Department of Education Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara on Monday, Aug. 31, urged parents and guardians to take an active role in preventing school violence, stressing that learner protection must begin at home and extend beyond the classroom.

Angara encouraged families to talk to their children daily, listen to their concerns, closely monitor them, and maintain regular communication with teachers and school officials. He said the home is the country’s “first line of defense” against school violence.
