00:00Samsung just dropped One UI 9, their big Android 17 update, and yeah, I know some of you literally
00:05just got One UI 8.5, but let's still check out all the new features and see what's new.
00:09The first big new thing that really caught my eye is this new feature called Driving
00:13Report.
00:14Basically, One UI can now analyze how well you drive and let you know whether or not
00:18you're a bad driver.
00:19Here's how it works.
00:20Every time you jump in your car and your phone connects to your car's Bluetooth speaker,
00:23it starts tracking your trip automatically.
00:25You'll even see a live notification that literally tracks everything and shows you
00:29how long you've been on the road.
00:31And then once you finish your trip, it'll give you an overview of how many times you accelerated
00:35too fast, did any sharp turns, how many times you used your phone too while driving.
00:41Yeah, that's in there.
00:42It shows you the fastest speed you hit, and there's a lot more.
00:45Then at the end of each week, Samsung even compiles an entire report that just breaks down
00:49your entire driving habits.
00:51It also highlights any patterns and notices and even offers suggestions on what you could
00:55do to improve your driving.
00:57Honestly, it's not a bad feature at all.
00:59Another new thing in One UI 9 is that in the camera, Samsung also introduced a new way to
01:03record videos using both cameras at the same time.
01:06Basically, you can shoot in this vertical format with the front and back cameras showing side
01:10by side in the viewfinder, and you can still zoom with the rear camera while you're recording
01:14too.
01:15You'll even find it in the dual recording menu inside video mode.
01:18Just keep in mind that it only goes up to 1080p recording, nothing higher.
01:22Another thing I noticed throughout One UI 9 is that Samsung made a ton of small tweaks
01:26to make the entire interface just feel cleaner and just easier to navigate.
01:30For example, a lot of the menus that used to have descriptions underneath each option now
01:34just show the title.
01:36And I like that because it just makes everything feel less cluttered.
01:39Also, some big groups that were just all clumped together now have their own sections
01:42and are separated so everything feels a bit more organized.
01:46Plus, stuff got condensed too.
01:47I mean, certain cards and drop-down menus are squished down to save space, so you don't
01:52have to scroll as much, and you can see more items on the screen at once.
01:55Plus, there are other minor visual redesigns all over the place.
01:58I mean, some widgets look different, some cards and settings have fresh new drawings,
02:03and even the tiniest icons too have changed.
02:05Samsung is really polishing up every little detail, and even though this next one that I'm
02:10about to talk about technically arrived in One UI 8.5, I still want to mention it for anyone
02:14who missed it. Samsung has basically switched over to these floating pill-shaped bottom bars
02:18throughout many of its apps and system menus, whether it's a search bar or a tab bar.
02:23Personally, I love the new look. It just feels a lot cleaner, more modern,
02:27and because the bar isn't attached to the edge of the screen anymore,
02:30you actually get to see a little more of the app itself too.
02:33Now, the feature that got the biggest makeover though in One UI 9 is definitely the quick settings panel.
02:38First off, the music player looks a lot different now.
02:41Samsung updated the icons, rearranged a few of the text and certain elements,
02:45and the big eye-catcher is this new colorful waveform animation that just pops up whenever you start
02:51playing music. It just looks really nice, especially inside the now bar on the lock screen.
02:56And as for the rest of the quick settings panel, things are a lot more customizable too.
03:00For example, the brightness and volume sliders are just much thicker and finally have their own
03:04dedicated space, meaning that before, the brightness slider had the dark mode toggle attached to it,
03:10and the volume slider had the sound profile stuck to it too.
03:13But now they're completely separate, just to give you that extra bit of customization.
03:17You can also resize pretty much everything too, however you want, including the sliders,
03:21and even the music player can be resized in a bunch of different ways as well.
03:26Oh, and by the way, even though this also came in One UI 8.5, this next one,
03:30I just want to appreciate just how awesome it is to add a new quick settings tile now with this
03:34new menu.
03:35To be fair, it has a lot of resemblance to iOS, but hey, it's still a really nice direction,
03:40since just finding certain tiles, especially within apps, is just a lot easier now.
