00:02Catching the train is a routine experience for Lucy Carpenter and her guide dog Dottie.
00:07But earlier this week the pair were caught in a precarious situation when trying to board a service from Flinders
00:14Street.
00:14I was stuck between the doors and I couldn't move back onto the platform.
00:19I could only move forward into the train.
00:21And so I did that and the doors closed behind me on my dog's leash.
00:26Separated and stuck, Dottie was dragged along the platform as the train left the station.
00:31She was only freed thanks to a quick thinking commuter.
00:35She saved her life, there's no doubt about it. If nobody grabbed her the outcome would have been a lot
00:41worse.
00:42Inside, panicked passengers raised the emergency alarm, but the service continued on to Southern Cross Station.
00:49We were not able to stop the train or get into contact with the driver.
00:54Lucy was eventually helped off and later reunited with her dog, who was lucky to escape with just a few
01:00scratches.
01:01In a statement, Metro Trains has apologised and says it encourages passengers not to hold open or attempt to reopen
01:09closing train doors.
01:11Lucy has been an advocate for more accessible travel and was one of the first to ride the Metro Tunnel
01:16last year.
01:17Two days on from the incident, Lucy says she's still coming to terms with what unfolded and will take some
01:23time to rebuild her trust in using the train network.
01:27It is a reminder I guess that train safety is critical and they do need to look at what improvements
01:32can be made.
