00:08This is the Trishuli River in Baton in the fall.
00:12On Wednesday morning, just as school was starting,
00:14a flood wave up to 30 metres high and travelling at speeds of up to 75 kilometres per hour
00:20ripped around that bend, taking away two bridges and destroying every single house on the riverbank.
00:26It also destroyed the town's school, where headmaster Rovendra Dashimi saved the lives of 1,643 kids
00:35by leaving them from that space there, across town, to that high ground up there.

00:46The three-storey school has vanished off the face of the earth.
00:50Not a trace remains after Nepal's deadly flash flood washed it away.
00:55Just before that happened, though, Dadaabi had rung the bell, sent pupils and staff to high ground
01:00and even had the presence of mind to call inbound bus drivers and tell them to turn back.
01:06Thanks to Dadaabi's quick thinking and decisive leadership,
01:10not one of the 1,643 students was lost.
01:14Nepalese are hailing him as a hero.