03:45From there, when it comes to browsing the internet, Samsung's browser now has an even better AI feature
03:50that lets you ask anything about the page that you're currently on.
03:53So if you have questions about an article you're reading, you can just ask the AI directly.
03:58Before, it would only allow you to have three buttons, which are summarize, translate, or read highlights,
04:03and you still have those, but now it's a lot more powerful with that extra text field.
04:08Plus, another cool addition is that you can now open multiple browser windows as their own separate apps.
04:13That means you can switch between them in your phone's recent page, not just inside the browser itself.
04:18It's really handy.
04:19Then there's this really small change that I also really appreciate.
04:22Basically, if you bring up the power menu and then you back out of it, the phone will immediately lock
04:27itself.
04:27And to go back into your phone, you can't even use your biometrics either.
04:30You'll have to re-enter your passcode or your pattern.
04:33And if you try to restart your phone too or power it off, you'll also have to type in your
04:37password.
04:38It's just a nice extra layer of security.
04:40In the settings, there's also a new menu that's supposed to show you all the apps that you installed
04:44outside the Play Store or Galaxy Store from an unknown source or just any unknown source.
04:49Personally though, my menu is completely empty, even though my phone is filled with a bunch of siloed apps from
04:55random sources.
04:55But still, I can see this being really handy in the future.
04:59If you're a big gamer, Samsung's gaming mode just got a whole lot better too.
05:02Because within their game booster panel, you'll be able to customize a lot more things.
05:06You'll be able to change the resolution and several other performance related options.
05:11It's not a massive headline feature, but it's definitely a welcome addition for anyone who spends a lot of time
05:15gaming on their phone.
05:17Phone calls are also getting a lot better and more secure in One UI.
05:19Now, even though this next one also got released in 8.5, I do want to mention it just in
05:24case that you didn't know about it.
05:25But basically, your Galaxy will do a much better job of detecting scammers.
05:30So, while you're on a call, it uses AI to listen in and try to catch common scam tactics like
05:34someone pressuring you to send money.
05:36Maybe give them your password or just share personal info and it'll warn you in real time before you fall
05:42for it.
05:42And of course, if you're not comfortable with that and you just don't want AI analyzing your calls, you can
05:47just turn that feature off.
05:48Now, the second feature that is coming to One UI 9 is that if someone calls you on a different
05:52app like WhatsApp, Google Meet or Telegram,
05:55it'll now show up in the recent call page of the phone app too.
05:58Just keeping all your calls in one spot, no matter what third-party app you use.
06:02It's pretty great.
06:03Now, before moving on, there are just so many crazy drivers out there nowadays that I had to get a
06:08dash cam on my car.

07:04and then it just lets me transfer wirelessly at pretty fast speeds of up to 20 megabits per second.
07:09I don't even need to pull out the SD card.
07:11Plus, I especially love that in each clip, I can see where I was driving on a map and how
07:15fast I was going to.
07:16Plus, other amazing extras is that I can control both cameras from the front display.
07:20It's also got voice control, so I can just tell it to do things hands-free.
07:24Kind of like this.
07:25Take picture.
07:28Show rear camera.
07:30And I don't even have to worry about the cameras overheating, too, because they use a super capacitor
07:34instead of a traditional battery.
07:36And for those curious, it even operates smoothly from negative 20 degrees Celsius to 70 degrees Celsius.
07:41It's even past 24-hour continuous heat and cold testing, too.

08:04Back to OneUI 9, Samsung also introduced a new way to block any app on your phone
08:08from accessing the internet, but it's really hidden.
08:11So here's how you do it.
08:12You just go into the settings and then you search for Intelligent Wi-Fi.
08:16From there, you can tap on Intelligent Wi-Fi multiple times,
08:19and then a hidden menu will appear called Connectivity Labs.
08:22In there, you'll find a bunch of new Wi-Fi network options,
08:25but the new one in OneUI 9 is called Network Restrictions.
08:29You can tap that and in there you can block any app from using the internet.
