00:00Adam Peters talking last night. Yesterday, 4 o'clock is more accurate, I guess.
00:04And we hear from Dan Quinn all the time, so it's a little different when you hear from the general
00:09manager,
00:09the guy that kind of puts it all together. And I want to play 18, Jeffrey, please.
00:14Peters, he was asked by Scott Abraham about fans' concerns considering how poorly the end of the regular season,
00:22I'm sorry, the end of the preseason, definitely not the regular season,
00:26considering how poorly the end of the preseason went.
00:29Hey, Pete, this one's for you. Just simply judging by the tenor and the tone from the fan base over
00:33the past week,
00:34there's certainly some worry there. My question to you is, what gives you hope that, you know what, everything's going
00:41to be all right?
00:42Just basically with this team, the structure going forward.
00:46Yeah, I mean, I have a ton of confidence in this team. I have a ton of confidence in the
00:50coaching staff,
00:51and DQ alluded to it. We haven't done a whole lot, you know, in terms of showing what we're going
00:55to be doing.
00:56Bless you. Offensively and defensively, and there's been a lot of times where we haven't had our players out there,
01:03you know, whether it's been in the games or even at practice.
01:06So, you know, I look back to, you know, how we did against the Dolphins
01:11and just seeing when we had the full arsenal of players up front, offensively, defensively,
01:18to seeing what we're capable of.
01:20And very confident in that.
01:22Added, like DQ just talked about with Jaden, where he's at and what he's going to be and having him
01:28back.
01:29I think, you know, just the overall, you know, character of the men in that room
01:35and the coaching and level of coaching that we have, I'm very confident.
01:40And, you know, I think obviously your fans are passionate, and you love to have passionate fans,
01:48and that's great.
01:50But, you know, there's a lot of stuff that we're doing here that, you know, maybe they don't see,
01:55and there's a lot of things that I'm really excited to see in a couple of weeks.
01:58We couldn't be more thrilled than to start our season when we're starting it,
02:02and it's going to be a great challenge, and we're looking forward to it.
02:07So I have a lot of thoughts here.
02:08Okay.
02:09One, I like Peter's puffing his chest a little bit.
02:12I think there's space for that in sports and pro football.
02:17He's confident in the team they put together.
02:19Now, there were two factors.
02:21He points to the Miami joint practice, which Washington looked damn good.
02:26Defensively, they looked like beasts.
02:28The pass game looked fantastic.
02:29They didn't run the ball all that well in those joint practices.
02:32But, like, overall, if you were grading that out as a scrimmage or something,
02:35Washington was the better team.
02:37Dolphins also looked kind of terrible.
02:39So, you know, there's grains of salt involved.
02:42After Miami is really when the injuries started to pile up.
02:46I think the Tunsil injury, you cannot deny how big of an impact that has now
02:50and will have throughout the season because as more injuries pile up,
02:54it's going to be even less depth.
02:56Something happens at guard, if Tunsil's playing, they might be able to throw Coleman at it.
02:59Now you can't.
03:00Coleman's your tackle.
03:01The other part of this is their decision-making, which they have to own.
03:05They don't play anybody in the preseason.
03:07So how are fans supposed to know what you've got?
03:10Because you can run super vanilla stuff.
03:13David Blau doesn't have to go deep in his bag.
03:15Durante Jones doesn't have to call the double-A gap blitz.
03:17But you could play your starters.
03:19That's your decision.
03:20You know what I mean?
03:21The injuries, beyond everyone's control.
03:23But playing your starters and fans not being happy with the product that's out there,
03:27that's up to them.
03:28That's true.
03:29But you know what?
03:30I hear every fan, I hear every media person say they shouldn't play their starters.
03:34I'm good with that.
03:35They shouldn't play their starters, they shouldn't play their quarterback.
03:37But then when they don't play them, we want to judge them harshly
03:40because we're judging them as the starters were playing.
03:43The starters weren't playing.
03:45And the way I look at the whole deal is you're in a situation now where no matter
03:51what they do, the Tunsil thing, in my eyes, we can't mention him anymore.
03:55He's not here this year.
03:57He's gone.
03:57So you've got to worry about who's there now and start going through that.
04:01If we keep regurgitating Tunsil, Tunsil, Tunsil, Tunsil, Tunsil ain't playing no more.
04:05He brought it up.
04:06I understand.
04:07But it's like you keep asking the question about the injuries.
04:11Some injuries, people coming back, you worry about those because they're going to be coming back.
04:14Some of them, they're gone, so you've got to forget about them
04:16and think about the people that are going to be in that place.
