00:39out there we're gonna get the mark vandermeer's top 10 classic rock list and i won't i want luke
00:45moral to be totally honest with this man don't don't don't punk out mark vandermeer yeah i want
00:51you to be critical if you need to be and we're gonna get to that in a minute but just
00:56real quick
00:56um i got a uh off the top shout out i just want to give a shout out and prayers
01:01up to robin jones
01:02caldwell uh i ran across her post on facebook and she's going through a bout with cancer and she said
01:10you know just you know pray for her and all that stuff so i just want to give her the
01:14in the loop
01:15prayers up and salute and all that stuff and appreciate her for you know being awesome so just
01:22just a quick little prayers up but um love you yeah yeah so 1997 it's a lot that happened in
01:301997
01:31and uh i'm gonna try to relate this to a local business that that didn't do something since 1997
01:39okay so um biggie smalls he died in 1997 you got the spice girls who were blazing hot and became
01:47just a
01:48a worldwide sensation can i ask 97 are y'all surprised that the spice girls are still as
01:54relevant as they are considering this is 97 i'm surprised yeah like at first i'm because when you
02:00think of somebody else in 1997 it's like i they probably performing in a little toyota center and all
02:05that stuff they will still sell out a uh i think they could probably sell out a stadium if they
02:11wanted to man to this day yeah and that's shocking and i'm not saying that just because it's the spice
02:16girls like i kind of do this with nsync and backstreet boys that same degree like i and maybe it's
02:20just
02:20the nostalgia we were talking about that earlier i think it is but it's like they were big they were
02:24big but also i don't know that they were like substantial artists if that makes sense and maybe that
02:29sounds too pretentious but i think you know what i mean yeah yeah no i'm surprised i'm surprised by all
02:33their relevance still and people go and go to their concerts and buy tickets i don't get it yeah
02:38yeah um the titanic uh released their movie this was towards december um in 1997 michael jordan
02:45won his fifth nba championship he was only at number five didn't even get the number six yet
02:51tiger woods won his masters at 21 years old was 97 that was 97 mike tyson bit off holy phil's
03:00ear
03:01in 1997 what a year barry sanders rushed for um over 2 000 yards in 1997 and princess diana she
03:10died
03:11in a car accident in 1997 wow so a lot happened in 1997 which leads to this local business and
03:18the last
03:19time they did something in 1997 here is kprc2 with the story 1997 was the year the hit show
03:27south park debuted the movie titanic hit the big screen that is the same year that one houston business
03:34last paid their water bill why can someone go almost 20 years without paying a bill with no real
03:42attempts to try and collect i couldn't possibly explain it but that ends today actually beginning
03:49september 8th the city will begin water shutoffs for customers who are 90 days or more past due on
03:55their water bills and who owe more than 500 bucks there are some 15 000 customers in that category
04:01and if you add up everything they owe you're looking at 30 million dollars i don't think any reasonable
04:07person in the city would say that we should be giving away water for free and if someone who pays
04:11their bill finds out that someone is not paying their bill and is receiving that water there's
04:16certainly issues of fairness and equity we want to make sure that everyone is in the same situation the
04:21same boat and the city needs money so you're probably still wondering about that business
04:25that hasn't paid a water bill since 1997 well the city didn't tell us the name of the business but
04:30they say they're still investigating if possibly the ownership changed records were lost or what but if
04:37they collected all that was owed from that one business that's three and a half million dollars
04:45they've had water bill since 1997 man i wish they would say who it was i'm so fascinated who this
04:52was but props to them for going 30 years without paying the water bill and nobody at the company
04:57uh noticing or realizing like wait a minute this one account hasn't paid for three decades yeah i i just
05:02thought of is there any way in hell a single residence doesn't pay the water bill for 30 years and
05:09keeps
05:09the water on is there any way in hell i think the max i know back in the day the
05:13max was like maybe
05:14you might have like five to seven years where you because i know it went through that with a lot
05:20of
05:21landlords who decide not to pay it and then all of a sudden the water is off in the tenants
05:25home
05:26and they like what's going on i just got this bill for you know three grand or something and um
05:32they ain't been paying the water bill for years but man 30 years that's wild that yeah how how early
05:41into this did the company did the actual uh tenants realize that hey they're not charging us right