08:33It's actually pretty useful for apps that don't need an internet connection to begin with,
08:36like offline games, maybe alarm apps,
08:39or just anything else that you'd rather keep from constantly phoning home.
08:43Samsung Dex also picked up a few nice quality of life upgrades.
08:46For example, you can now move app windows between different desktops directly from the menu
08:51at the top of the window.
08:53It just makes multitasking way easier.
08:55They also added desktop previews to the recent screen,
08:57so you can just jump between your desktops with one tap
08:59instead of hunting around for the right one.
09:02Location permissions also got improved.
09:04Firstly, whenever an app tries to access your location,
09:06you'll now see a new blue dot in the top right corner.
09:09If you pull down the notification shade and tap it,
09:12you'll be able to see exactly which apps are using your location,
09:15and even close them right then and there.
09:18It's basically the same privacy indicator system that Android already uses for the camera
09:22and the microphone.
09:23Then another improvement with the location is that the permission menu itself
09:26also got a better and more squared off look.
09:29I think it looks really nice,
09:31and technically both of these are actually Android 17 features
09:33rather than Samsung exclusive features,
09:36so they'll likely show up on other Android phones too.
09:39And by the way, I actually made an entire video covering all of Android 17's new features,

09:48And as usual with every update,
09:50the accessibility menu brings a few new things.
09:52In One UI 9, there's a new feature called Text Spotlight
09:55that lets you tap on any text anywhere on the screen,
09:58and it'll instantly enlarge it in a separate window,
10:00making it just a lot easier to read.
10:03Samsung also added more accessibility shortcuts for physical keyboards,
10:06including the ability to control your mouse cursor using the number pad,
10:10and you'll be able to adjust the cursor speed and acceleration too.
10:14And from there, there's also a new accessibility feature called Select to Speak,
10:18which just lets you select text or even images and have your phone read them out loud
10:23and describe them too.
10:24It took until today for everything on Android to be completely rolled out.
10:29One UI 9 also updated a ton of Samsung apps with new features and redesigns.
10:33Some changes are bigger than others too, but they're all welcome.
10:36In the Mones and Routines app, the routines inside the Discover page now have descriptions
10:40of what each one actually does.
10:42So you're not just guessing anymore, trying to figure out what each routine does.
10:46Then the My Files app also got a bit of a visual refresh as well.
10:50I mean, the icons at the top are organized much better now,
10:52and several of the icons throughout the app have also been redesigned.
10:56Samsung also built-in support for viewing PDF and text files directly inside the My Files,
11:01so you won't always need a separate app to just open those files.
11:05And then for search, it also got a lot smarter too, so you can search inside files as well.
11:09So let's say you're searching for something like a dog.
11:12It'll bring up files that have dog in the name,
11:15or it'll also bring up PDFs or pictures that have the word dog inside of them as well.
11:21The Samsung Notes app also got a few minor upgrades.
11:23For example, there's a new editing tool that lets you add tape over any of your notes,
11:28kind of like whiting out whatever you just wrote.
11:30I mean, you can customize it too with different patterns.
11:33You can adjust the size, thickness, and more, but keep in mind that it only works with the S Pen.
11:39Plus, Samsung also updated the widgets inside the Notes app,
11:41so if you're using one of the list-style widgets, you'll now see a new button
11:45that lets you quickly create a new note without opening the app first.
11:49In the weather app, there are a few new things.
11:51For instance, the health card has been condensed to take up less space,
11:54and then some visual elements got redesigned too, like the wind and pressure cards.
11:59And there you have it, one UI 9 so far.
12:01Now just keep in mind that we're still in the first few beta stages of this update, so
12:05there will most likely be more features coming soon,
12:07and some of the ones I discussed in this video could also change or go away.
12:11Plus, I was really surprised by how well the update felt to use.
12:14It was pretty stable, and performance-wise, it was really great on my Galaxy S26 Ultra.
12:19I never really ran into any crazy bugs too.
12:21But that's not to say that you might not run into issues as well if you try to use it.

12:33and then you can scroll all the way down to the bottom where you can see a beta program card
12:37to enroll.
12:38Or it could also be at the top of the banner as well, that way you could receive the update.