04:18Right.
04:18For me, you've got Brandon Coleman out there now.
04:22Now, Adam is going to have to make some other moves to get this thing how they want it to
04:26be.
04:27Or some guys may just start the first.
04:29You know, I've heard guys discuss people over the last two to three years that haven't done much in my
04:34eyes,
04:35but we still fight for them.
04:38Because the thing about me, I'm tired of just because you're a draft pick, we've got to overly fight for
04:42you.
04:43I'm down looking for the guys that's going to kick this.
04:46I kept saying ownership.
04:48Ownership of what you're doing here.
04:50I'm ready to see who those guys are.
04:51And that normally happens when it really starts to count because at this point in the day,
04:56if you're not playing well now, they will cut you.
04:59In minicamp and preseason and all that stuff, they keep you around because they need bodies.
05:04Now, if you're not helping the team flourish, they're going to get rid of you.
05:07And this is when you're going to find out how good they really are.
05:11No team starts off and ends with the same starters every year.
05:15Agree with that.
05:16Specifically to the point you made about draft picks, I don't believe in his three seasons here.
05:20Maybe Dominique Hampton was waived, who was a six-rounder three years ago now.
05:26The draft picks tend to get benefit of the doubt.
05:28Like if you look at Luke McCaffrey versus Van Jefferson.
05:31They get benefit of the doubt from everybody, though.
05:33From the media, from the fans, everybody.
05:37I'm tired of it.
05:38Listen, if you can play, you can play.
05:39If you can't buy.
05:40That's the way I feel about the whole situation.
05:42Like do you think Robert Henry outplayed Catron Allen in preseason?
05:47I think Robert Henry might have outplayed him in the situation we were looking at.
05:52But what they were looking for, no.
05:53Did the fumbles not freak you out?
05:55The fumble, it freaks me out because.
05:57I mean, he put two balls on the ground.
05:59He put two on the ground.
06:00Well, he had a muff and then he had the fumble where he turned back.
06:04He got learned.
06:05In the NFL, just run straight.
06:08Do what you did at Penn State.
06:09Run straight.
06:10Keep two hands on the ball.
06:12Because when you turn around and slow down, they're going for the ball.
06:14The whole thing about everybody in the NFL, college guys, they tackle the football in the league.
06:20You get just tackled in college.
06:22And he's going to have to learn that.
06:23But Robert had put the ball on the ground.
06:27On the kickoff, too.
06:27And I think his biggest issue is being a little smaller and pass pro.
06:32I thought he did well in the first game.
06:34I think as the preseason went on, he didn't do as well.
06:37I think Allen is also a different runner than what they have in Bill and White.
06:42And Henry isn't.
06:44Like, Allen, if it goes well, gives you something you don't currently have in the building.
06:51Cahoe missed a lot of tackles in Baltimore.
06:53But I would almost argue over the body of work.
06:56He made more.
06:57The Cahoe-Medrano debate.
06:59Cahoe made more plays and more tackles than Medrano.
07:02I think I would have kept Cahoe.
07:02Yeah, but like I said, he's back on practice squad.
07:06I guarantee he's going to play some games this year.
07:08Right.
07:09Because I think as a special teams player, he's better as well.
07:14How much of what Adam Peters said there in,
07:18we haven't shown anything, we're really confident.
07:21Like, there's part of me that's, what the hell else is he supposed to say?
07:25Yeah.
07:25But whether that confidence is real or projected, how much of it do you buy?
07:31The thing about them not showing a lot, I am really into that because what I saw
07:36was a lot of, what do you call them, stuff, Kingsbury.
07:41I saw a lot of his stuff.
07:44And I, like, because John kept asking in the booth, like, hey, man,
07:48they talk about they're going to be under the center more often.
07:50Why aren't they under the center more often?
07:52I said, I think they're trying to not let people see a lot of stuff.
07:55And because they were in shotgun and they ran a ton of what Cliff was running,
07:59like, throughout this whole preseason.
08:00And I'm like, okay, well, the other people now are starting to prepare for what they saw last year
08:04because they think that's what it's going to be.
08:06So I understand that part.
08:08Now, when I look at the defense, when you saw them do some semblance of what we thought
08:12Minnesota was doing, they had great success at it.
08:15And then all of a sudden they backed off of that and started just lining people up
08:20and playing, you know.
08:22And I think ultimately when we played against Baltimore, we had our threes,
08:26they had their twos.
08:27We had our fours, they had their threes.
08:28That's how it worked.