05:47because i i feel like they it can't have been more than like four months they were like man we
05:53ain't paid that water bill and they're like wait hold on we haven't paid that water bill
05:58don't pay it next month yeah and they just kept going for 30 years i guarantee you they were
06:03probably if it's still the same company in that building i'll guarantee you they was probably like
06:08you know what i ain't gonna say nothing today say something absolutely why would you yeah and i'm
06:13curious what their excuse is going to be because the woman reporter there did offer some things of
06:18of like reasons why this occurred because if i'm that company i'm not sorry i know i owe you but
06:23like you're not going to hit me now with a 30 year water bill so i'm going to try to
06:28come up with
06:28some sort of excuse i'm going to throw my wife under the bus and say it's her fault yeah that's
06:34a throwback that's a callback 30 million dollars is what she said yeah in in in so that's a million
06:39dollars of year of water in total right of all the accounts that are unpaid i think i just unpaid
06:45water bills in the city oh i thought they meant by this i was like that no how do you
06:4930 million
06:50dollars of water no i think this place is on the hook for like what did they say two million
06:54three was it somewhere around there yeah yeah only about one two million send them to collection
07:00that's all yeah exactly yeah i'm sure you'll get the money at that point i would just move
07:05and try to like i'm not paying yeah try to start over instead of having to pay you three million
07:10dollars
07:11in water bills yeah that's that kind of remind me remember back in the day where the phone bills
07:16used to try to charge you like eight hundred dollars like oh you didn't you didn't went over
07:21your minute so you now you owe eight hundred dollars i'm not paying this yeah like why would i pay
07:25i just
07:26going to another phone bill i mean to another phone company like there's no way in hell i'm paying that
07:30yeah no absolutely yeah but uh in the spirit of that uh here's a throwback from a former cleveland
07:37councilman by the name of george l forbes uh this was i want to say 42 years ago when a
07:44reporter
07:44called up with him and asked about the unpaid water bill but it says here you haven't paid your
07:49bill in a year that's what you said i'm not aware of that no big problem you know city ain't
07:54gonna go
07:54back a little what don't you think it's a bad example to say no i do not i don't have
07:57money you
07:58don't have money to pay a 400 dollar water bill i do not have the money okay did you hear
08:03me on the
08:04time of austerity don't you think it said how much you owe 440 dollars i do not have the money
08:09you say
08:10you don't have money to pay your bill did you hear me but your water your water's still on though
08:14isn't it yeah well should i think your water should be turned off if you're not paying no it should
08:19not
08:19be so he ended up walking into like a little meet a board room or something like that i guarantee
08:26you
08:26like five seconds later he came back out to this reporter and this is how it went you know one
08:33of these
08:34days you're gonna come on me and i'm gonna kick your ass oh okay a lot of days you're gonna
08:39corner
08:39me and i'm gonna kick your ass well don't you think that's a legitimate question church you're not
08:43that i gave you the only wait a minute i gave you an legitimate answer you asked me about my
08:49water bill
08:50what did i tell you so you didn't have the money but your water's still on isn't it now that
08:55was my
08:55answer to you but i don't think everybody has that luxury of uh having their water tough okay now one
09:00of
09:00these days you're gonna corner me and i'm gonna kick your ass now keep keep with me okay now i'm
09:06telling you keep with me you're not the only one george i'm not talking about anybody else but you
09:09now i gave you a damn answer and i asked you a follow-up question i gave you a answer
09:15now what
09:16these days i'm gonna kick your ass and it might be this damn one now you got your answer now
09:21get
09:21out of my damn face i mean at some point just do it yeah one of these days no go
09:28ahead and do it
09:29if you if you're really about it because i feel like you should have you should he should have had
09:34better answers right in that moment you know you was wiling yeah you knew you were out of line and
09:40so bleep either have better i don't know better bad answers right or better lies yeah or actually do it
09:49or walk away this is why are you still talking into this microphone the thing is he did walk away
09:54and then i guess he has some more on his mind he's like let me go back out here you
09:57know what
09:58i want to kick your ass i love it i like that exchange and good on the reporter too not
10:04you know not
10:04backing down uh i also love what he said his very first thing was uh george says something of like
10:11that's what you said something something along those lines i love that as a as an answer yeah
