00:02Wearing white and carrying placards, dozens of nurses took to the streets of Nairobi,
00:07protesting over what they say is the government's failure to address long-standing Labour grievances.
00:15For many years we have had, since 2017 up to now, push and pullback between SRC and Salary's
00:21International Commission and the Council of Governors. Today we are visiting SRC to tell
00:26us their story and to ask them to issue a letter of no objection on our CBA.
00:34With the strike having started late July, the president of Kenya's National Nurses'
00:38Association has voiced concerns about the impact on patients.
00:47The nurse's strike is today entering its 37th day. Public health facilities across the
00:58country are severely affected by this strike. Our concern, as fellow health professionals,
01:07is what this continuing delay is now costing patients and the healthcare system.
01:16The Secretary-General for Clinical Officers' Association insists action needs to be taken immediately.
01:22It is time now that we are seeing mortality is rising among our mothers and other citizens
01:30governments of this country that can be avoided. If we continue delaying, we will have many more
01:38losses. So our call is for the unions, for the SRC, national government, county government,
01:49and other stakeholders, kindly go to the table and have discussed and resolve this issue.
01:58Discussions between the union and Council of Governors have remained at an impasse, leading the nurses
02:03to intensify their protests alongside the strike.
