Since they imploded in 1970 with only one scratchy recording to their name, the Unknown Blues have remained a fascinating footnote in Kiwi music history. Together with their equally infamous biker mates the Antarctic Angels, the band made such an impact in New Zealand's conservative deep south they continued to be talked about more than four decades later. Then in 2011 the complete Unknown Blues lineup reformed for the very first time.

00:29Rolling Stones went to Invercargill in 1965 and got pelted with tomatoes. If they were too extreme for Invercargill audiences,
00:36quite knows what they thought about the unknown blues. Local lads gone bad.
00:42The underdogs had a bit of a rip, but the unknown blues left everybody stationary.
00:52We were the wildest in them days. People would see us coming and they'd cross the road mate.

01:29If we'd been in Auckland or Melbourne or New York, I don't know if we would have done what we'd
01:34done and got away with it.
01:36What they wanted was a reaction from their audience and they sure got it.
01:42They left their mark in Invercargill. They're probably still recovering from it, you know? Invercargill others.
