04:24This is highway 287 just to the west of Koontz, Texas. There's a submerged vehicle in the median that has
04:31been evacuated. This road is closed with a flash flood emergency continuing.
04:35Tropical storm Edouard dumped over 20 inches of rain across this area. Village Creek is expected to crest tonight over
04:4323 feet. That's going to lead to more catastrophic flooding, including down in the Honey Island area. All these flash
04:50floods are flowing to the bigger creeks and rivers, and that's going to continue to proliferate the water rise across
04:57this area. And we had up to six inch per hour rainfall rates in the western side of tropical storm
05:03Edouard from Beaumont up into this area.
05:05Overnight last night. That's because of warm rain processes uniform droplet size out here leading to those prolific rainfall rates
05:13and that led to life threatening flash flooding. This is a flash flood emergency continues for several hours and it
05:20is going to get worse tonight.
05:21Overnight. So do not let your guard out as these waters over Highway 287 subside. That's because the larger creeks
05:27and rivers are going to continue to rise. And this is the worst flooding in this area since 1969. This
05:33is Highway 287 just to the west of Koontz, Texas. Definitely turn around. Don't drown. Heed those evacuation orders as
05:41well.
05:41I imagine there's going to be a lot more water rescues tonight as the rivers and creeks continue to rise.
06:10Just outside of Koontz, Texas. Major flooding is happening. Highway 287 is closed just to the west of Koontz.
06:17And you can see that there are trees down, power lines over the road here. People without power. Major road
06:25closures out here. Homes getting inundated by flooding as well.
06:28And the flooding is only going to worsen tonight. Village Creek in this area near Honey Island is forecast to
06:35crest by midnight tonight at over 23 feet.
06:39That's even worse than the 1969 floods here. Some of the worst ever seen after 20 inches of rainfall from
06:46Tropical Storm Edouard.
06:47It seemed to intensify even after making landfall. The western eye wall became invigorated. A lot of lightning as well.
06:55And it dropped rainfall rates of up to 6 inches per hour. And all of this rain has to flow
07:00to the larger creeks and rivers.
07:03And that's going to contribute to major flood stage. And that's going to peak overnight tonight over 23 feet.
07:09But you can already see major flooding happening. Homes getting inundated. Evacuations happening as well across southeastern Texas.
07:16Flash flood emergency continues, including the Coons, Texas area, for many more hours.
