Brothers Andrew and Kevin are turning traditional home and cottage renovation projects on their head as they convert a century-old former lodge hall into the ultimate escape destination.

00:04I'm Andrew. I'm Kevin. Welcome to Bro Jacks.
00:08If you have to spend an hour to make the theatre work, no one's going to want to use it.
00:11Everything should just be there, you flick a switch, and you're either batting or you're watching a movie.
00:16We could hang the projector.
00:17We're trying to put it in a spot where it doesn't detract from either one of the things.
00:21I like the stage a little bit better.
00:23There's all kinds of ways that this thing could go wrong.
00:25We want our ball to come shooting out of our machine at the exact same time as the pitcher releases
00:29his ball.
00:30And it's going to need to be precise.
00:32We're not exactly known for precision.
00:34For this dual purpose project, we'll hang a projector screen from the ceiling and a retractable movie screen from the
00:39stage.
00:40Flanking our screen will be two custom marquee posters, backlit with LED strip lights.
00:45To our classic theatre seats, we'll add some new features like Kevin's flip seat popcorn maker and my date slash
00:50drink holder.
00:51The theatre space transforms to become a batting cage complete with a pitching machine built from an old treadmill.
00:57The ball feeder will be synced up to a looped pitching video of Kevin and I on the mound, giving
01:01the illusion of a real baseball batting experience.
01:03This dual purpose project will give us yet another way to play and relax in the house.
01:10We decided to come out today and get little movie shots for our pitching machine.
01:14At one point in time, we had decided to start a softball team, so we got uniforms and now I
01:18got cut.
01:19Okay, you got me?
01:20Gotcha.
01:21Turn out the camera.
01:22Kevin and I are trying to make this little video loop of each of us pitching.
01:26And we're going to project it onto our screen and then the ball's going to shoot through.
01:29And the batter will bat it and it'll hopefully look like we're throwing the ball.
01:32My arm feels pretty good. I've got a little bit of a back injury.
01:35It's tough throwing, but all we really want is the motion.
01:38Okay.
01:41I couldn't imagine I could pitch the ball much more than 40 or 50 miles an hour, if that.
01:46Best pitch you've thrown all day.
01:49We can't hit those balls either. It's definitely not in the big range.
01:54A nice slow speed, I think, is going to be the right answer.
01:58That's probably where Junior's going to come in. He was really rusty looking today.
02:02I've got this little tiny motor out of a disco ball. It's going to slowly spin this.
02:07It's going to allow a ball to go in and feed it through and fire it out.
02:10So the tough part is trying to line up the video and the actual throwing of the pitch.
02:15It needs to be on an interval that's really regular.
02:17Kevin's pretty nifty with all that software and the video editing suite.
02:21One, one thousand, two, one thousand.
02:23He's going to have to match whatever we come up with for machinery.
02:26About seven, seven or eight seconds.
02:28Cool.
02:28Can you work with that?
02:29Yep.
02:29So the idea is to make a Blu-ray.
02:31Right now I'm just editing the video over pitching.
02:33I'm putting it on a seven second loop to match the interval of Walker's hopper.
02:36And I've just got a few more minutes to make Andrew look good.
02:40Actually, it's about to take a long time.
02:42This week we added a batting cage sneeter to our family retreat.
02:45We finally got it all together.
02:46And right now we're just setting up the batting cage component on the stage.
02:49Ready?
02:49Yep.
02:50So Walker's hopper auto-loader feeds the ball at about the same rate as the looped video.
02:55Am I too soon or too late?
02:57Right now what we're doing is we're trying to time up the pitch with the machine.
03:00Get in.
03:01Thank God he got that one.
03:02Just a little slower, a little slower.
03:04And finally we got it tuned in and people started hitting the ball.
03:08Kevin did a really good job of the whole digital component of this thing.
03:12Check this out boys.
03:14You can select your player and then a video of that player will play on the screen.
03:17And it will seem to pitch a ball to us.
03:24It was pretty fun.
03:25It's almost like a video game.
03:27It's a bit strange to see yourself up on the screen like that.
03:30Swing.
03:31And a miss.
03:33Batting against me was very difficult.
03:36Oh Walker, I thought you played ball.
03:38Come on.
03:39The pitching machine worked great.
03:40I wasn't sure we were actually going to be able to do it.
03:42Luckily we had our geotechnical engineer here.
03:45Yes.
03:45Nice one.
03:46He kind of took it on as his project and he kind of made it work.
03:50Nice.
03:50fonctool.com
03:51Nice.
03:53Nice.
04:12And Billy,
