00:02London's Notting Hill Carnival is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year with three days
00:07of revelry fueled by drummers, dancers and colorful costumes. The three-day event began
00:13with a steel band competition on Saturday followed by two more days of street parties
00:18continuing into Monday. Rooted in Caribbean culture, the carnival was first held in West
00:23London in 1966. Those involved in the event say its legacy is not just about the music,
00:31costumes and spectacle but the history it continues to teach. It's still important to keep up the
00:36tradition because it allows the younger generation who are coming into it now to go back and learn
00:42about the roots and it gives the individual significance and an understanding of what was
00:50before. And I think it is the time, everyone is just the same, there's no differences in color or race

00:57anything. Everyone is here for the purposes of having a good time, enjoying music, do some dancing and
01:04basically have a good time. What began as a celebration of Caribbean identity has grown
01:11into one of the world's largest street festivals attracting huge crowds to West London each year.
