A suspected Chinese spy drone incident at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico has raised fresh questions about U.S. military security and foreign surveillance.

According to CNN reporting, a quadcopter repeatedly entered restricted airspace around the sensitive U.S. missile testing facility in spring 2025. U.S. authorities tracked the drone for several days before reportedly using electronic warfare technology to force it to land.

The incident also involved Chinese nationals who were reportedly monitored near the missile range. U.S. officials believed the individuals were connected to the drone operation and had possible links to Chinese intelligence. China has denied the allegations, calling them “baseless speculation.”

The incident comes after another unidentified drone was spotted over White Sands in 2024, highlighting growing concerns over drone incursions around sensitive U.S. military installations.

Watch the video for the full details of the White Sands drone incident, the alleged Chinese surveillance operation, the U.S. response and what it could mean for American military security.

00:22A mysterious drone flies deep into restricted U.S. airspace.
00:28Authorities watch it, they track it, and instead of immediately bringing it down, American
00:34officials decide to set a trap.
00:37The location?
00:39White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, one of the most sensitive U.S. military testing
00:45facilities where America tests missiles, weapons, and advanced defense systems.
00:51According to CNN reporting, this was not the first time a suspicious quadcopter had appeared
00:58over the facility.
01:00Months earlier, in late 2024, another drone was spotted flying a similar reconnaissance-style
01:06pattern over the range.
01:08U.S. Customs and Border Protection chased that drone for roughly 35 miles, but the pursuit
01:15ended when it crossed into Mexican airspace.
01:18The operators were never identified.
01:20Then, in spring 2025, it happened again.
01:25A quadcopter repeatedly entered and exited restricted airspace around White Sands.
01:31And this time, U.S. authorities were ready.
01:35For nearly five days, amid dust storms and difficult weather conditions, a multi-agency task force
01:42monitored the drone.
01:43The operation reportedly brought together the U.S. Army, FBI, Department of Homeland Security,
01:51and even the Pentagon office responsible for investigating unidentified anomalous phenomena.
01:58Instead of simply chasing the drone away, officials studied its movements and tried to identify
02:04whoever was controlling it.
02:05Then came the takedown.
02:08Using electronic warfare technology, U.S. forces reportedly disrupted the drone and forced
02:14it to land inside a parking lot on the military base.
02:18Personnel immediately checked the aircraft to make sure it was not carrying explosives.
02:24But the bigger mystery was on the ground.
02:26Authorities were simultaneously monitoring a rented Mercedes RV parked near the missile range.
02:33Inside were Chinese nationals.
02:36According to officials cited by CNN, two individuals had flown into New York, rented the RV,
02:43and driven across the United States to Las Vegas.
02:46There, they allegedly picked up a third person before heading directly toward White Sands.
02:53U.S. officials determined that the group was operating the drone.
02:57And then investigators found another potential connection.
03:01A separate Chinese woman had reportedly arrived in Texas by cruise ship, rented a car,
03:07and driven toward White Sands National Park, which sits next to the missile range.
03:12She allegedly remained inside the park after it had closed.
03:17Investigators later discovered identifying information inside the RV that linked her to the group.
03:23The individuals were detained, with the RV group handed over to federal authorities.
03:28But what happened afterward remains unclear.
03:32There have been no widely reported public details of specific espionage charges or prosecutions connected to this case.
03:39And China has strongly rejected the allegations.
03:42A Chinese embassy spokesperson called the accusations baseless speculation and denied that the incident demonstrated Chinese espionage.
03:52Still, the case has raised a major question inside the United States.
03:57How vulnerable are America's most sensitive military facilities to cheap commercial drones?
04:04Because White Sands is not an isolated example.
04:08U.S. officials have been dealing with a growing number of drone incursions around military and restricted sites.
04:14Some may involve hobbyists or tourists.
04:18Others are treated as potential intelligence-gathering operations.
04:22And identifying who is really behind these flights can be extremely difficult.
04:26The White Sands operation may have ended with the drone on the ground, but it has exposed a much bigger
04:33battlefield.
04:34One where sophisticated military technology is increasingly being challenged by small, inexpensive aircraft that can cross restricted airspace before authorities
04:45even know who is controlling them.
04:48And for Washington, the fear is clear.
04:51The next drone may not simply be watching.
