:37The Iranian government denied U.S. statements regarding an alleged normal flow of oil tankers through the sudden route of
17:43the Strait Formos.
17:44According to Iranian authorities, claims circulated by Washington are intended to manipulate international energy prices and conceal the effectiveness of
17:53the blockades imposed on Tehran.
17:55The Iranian security source stated that operations to keep the strategic passage closed remain active and noted that deteriorating vessels
18:02following Iran's warnings demonstrates the actual situation in the area.
18:06The Iranian government argued that the rising fuel prices in the U.S. market contradicts Washington's reports of alleged normal
18:13navigation conditions.
18:22In this context, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Qasem Garibavadi said Saturday that Tehran is in no rush to reopen the
18:29Strait Formos, despite an understanding reached with Oman regarding the strategic waterway.
18:35Garibavadi said the understanding with Oman will not move into the implementation phase unless the United States fulfills its obligations.
18:42Garibavadi also claimed that no vessel can pass through the Strait Formos without coordination and permission from Iran.
18:54In other news, this Sunday, Icelanders rejected in a referendum the proposal to resume negotiations for joining the European Union,
19:01with 52.5% of votes against and 47.5% in favor, according to the counting results, near 90%.
19:10The result, although closed, keeps the country out of the EU and once again closes the door to possible European
19:16integration.
19:17The referendum was marked by debate over the economy, the cost of living and the strategic implications of possible joining
19:23the region's strategic bloc.
19:25Opposition was stronger in rural areas, while Reyyjavik accounted for much of the support for reopening talks with Brussels.
19:52In Mexico, hundreds of Michael Jackson fans gathered Saturday to honor the King of Pop on what would have been
19:58his 68th birthday.
20:00At the I Do Dance Thriller 2026 event, participants performed the song's iconic choreography after weeks of rehearsals.
20:08Michael Jackson impersonators also took the stage, while fans dressed as the singer or as zombies inspired by the Thriller
20:14music video.
20:15Jackson was born on August 29, 1958 and died in 2009 at the age of 50.
20:21Released in 1983, Thriller sold more than 20 million copies that year alone.
20:28The song as his music video helped Jackson become the first major bloc artist to have a video played on
20:33MTV and influenced generations of performers.
20:36For fans, recreating the choreography was a special way to celebrate his life and legacy.
20:48Always enjoy Michael Jackson's music. There is always a song that transports us to a magical place, reminds us of
20:55something wonderful or makes us feel something wonderful.
20:59Michael Jackson's music is the best.
21:04Since it's his 68th birthday, Michael would have turned 68 for me. This is a truly beautiful way to celebrate
21:11his life.
21:15I would like to say thank you, thank you for saving me.
21:18Michael saved me from a very difficult time.
