00:22The United States has launched a fresh wave of strikes against Iran.
00:27U.S. Central Command says American forces began striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,
00:35or IRGC, targets inside Iran at noon Eastern Time on September 1.
00:42The announcement marks another major escalation in the rapidly intensifying U.S.-Iran conflict.
00:50CENTCOM says the strikes came after what it described as recent attempted attacks by the IRGC
00:56against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and against American service members deployed across the region.
01:05But in its initial statement, CENTCOM did not reveal exactly how many strikes were carried out or identify the specific
01:13targets.
01:14The Pentagon has also not immediately provided a full assessment of the damage.
01:20Meanwhile, Iranian state media and open-source reports have described explosions at several locations in southern and southeastern Iran.
01:29Reports have mentioned areas including Keshm Island, Bendar Abbas, and Shabahar, as well as locations near the Strait of Hormuz.
01:39Those reports are still developing and have not all been independently verified.
01:44The latest strikes come just days after another dramatic escalation.
01:50On August 30, U.S. forces struck Iranian rocket launchers on Larik Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
01:58Washington said the launchers represented an imminent threat because Iranian forces were preparing to deploy rockets and sea mines into
02:07the strategically critical waterway.
02:08Iran reported casualties among IRGC Navy personnel following that strike.
02:16Tehran then responded.
02:18Iran launched ballistic missiles toward American military positions in Jordan.
02:23Jordanian air defenses reportedly intercepted the incoming missiles, while U.S. officials said the attacks caused little or no damage
02:32to American forces.
02:33Iran, however, claimed that some of its missiles struck military infrastructure.
02:39The exchange shattered roughly a month-long lull in direct U.S.-Iran military action.
02:45And now, Washington has launched another strike.
02:49President Donald Trump had already warned that the United States would respond forcefully following Iran's attacks.
02:56Trump said the response would be hard, while also describing the previous Iranian attack as limited.
03:03He has repeatedly claimed that American military operations have severely damaged Iran's military capabilities.
03:11But Tehran is sending a very different message.
03:15Iranian officials have warned that any American aggression will be answered.
03:20The Strait of Hormuz remains at the center of the confrontation.
03:24The waterway is one of the world's most important energy routes, carrying a huge share of global oil shipments.
03:32Any serious disruption could send oil prices higher and create new pressure on the global economy.
03:39Washington says its military actions are aimed at protecting American personnel and keeping commercial shipping safe.
03:46Iran has accused the United States of escalating the conflict and has warned that attempts to pressure Tehran will face

03:56And there is another complication.
03:58Even as military strikes resume, diplomatic efforts have not completely disappeared.
04:04Iranian officials have referenced previous ceasefire commitments and called for Washington to return to its obligations.
04:11That means the conflict is now unfolding on two tracks at once, military escalation on the ground and diplomatic maneuvering
04:20behind the scenes.
04:22But for now, the missiles are flying again.
04:24The U.S. says it is striking IRGC targets inside Iran.
04:30Iran is warning of retaliation.
04:32The Strait of Hormuz remains under intense pressure.
04:36And after months of fighting, the biggest question is becoming even more urgent.
