The Tamil Nadu Assembly has passed a resolution seeking greater use of Tamil as the principal language in the Madras High Court. The move triggered a political faceoff between the DMK and the TVK over claiming credit for the initiative. While the DMK supported the resolution, calling the demand its brainchild and highlighting Karunanidhi's efforts in securing classical language status for Tamil, the TVK maintained that its resolution is different and should not be claimed as anyone's child. The AIADMK also extended support to the resolution, which urges the Centre to facilitate the use of Tamil in the court.

01:48And there you heard how the resolution was moved by Vijay
01:54in the Tamil Nadu assembly, but the fight primarily over who should claim credit
01:59because the DMK is saying that that is the very resolution that they pushed.
02:03However, the TVK is saying that the earlier resolution of what the DMK had proposed
02:07is very different from what the TVK has proposed.
02:10Well, both on the same lines of making Tamil the official language
02:15and gaining that status and that is something that is being supported
02:18by the other parties in Tamil Nadu as well.
02:21But here the fight has now become about who should get credit on this.

02:29seeking greater use of Tamil in the Madras High Court.

02:35with a rich heritage and culture and should be made the principal language
02:38of the Madras High Court.
02:40He also urged the centre to facilitate the use of Tamil,
02:43saying greater use of Tamil in the Madras High Court is a must.

03:29Anika Keshav to join us shortly to take us through the details
03:33of all that transpired in the Tamil Nadu assembly,
03:36where one thing is very clear, all the parties are on the same page
03:40as far as the push for Tamil language is concerned,
03:43and now also to make it the official language in the Madras High Court.
03:47However, it is now a fight between the DMK and the TVK
03:51to who should gain credit, because the DMK is saying
03:54that they have always spearheaded this very move from the start,
03:58but TVK is saying that the DMK's resolution was very different
04:02from what the TVK has moved in the assembly,
04:05and while it has gained successful passage,
04:07but TVK is saying that for the DMK to claim
04:11that this particular aspect is quote-unquote their child
04:14would be a wrong narrative, is what the TVK says.