08:29And the way that Baltimore goes at it, they're going to have a little advantage over you.
08:33And we lost those one-on-one battles.
08:35I think when you start lining up and doing all the stuff defensively,
08:39it's going to confuse the hell out of some people.
08:41But offensively, I still, I'm with everybody about the,
08:44every time you ask me about offense, defense,
08:47I don't care less about the receiver and the running back.
08:49I want to know about what the offensive line, defensive line are going to do.
08:52And still, if those two entities can get to a better than average,
08:57I think they can have a successful season.
08:59My reaction to the Ravens game I think was pretty similar to what you said earlier.
09:04Like losing the preseason is largely irrelevant.
09:07Getting your ass kicked like that.
09:09And for the coach, in consecutive preseason weeks, the Detroit game,
09:14he said disarray.
09:15The Ravens game, he said flat.
09:17Like that is problematic to me.
09:19Yeah, they were too damn flat.
09:22And I don't understand it whatsoever.
09:23Whether it's your fours, your fives, your sixes.
09:26In that situation, you can't be flat.
09:28Especially when it's like this is the last game you get to show somebody something
09:32before you're packing a bag or staying around.
09:36Right.
09:36Which is pretty darn remarkable.
09:38I do think, you know, for Washington, for Adam Peters, I'd like to open the phones.
09:43800-636-1067.
09:46800-636-1067.
09:48Adam Peters says he's confident.
09:50Are you confident?
09:51And I think if you can, I go through this process every year with the NFL draft, right?
09:58That college football season ends, and then there's four months of nonsense,
10:02and then there's the NFL draft.
10:03And when we get to mid-April, I try to tell myself, remember what you watched in college football.
10:09And all the hullabaloo in between largely becomes irrelevant.
10:13And does anybody remember how we felt watching this team the first couple weeks?
10:18Yeah.
10:18It was a pretty exciting time.
10:20Yeah.
10:21Like, Jaden was dotting dudes up.
10:22And I do want to talk about Odafoe, because he looked really good early,
10:26and now we haven't seen him, and the update doesn't hardly seem reassuring on when he's available.
10:33So that is a real situation, that Owe and Chason are not a part of this thing as right now.
10:40They still have, I don't know, are we still 10 days out, probably?
10:45We are still 12 days out.
10:47Yeah, okay.
10:48So, like, you do have some time there.
10:49But I think there was a time where this squad was like, yo, they might have something.
10:56Yeah, yeah.
10:56Then, injuries pile up.
10:58The Allegretti situation continues.
11:00The backup at center was proven to be inadequate throughout camp.
11:06That created significant holes, because the interior of the offensive line was just getting blown up.
11:11You get injuries on the other side of the football as well.
11:14So, like, things started to stack up, as they do in training camp.
11:18Yeah.
11:18Like, that happens where you start to lose people.
11:21But now we're at the end of this.
11:23Now they've got the 53.
11:24Now they're getting ready for Philly.
11:25And I think, on some level, the GM is confident.
11:31The coach is going to tell you he's confident.
11:33Some of it, what else can they say?
11:34You want them to get up there and be like, I don't know, man, these guys might suck.
11:37Like, they're not going to say that.
11:38Because if you say that, then you're questioning yourself.
11:41Right.
11:41It's a self-preservation league, always.
11:44Yeah.
11:46But can fans get back to a confident place?
11:49800-636-1067.
11:53I loved AP at the end.
11:56He's like, we know where we open the season.
11:57We're really excited to go up there and play.
11:59Like, at some point, this is pro football.
12:02Do the Sam Cassell dance.
12:04Let them know that we're ready.
12:06We're coming.
12:07Oh, yeah.
12:07You already put it down, the gauntlet.
12:13Dude, my word doesn't really matter as much as theirs.
12:15Yeah, but your word ignites stuff.
12:17You know how many times they play that in Philly now?
12:19I think they're going to win.
12:21Yeah.
12:22I think they're going to go up there and win.
12:23I think this Eagles – now, defensively, Philly's a beast.
12:28I don't deny that.
12:29Yeah, yeah.
12:29But I think the Eagles offense is not going to know what hit them with this
12:34commander's defense.
12:34It's going to look very, very different.
12:36Now, the folks at Vegas would suggest I'm crazy because the sharp money,
12:40so they say – now, it's very early.
12:42We'll have to check this as it gets closer.
12:44It's on Philly laying the points.
12:46And you would think that.
12:48Yeah.
12:48At this point, yeah.
12:49You certainly would.
12:50It's on Philly laying the points.
12:50It's on Philly laying the points.
