00:01Senor EU officials have issued a warning to the Serbian government over the funeral of war criminal Radko Mladic,
00:09with the bloc's enlargement chief saying that it will be a very important test in Belgrade's bid to join the
00:15European Union and its future path.
00:18European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Koss said that the handling of Mladic's funeral will be considered in relation to Belgrade's
00:26alignment with the EU's foreign and security policy,
00:29a key requisite for joining the bloc. Ireland, which currently holds the six-month EU presidency, is moving in the
00:37same direction.
00:38A state funeral would be unacceptable. As I understand it, there's not actually a state funeral taking place,
00:42but there may well be senior figures from government memorialising that man, so that's not acceptable.
00:50Mladic died on August the 27th, aged 84, in a UN detention facility in The Hague,
00:58where he was serving a lifetime sentence for crimes against humanity related to the Srebrenica massacre and the siege of
01:05Sarajevo.
01:06His body was returned to Serbia in a government plane on Thursday, with his coffin carried by soldiers
01:12and wrapped in a Serbian flag shown in images broadcasted on television.