10:15yeah so uh pay your water bills i guess that's all i got yeah all right i'll get y'all
10:22out of here on
10:22this is the mixtape presented by sheriff injury lawyers mark vandermeer's top 10 classic rock list
10:29and uh i want luke to be the judge of this one so all right luke here we go so
10:34this list is he um
10:36mark gave me i guess a couple disclaimers this is classic rock only no 90s no softer rock like the
10:43eagles or fleetwood mac oh okay and no beatles they stopped playing live in 66 they never played real
10:51two to three hour shows i didn't know that that's that's a little fun fact for me i i did
10:57not know
10:58that but here is his list i don't know if this is in order maybe this is in order you
11:03got the rolling
11:04stones les zeppelin the who pink floyd deep purple queen aerosmith judo uh toll jethro toll yeah
11:15uh ac dc and kiss react it's a good list i i like the way he started i've always said
11:26look i do count the beatles and i know i've had this debate even with lopez he says they're pop
11:30it's not classic rock they can't be on the list yada yada yada i do count the beatles for classic
11:35rock and even the lack of concerts i wouldn't consider for talking greatest rock bands it's to
11:41me it's about the music you produce so i would include the beatles but where i'm going with this
11:45is i've always said it's the beatles rolling stones led zeppelin is the top three i always alternate
11:52the rolling stones and led zeppelin i don't know and then i finish it out with the who and pink
11:56floyd
11:56which is what he had so i do agree with his the top half of his list would be essentially
12:02the same as
12:03mine i think that's really good then you get to the back half and i don't have any huge debates
12:07i mean
12:07we did this previously with uh with ben gary who put a few questionable ones in his top 10 and
12:13he
12:13had like two different he had ozzy osbourne and he had black sabbath that seems redundant uh i don't
12:18have as many uh complaints with this list i think all of these are fair kiss acdc aerosmith jethro toll
12:25i think they can all be deserving of a top 10 i wish i had some strong opinions for you
12:30but actually
12:31it's it's a pretty solid top 10 list i'm sure we're gonna get a bunch of texts of bands he
12:35missed and
12:35that will also help spark my memory but nobody on this list i think is like a real absurd band
12:42to
12:42include jethro toll might be a bit of a uh like a not a hot take a bit of a
12:48warm take maybe but uh
12:50but jethro toll they they had their own unique sound with the flute in a rock band and they have
12:55a very big fan base and obviously aqua lung they had some big hits so so i'm okay with it
13:00yeah so a
13:00couple things real quick so uh mark ashley uh responded to this list and said these are the
13:06founding fathers of classic rock he said zeppelin is my all-time favorite but the stones are the
13:12greatest rock and road band in history so salute the more vandermeer man i will say vandy did come
13:20in with a lot of caveats on the front side yes that's true he made it really and that's what
13:25the
13:25caveats are for to try and make it really difficult to undercut it but i'm like what am i supposed
13:30to do
13:30caveats on the front side mark yeah i will say that i think my biggest hot take on this one
13:35is
13:36you gotta have the beatles on there man they're they're a rock and roll group man yeah that's what
13:40i say yeah because like me personally i like um i like ccr that was the question that i was
13:46thinking
13:46they was only around for like a few years they wouldn't run that long and the text line thought
13:51of as well they said no ccr love and then guns and roses should be on the list luke i
13:55don't count
13:56guns and roses huh well he well he said no 90s for this list vandermeer said no 90s i put
14:02guns
14:02and roses also why can't there be 90s is that because he took off the soft rock like the eagles
14:07and fleetwood mac i would include the e i would include both and they should be one of those that
14:12absolutely comes into play yeah they should both be top 10 both those bands should be top 10 uh over
14:17any of the ones in the top half or the bottom half of his list rather guns and roses i
14:21know they were
14:21before grunge and they were the 80s but i always put them with grunge i would put them in the
14:28same
14:28category as pearl jam and nirvana and those sort of bands you can disagree like metallica is another
14:34one i wouldn't put classic rock oh yeah um guns and roses i put more in that realm in that
14:39world than
14:40i would compare them to aerosmith and the who and the beatles now we're doing now we're doing
14:46sorting conversation as opposed to the list this is anyways i do think we need to have some type of
14:51conversation about sorting these out there see and that's that's where you really get to the
14:55arguments is like when we start trying to sort out the genres in a way that is appealing to everyone
15:00we don't have time for all of them
